We’re Getting There!

As of last night, the thermometer has risen to $1104, so we are one-sixth of the way there! These funds are desperately needed and can help us recover from vet, farrier, facility, maintenance and equipment repairs, as well as other rescue related expenses. The weekly hay expense alone is $1000+. We also need assistance with ongoing expenses for the feral cat colony that lives on the farm.

And then this morning, we received a $300 donation towards the Match Game! A huge thank you to the generous donor! With this donation, we’re one step closer to reaching our goal. But we still need help! Each donation, regardless of the amount, greatly assists us in continuing our mission of making a difference in the life of each and every current and future member of the Beauty’s Haven herd.

New: Farrier Friday!

As we begin the month of June, we have decided to launch a new program, “Farrier Friday,” in hope that it will inspire our wonderful little village of supporters to help ensure that each and every member of our beloved herd will have “Happy Feet.” Whilst the majority of our equines receive trims every four to five weeks, sweet little Bouie and Frodo must have specialized farrier care every two weeks and as the average cost per hooficure is $45, it really adds up quickly!

Jazzy, Cracker, Shai, Elka, Danni, Tobi, Walker and Gabe are all scheduled to see the farrier this week. We hope and pray that we can raise $395 to cover the cost. We would be forever grateful for any assistance you can offer to help with this need, but if you are not in a position to do so at this time, we truly understand. You can still help, however, by sharing this message amongst family and friends.

Happy Birthday Aaleyah!

Aaleyah Belle was very excited on Friday morning for today was her birthday! She came running along with her friends, Mo and Walker, as she knew I had birthday carrots awaiting. *Please click on the image above to view a video of Aaleyah’s sheer joy and exuberance on her very special day!

Aaleyah Belle was born in 2008 with a wry nose and was scheduled to die only hours later together with her dam, Momma Sue. As this was the very same day that Eight Belles was euthanized after breaking down while crossing the finish line in 2nd place at the Kentucky Derby, Aaleyah Belle was named in memory of this remarkable race horse. Both fillies were full of heart and very, very brave.

My Birthday Wishes

I can’t believe it is already that time of the year! While the past year has gone by incredibly fast, my birthday fundraiser this year will, once again, remain the same – to help the horses that comprise our beloved herd.

My Birthday Wishes…

  1. Raise $2500 to help the horses here at the rescue that have little to no sponsorship. Please note that all donations up to $400 will be matched!

  3. Secure monthly sponsors for Shai (pictured above), a senior Paso Fino mare. Shai came to us in 2021 from a Citrus County seizure. Shai had been “living” in a very small pen with several goats and a steer. Her needs had been neglected for quite some time. She arrived untrusting and afraid of humans – she would literally shake with fear. She found a good home with humans who were patient with her and, with time and patience, gained her trust. Sadly, there was an unexpected life event and Shai had to come back to the rescue this week. Shai has no sponsors but is very deserving. Would anyone like to help with her care costs? Won’t You Be Our Valentine?

A Valentine’s Day Wish

The ‘Velvet Nosers’ here at Beauty’s Haven are eagerly awaiting Valentine’s Day and they truly hope that each of their ‘Aunties’ and ‘Uncles’ will send them a ‘Virtual Valentine!’

All you have to do is forward a $5 donation and indicate the name of the equine, dog or cat who you would very much love to be your Valentine. Of course, you may send a Valentine to more than one member of our beloved herd and if you would like to forward a donation greater than $5, that would be so very much appreciated as well.

Our Christmas Save

As you all know, we didn’t have a Thanksgiving save this year which I felt absolutely terrible about, especially since we had many calls from others wanting to surrender their horses. At the time, however, we were focused upon Beauty who was very sick and in the hospital. I am still adjusting to her being gone and I miss her so very much.

In honor of Beauty, we took in an aged mule that needed help as our Christmas save. Her name is Elka.

Just because one is old, doesn’t mean they should be neglected or sent to slaughter – every life is precious and every life matters. Elka will now only know love and proper care – this is our promise to her as it is to every sentient being that enters through our gates.

GivingTuesday 2023

During this most devastating time as we mourn the loss of Beauty, the Arabian mare that was the beginning, as well as the heart and soul, of Beauty’s Haven, we find it difficult to even put one foot in front of the other. We must, nevertheless, dig in our heels and carry on for the sake of the remainder of our equine herd as well as for the other sentient beings in our care. And whilst Beauty is no longer physically here, we know in our hearts that she will forever be watching over me and the rest of her family and friends here at the rescue.

With #GivingTuesday 2023 upon us, we are hoping and praying for your support to assist us with the numerous ongoing expenses involved in running an equine rescue organization.

These expenses that are necessary to ensure the overall safety, health, comfort and well-being of each and every member of our herd, many with special needs:

  • Broken gates and fence boards need to be replaced,
  • repairs to shelters and equipment are needed,
  • the supplement and medication cabinets need to be restocked,
  • Some horses here have no sponsors to even cover their daily expenses, and the list goes on.

As Beauty’s Haven is also actively engaged in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), the most effective and humane method for managing and subsequently, reducing the population of the numerous feral and stray cats that frequently find their way to our farm, your donation will also assist greatly with the veterinary and overall care expenses of these precious cats and kittens, who, sadly, find themselves alone and unwanted through no fault of their own.

We currently are in need of a catio which will provide a safe and warm place for the feral cats and kittens that routinely visit. Just last week, a new family of five kittens and their mother showed up – a big catch cage which would enable us to catch multiple cats and kittens at once would be a most necessary and welcome addition to our TNR program.

Gabe, Willow & Aaleyah Updates

After finally winning the war on Gabe‘s abscessed and ulcerated eye, which we have been treating since the end of August, our poor boy was sadly stricken with a bout of colic on Friday. Thankfully, we managed to get him through this episode; within a few hours he passed gas, had a bowel movement and was, once again, drinking. And then a few days ago, Willow, an eighteen year-old Thoroughbred mare we adopted out in 2016, came back to Beauty’s Haven through no fault of her own.

Willow and Gabe are both in need of sponsors to help with their daily ongoing care, so if anyone would like to sponsor either of these precious horses, just click on the ‘DONATE’ button below. Gabe and Willow, who have now become the very best of friends, would most assuredly, be eternally grateful.
