Thanks to the kind and most thoughtful generosity of our amazing little village of supporters, last week’s Hay Fundraiser was a big success and is thereby, now complete! And today, I am so excited and blessed to announce that a dear friend and supporter has just come forth to offer a new Match Game for this week’s hay needs… all donations up to $1,000 will be matched dollar for dollar!

As you may know, the weather here in Florida has been completely erratic since the arrival of winter, with night time temperatures, at times, dipping down into the 20s.

When temperatures drop, horses, mules and donkeys not only need to be blanketed in order to keep warm, but require much more hay as well, so this match game could not have come at a more perfect time.

If you are in a position to assist with this need, contributions can be made by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below. All contributions are tax deductible and please be assured that no amount is ever too small.

Thank you in advance for helping keep our beloved little herd of ‘Velvet Nosers’ happy and warm and a big Thank You to our dear match game sponsor and all who have donated thus far!

Our second Match Game is now complete and our GivingTuesday campaign is almost halfway to the finish line, thanks to the amazing generosity of our Match Game sponsors coupled with the support of our wonderful little village! As in previous years, this fundraiser will now morph into our End of the Year Campaign in hope that we will be able to reach our goal of $10,000 by year’s end.

And thanks to the amazing generosity of two additional friends and supporters, a new Match Game is now on the table, whereby all donations up to $1,500 will be matched dollar for dollar.

All donations, as always, are tax-deductible and no amount is ever too small. Just click on the ‘DONATE’ button below where you can contribute in a variety of ways.

A dear friend and supporter has recently come forth to offer a Match Game whereby all donations up to $1000 will be matched dollar for dollar. Once the Match has been met, our Summer Fundraiser goal of $5000 will be complete! This is a wonderful opportunity in which to not only double your contribution, but to make an incredible difference in the life of each and every member of our beloved little herd.

The Tractor & Mishka’s Paddock – Covered!

With the rainy season upon us, horses with thin soles, like Mishka (who carries 2,000 lbs. on his feet), need extra attention. It’s essential that he has soft sand upon which to stand, but the rain has washed away much of this footing material. We plan to fix this issue by adding an additional load of sand ($250) which will be kept in place by adding fabric at the front and side of his shelter. This is a big job that requires a tractor, but the tractor needs repairs – a parking brake, hydraulic actuator seal, hood latch, 4-wheel drive shift lever, and seat replacement. The estimated repairs are $1,800, but we will not have to schedule the next regular maintenance check until we have utilized fifteen hours of run time.

Fence Boards Still Needed

As the seasons change, our fence boards expand and contract, oftentimes breaking. This creates a safety risk for our horses. We need to replace at least 20 fence boards and keep 5 spares on hand. The 1”x6”x16” pressure-treated boards cost about $19 each, and we’re hoping our wonderful supporters will help sponsor a board to assist us in maintaining a hazard free environment for our little herd. And, with the Match Game, each donation for one board, will automatically, translate into two!

Beauty’s Haven Truck

The BH truck, essential for our daily work, needs its annual maintenance to keep running smoothly. We’ve received an estimate of $2,400 from the dealership which does not include 5 new tires with sensors, which would add another $1,700. We plan to get the tires done at Sam’s Club for a lower cost.

Miscellaneous Expenses

In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season, we’ve had the generators serviced for $440. We also still have veterinary bills ($3,000+), farrier and hay expenses, as well as additional ongoing needs.

If you’re able to participate in the Match Game, please click on the ‘Donate’ button below. If you’re unable to help financially, we completely understand, but you can still assist us by sharing our fundraiser amongst family and friends.

We are more than halfway there in our Summer Fundraiser thanks to the generosity and love of our wonderful little village of supporters! As we still have a ways to go, we would be forever grateful for your assistance with any of the much needed items listed below.

I apologize for being remiss in keeping everyone informed about the latest happenings at Beauty’s Haven, but as you know, we have been dealing with Pigeon Fever here at the rescue, which, unfortunately, has affected our donations significantly. The extra biosecurity measures and daily care required a great deal of time, making it difficult for me to stay active online. Thankfully, things are getting back to normal, but now, we have a lot of catching up to do. We are, thereby, reaching out to share some of our current needs, hoping for your support as we move forward. As of today, we are, therefore, launching a fundraiser with a goal of $5,000 which will help cover these pressing needs:

Special Thanks!

We were blessed to receive a $1,000 donation from the Pine Ridge Equestrian Association, which helped cover our most recent hay run. We are so deeply grateful for their generosity! We have also received a most generous Match Game offer whereby, all donations up to $250 will be matched dollar for dollar.

Freedom at Last!

Horse running free in a fenced field.

This is what freedom looks like! Valley Girl is back out with her friends and she is so very happy! I am happy to say, we are, at least for today, free of Pigeon Fever! It’s still in the surrounding area so we will continue to take precautions. But we are thrilled that Valley Girl is finally out and about once again. Please click on the image to view Valley Girl’s joyous return to freedom.

Flint, our most recent rescue, successfully made the trip and unloaded just fine. He seemed to be a bit more chipper and he even managed to say ‘Thank you’ which you can hear by clicking on the image above! He had a good night and was happy to go out this morning. He’s such a very sweet and kind horse. He was so hungry when we picked him up, but he now appears to truly love and appreciate his delicious hay and slurries.

Upon his arrival, my initial assessment revealed that Flint’s heart rate was normal, his gut and lungs sounded okay, his capillary refill rate was about normal, albeit he was a bit dehydrated. His temperature was a bit low but he was out in heavy rain before we picked him up so once at the rescue, we placed him under heat lamps to make him feel more comfortable. He taped in at about 600 pounds.

There was quite a bit of sand in his feces – I could even hear sand sounds in his gut.

We let him relax and adjust to his new surroundings last evening and scheduled the vet to come to the farm today in order to perform an examination and run necessary tests.

Although he is not out of the woods yet by far, he is thankfully on the right path now. We will have a better idea of his health once his blood test results come back.

Mentally, he certainly is in no frame of mind to give up. I do believe this sweet horse wouldn’t have made it much longer – there was no grass, no hay, nothing for him to eat except perhaps, bark off of trees.

Thanks to all in advance for allowing us to grant yet another precious soul a second chance at life.

We will update once again when Flint’s test results have been evaluated.

LAST CHANCE TO DOUBLE YOUR DONATION!

A dear friend and supporter has come forth and has offered to match all donations up to $2000 in order to assist us in procuring our much needed gates.

This is a perfect way in which to apply your year-end contributions while keeping the Beauty’s Haven herd safe at the same time. Just click on the ‘DONATE’ button above if you would like to contribute.

Thank you all for your love and support throughout 2024.

We hope this message brings a smile to your face, a moment in time where good fills your heart if only for a second. This beautiful Belgian mare is our latest intake. We’ve named her Adelaide, aka Addi. She’s thought to be around fifteen years old. Addi is very sweet, despite coming from a bad situation.

Addi will get a physical, her feet will be taken care of, and her dental needs will be addressed, hopefully, in the upcoming days. We don’t know how soon all of this can happen as people are still without power in many counties here in Florida. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

A ‘Welcome to BHFER’ Match Game in honor of Addi, has been kicked off today by one of our dear supporters, whereby all donations up to $100 will be matched dollar for dollar. If you would like to participate, please click on the DONATE button below. In addition, if you would like to view a brief video of Addi, please click on the image above.

Thank you in advance for your love and support in welcoming sweet Addi to our beloved Beauty’s Haven herd.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Sassy just had to live up to her name today – she never has a care in the world (as it should be)! These three snuck out of their paddock gate as Sandy was trying to get in to clean up. Lucy was a good girl and stayed behind. Please click on the image above to see a video of our little “wild things!”

Helene is way too close for comfort. The winds are getting worse with gusts up to 140 miles per hour and the rain bands are intermittent.

Everyone is tucked in, ID bands are on and hay has been distributed under the shelters and to the horses in the barn. Poor Peaches wanted to join me in the feed room so I made her a snack and will check on the remainder of our herd in the paddocks as soon as there is a break in the band. We have also lost power so we are truly very thankful for our generators.

A big thank you to our wonderful volunteers, Pam, Jillian, Bruce, and Lori for helping Bob and I prepare for the hurricane and for making certain that each horse is wearing their break away halter and ID collar. All members of our little herd are microchipped as well.

We are anxiously awaiting for this storm to pass. Sending prayers to everyone who in the path of the Hurricane Helene.

Match Game Update

There is still $375 remaining in the Match Game. Preparing for the hurricane involved a number of additional expenses – making yet another hay run, picking up additional grain as well as topping off the gas cans and vehicles. Thankfully the propane tank was recently filled. All donations to assist with these needs will not only be appreciated but will automatically be doubled – $1 becomes $2, $5 becomes $10 and so on, and no amount is ever too small. So please help if you can by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Yesterday was bittersweet as we saw Benjamin off to school. We’ve been fortunate to welcome several new volunteers recently, and with much happening here, it can be overwhelming for Benjamin. We don’t know anything about his past but we suspect it may not have been positive. One morning, in late 2022, we found Benjamin in one of our south paddocks. Someone must have dropped him over our fence during the night. He was afraid and malnourished. He’s physically very healthy now but has some issues that need to be addressed. Although Benjamin selected me to be his human, he has what I call mental cobwebs that need to be cleared away, and I’m not a dog trainer. It’s essential for him to understand the importance of respecting both people and other animals, while also keeping disruptions to the horses at a minimum.

We wanted to enroll Benjamin in training months ago but did not have the resources. I truly believe that some individuals come into our lives precisely when we need them.

Recently, during a tour with visitors, one of them recognized the difficulties we face with Benjamin and generously offered to fund his training! So, Benjamin is attending Canine Extreme, located here in Morriston. We were quite impressed with the instructor, Raul, who had worked with Shadow a few years back. They are only about ten minutes away! We are so truly blessed!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Aaleyah’s Big Announcement

Hey Everyone,

It’s me Aaleyah Belle, here to announce a new Match Game! Since the hay trailer is now completely empty, this Match Game could not have come at a more perfect time!

Please know that my friends and I would be forever grateful to anyone who wishes to help our little herd here at Beauty’s Haven. All donations up to $1000 will automatically be doubled ~ $1 becomes $2, $5 becomes $10 and so on, and no amount is ever too small. So please help if you can by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below. We currently have $625 in matching funds still available!

Thank you and Happy Weekend!

Love,
Aaleyah Belle

This morning, we trapped another sweet kitten who we have taken to the vet in order to be neutered. Now, we have at least, five more to go! And speaking of felines, yesterday, our sweet Pearle gave us quite the scare after disappearing for the entire day! Thankfully, she returned home late last evening, completely safe and sound.

Match Game Stalled

Our Match Game for farrier care appears to be at a standstill with just $75 still remaining in Matching Funds. JoJo has threatened to have a hissy fit as he did when he was a mere youngster while refusing to wear his fly mask. The images above show just what we are in for when our ‘Drama Prince’ gets mad! So, if anyone would like to help our little herd have ‘Happy Feet’ while doubling your donation at the same time, it would make JoJo and all of us so very happy indeed! The average cost per hooficure is $45, so just click on the ‘Donate’ button below if you would like to help while sparing us all a great deal of ‘JoJo’ drama at the same time!

Sponsors Needed

Mishka and Dancer benefit from Cosequin with MSM and they each need a container. Magic and Amira each need a container of EquiShield SA Powder to help with their ‘itches.’ If anyone would like to sponsor one of these most important supplements, please click on the ‘Donate’ button below.

Thank you in advance for your love and support!

Sincerely,
Theresa
