Yesterday was bittersweet as we saw Benjamin off to school. We’ve been fortunate to welcome several new volunteers recently, and with much happening here, it can be overwhelming for Benjamin. We don’t know anything about his past but we suspect it may not have been positive. One morning, in late 2022, we found Benjamin in one of our south paddocks. Someone must have dropped him over our fence during the night. He was afraid and malnourished. He’s physically very healthy now but has some issues that need to be addressed. Although Benjamin selected me to be his human, he has what I call mental cobwebs that need to be cleared away, and I’m not a dog trainer. It’s essential for him to understand the importance of respecting both people and other animals, while also keeping disruptions to the horses at a minimum.

We wanted to enroll Benjamin in training months ago but did not have the resources. I truly believe that some individuals come into our lives precisely when we need them.

Recently, during a tour with visitors, one of them recognized the difficulties we face with Benjamin and generously offered to fund his training! So, Benjamin is attending Canine Extreme, located here in Morriston. We were quite impressed with the instructor, Raul, who had worked with Shadow a few years back. They are only about ten minutes away! We are so truly blessed!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Aaleyah’s Big Announcement

Hey Everyone,

It’s me Aaleyah Belle, here to announce a new Match Game! Since the hay trailer is now completely empty, this Match Game could not have come at a more perfect time!

Please know that my friends and I would be forever grateful to anyone who wishes to help our little herd here at Beauty’s Haven. All donations up to $1000 will automatically be doubled ~ $1 becomes $2, $5 becomes $10 and so on, and no amount is ever too small. So please help if you can by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below. We currently have $625 in matching funds still available!

Thank you and Happy Weekend!

Love,
Aaleyah Belle

This morning, we trapped another sweet kitten who we have taken to the vet in order to be neutered. Now, we have at least, five more to go! And speaking of felines, yesterday, our sweet Pearle gave us quite the scare after disappearing for the entire day! Thankfully, she returned home late last evening, completely safe and sound.

Match Game Stalled

Our Match Game for farrier care appears to be at a standstill with just $75 still remaining in Matching Funds. JoJo has threatened to have a hissy fit as he did when he was a mere youngster while refusing to wear his fly mask. The images above show just what we are in for when our ‘Drama Prince’ gets mad! So, if anyone would like to help our little herd have ‘Happy Feet’ while doubling your donation at the same time, it would make JoJo and all of us so very happy indeed! The average cost per hooficure is $45, so just click on the ‘Donate’ button below if you would like to help while sparing us all a great deal of ‘JoJo’ drama at the same time!

Sponsors Needed

Mishka and Dancer benefit from Cosequin with MSM and they each need a container. Magic and Amira each need a container of EquiShield SA Powder to help with their ‘itches.’ If anyone would like to sponsor one of these most important supplements, please click on the ‘Donate’ button below.

Thank you in advance for your love and support!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Last Thursday, I took Gabe to stay with Rissie, a volunteer and friend, who adopted Waylon and Rio several months ago. Gabe has asthma, and while we have tried to keep him as comfortable as possible during the course of the summer months, it simply wasn’t enough. As Beauty’s Haven lies parallel to a lime rock road, lime rock dust constantly blows across the farm which greatly affects Gabe’s breathing and overall well-being. As there is little dust at Rissie’s farm, and with temperatures getting cooler, we are hoping and praying that Gabe’s asthma will improve and he regains some much-needed weight.

By Saturday, Gabe had settled nicely into his foster home. He’s so happy to be reunited with his old friends, Rio and Waylon. As Willow, Gabe’s best friend, was now alone, we immediately granted her access to Mishka and Valley Girl’s paddock. As the girls chose to remain together in one paddock, Mishka was now left alone in the paddock next to them. So, we took Walker down to meet Mishka and the boys, thankfully, hit it off! And, while it was a bit of a chess game, as you can see by clicking on the image above, everyone is happy and content!

Happy Feet Match Game

A wonderful friend and supporter has come forth and is offering a Match Game for Happy Feet whereby all donations up to $200 will be matched dollar for dollar! Since the average cost per hooficure is $45, we would be so very appreciative of any donation to assist with this need. So, if you wish to help our beloved little herd, while doubling your donation at the same time, just click on the ‘DONATE’ button below to contribute. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Theresa

WE DID IT! Thank you all so very much for sharing, donating, and caring! This will enable us to help get caught up on some farrier, veterinary, supplement, and related expenses!

We are truly grateful for your continued love and support which means so very much to all of us here at Beauty’s Haven.

Sincerely,
Theresa

JoJo Shenanigans

JoJo continues to be a source of amusement at Beauty’s Haven, each and every day. He remains the ‘King of the Golf Cart’ even though, much to his chagrin, he really is much too large to ride in it any longer! He does happily run along beside me, however, whenever I am out and about running errands in ‘his’ cart. JoJo is also a bit perplexed about no longer being allowed into the house as he once was when he was just a baby donkey.

Please click on JoJo’s image to view a brief video of his latest shenanigans! We are so blessed to have this special boy, together with his very best friend, Jazzy, in our lives.

With only three days remaining, we are down to the wire to meet our Match Game goal. We are hoping and praying that our wonderful little village of supporters will, once again, join together to make our dream a reality in order to help our beloved little herd.

As always, I have great faith and believe that we can do this! So, if you are able to do so, just click on the ‘Donate’ button and please remember that your donation will be doubled. If you cannot donate at this time, we truly understand, but you can still help by sharing this out amongst family and friends.

Thank you, all, for your continued love and support which means so very much to all of us here at Beauty’s Haven.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Match Game Nears End

We are getting there! We are much closer than yesterday with just $1,710 to go! We still have a few days remaining, but I do believe we can get this done with your help. You can contribute in a variety of ways via the ‘DONATE’ button below or via our Facebook fundraiser by clicking on the thermometer image.

Luigi could use some good thoughts and prayers. He’s fighting the very same upper respiratory infection from which Warrior is recovering. Warrior, in addition to asthma, also does not sweat so both boys are currently remaining in a barn stall with a Portacooler. Thankfully, both continue to have a hearty appetite and are drinking well. And some really good news – Cracker is sweating again, finally!

Tobias is, well, he’s like a kid who runs around all day talking and just having a grand old time. He’s absolutely hilarious! Gabe and Willow, on the other hand, simply love to calmly hang out together.

Lastly, there are only a few days remaining in our Match Game and we are quite concerned that the Match will not be met, so, please, if you are able to do so, help us reach our goal which would so greatly help feed and care for our beloved little herd. I know that they all would be forever grateful.

Thank you, all, for your continued love and support which means so very much to all of us here at Beauty’s Haven.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Match Game Update

Once we receive $6K in donations, the funds will be matched and morph into $12K. We still have $2,898 to go. Please share this out – we can do this, but only with your help. You can contribute in a variety of ways via the ‘DONATE’ button below or via our Facebook fundraiser by clicking on the thermometer image.

Another busy week and it’s already Thursday! The heat has been absolutely horrible! The sprinklers, misters and fans are constantly running. Warrior has allergies and does not sweat, so he is much more comfortable in the feed room with the AC. He oftentimes ‘asks’ us to join him and appears to be ever so grateful when we do so. Frodo, who also doesn’t sweat, prefers to remain in a stall with a swamp cooler during the day. Aaleyah Belle, Mo, and Walker can oftentimes, be found cooling down in the shade while Shadow and Benjamin come to life a bit more once the evening starts to cool down.

We have had some wonderful help during the week. Vickie spent the day washing thirty plus feed tubs with a great deal of help from Danni, who somehow, managed to get a nasty wound on the heel of his front foot, but thankfully, it is healing.

We did take time to celebrate the birthday of Kathy, a dear friend and supporter, as well as enjoy a visit by Abigail, who so enjoyed her time pampering Magic, who has truly come so far. We are so very proud of him.

Lastly, and thankfully, our two precious kittens have found a wonderful, loving home!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Match Game Update

We only have a couple of weeks remaining to meet the deadline for our Match Game! Once we receive $6K in donations, the funds will be matched and morph into $12K. We still have $3513 to go. Please share this out – we can do this, but only with your help. You can contribute via the ‘DONATE’ button or via our Facebook fundraiser by clicking on the thermometer image. Thank you, all, for your love and support.

As of last night, the thermometer has risen to $1104, so we are one-sixth of the way there! These funds are desperately needed and can help us recover from vet, farrier, facility, maintenance and equipment repairs, as well as other rescue related expenses. The weekly hay expense alone is $1000+. We also need assistance with ongoing expenses for the feral cat colony that lives on the farm.

And then this morning, we received a $300 donation towards the Match Game! A huge thank you to the generous donor! With this donation, we’re one step closer to reaching our goal. But we still need help! Each donation, regardless of the amount, greatly assists us in continuing our mission of making a difference in the life of each and every current and future member of the Beauty’s Haven herd.

Please join us on our journey! Donate now and be a part of something amazing. You can contribute via the ‘DONATE’ button below or via our Facebook fundraiser by clicking here. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small. We will be posting a thermometer on a nightly basis which will indicate the donations received across all platforms (BHFER Website, FaceBook and Instagram.)

Thank you, all, for your continuous generosity, love and support.

Sincerely,
Theresa

June is a very special month for us here at the rescue. Betsy Rose, a very special pony, came to us on June 14th, 2013 and JoJo and Jazzy’s birthdays are in June. We usually have a birthday party each year to honor Betsy Rose as well as to recognize JoJo and Jazzy’s birthday, but this year, we didn’t have time to put it together. For those who do not know Betsy Rose, and her story, there is a link on our website blog where you can learn about the day she arrived as well as the years we had with her. https://bhfer.org/pony-mare-update/

Betsy Rose was much more than that one special horse who comes into your life – she was a friend, teacher, comic, helper, healer and a heroine. Her story about overcoming incredible odds is one that should never be forgotten – she will never be forgotten.

Betsy, literally, helped many people to believe in themselves, to overcome, and to never give up. Sadly, we lost Betsy on December 22nd, 2017, due to her inability to swallow. With tears flowing, I held her tightly as she peacefully transitioned to Rainbow Bridge while I promised her that her legacy would forever live on.

Recently, one of our supporters notified us about a pony mare that desperately needed help. As she viewed the photo of the pony, she immediately thought of Betsy Rose. The pony had been run through multiple auctions as a no-sale and her next stop would have been Mexico where horses are slaughtered for human consumption . When I saw a photo of the mare, my heart skipped a few beats and memories of our Betsy Rose came flooding back. In honor of our Betsy, we quickly made the decision to rescue this precious little pony mare providing she was able to make the trip here. And with that, a new story begins.

We named her Dusti Rose. She arrived thin, her coat was unhealthy, her mane and tail unkept, and her feet had not been trimmed in months. Like Betsy, she has vision loss in her right eye. She had multiple auction stickers and/or glue from old stickers in her mane, on her backside, and in her tail.

Dusti’s personality is so sweet – she’s almost like a younger version of Betsy. She warms the heart and is good for the soul. And like Betsy Rose, she appreciates everything done for her.  She really enjoyed her first bath.

With all of the losses we have had over the past year or so, the toll it has taken on my heart has been great. I’m still trying to accept the loss of my heart horse, Beauty. There are times that the tears flow and nothing takes away the pain. But I do believe that, sometimes, God puts people, and animals, in our lives just when we need them (or they need us) the most. I think we needed little Dusti as much as she needed us. From the moment I met her, she had my heart. We have promised her that we will make all of her tomorrows everything her past should have been.

We have much going on here, 24/7, and it’s challenging to post updates which impacts our presence on social media which in turn, impacts donations. It’s a very stressful time. Grants are hard to come by, but we constantly apply.

However, we do have some good news!  A couple of dear friends and supporters have joined together to offer a $6000 Match Game!

All donations up to $6000 will be matched dollar for dollar… $5 will morph into $10, $50 will morph into $100, and so on.  These funds are desperately needed and can help us recover from vet, facility, maintenance and equipment repairs, as well as other expenses. We also need assistance with the ongoing expenses for the feral cat colony that lives on the farm.

If you would like to play the Match Game, you can contribute via the ‘Donate’ button below. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small. We will be posting a thermometer on our social media pages on a daily basis, and in upcoming emails, that will indicate the total amount of donations received across all platforms (BHFER website, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) as of that day/time. We would also ask that you please share this out to family and friends.

A very special “Thank You” to our dear friends who are making this Match Game possible.

We thank all of you for your continued generosity, love and support.

Sincerely,
Theresa

I can’t believe it is already that time of the year! While the past year has gone by incredibly fast, my birthday fundraiser this year will, once again, remain the same – to help the horses that comprise our beloved herd.

My Birthday Wishes…

  1. Raise $2500 to help the horses here at the rescue that have little to no sponsorship. Please note that all donations up to $400 will be matched!
  2. Secure at least 20 people to sign up for our “Strive for $5 Club” where you can make an automatic recurring monthly donation of $5 via our website, simply by clicking HERE.
  3. Secure monthly sponsors for Shai (pictured above), a senior Paso Fino mare. Shai came to us in 2021 from a Citrus County seizure. Shai had been “living” in a very small pen with several goats and a steer. Her needs had been neglected for quite some time. She arrived untrusting and afraid of humans – she would literally shake with fear. She found a good home with humans who were patient with her and, with time and patience, gained her trust. Sadly, there was an unexpected life event and Shai had to come back to the rescue this week. Shai has no sponsors but is very deserving. Would anyone like to help with her care costs? If so, you can sign up to make an automatic recurring monthly donation for Shai by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below. One time donations are also very much appreciated and no amount is ever considered as being too small.

If you are unable to donate at this time, we truly understand but you can still help by sharing this fundraiser amongst friends and family in hope that they may consider helping the horses as well.

Thank you in advance for your love and support!

Sincerely,
Theresa
