Arriving at the University of Florida for Genesis to have an eye exam. His right eye, the one with the detached lens, has been weepy and causing him discomfort.
Sadly, I left him at the hospital – he will have surgery in the am. All options were discussed and it was decided it would be in his best interest to remove his eye. He has glaucoma and the pressure was causing him much discomfort. It wasn’t going to get any better.
He will have his surgery standing. Putting him all the way down would put him at risk for injury or worse. I will be going back to the hospital in the morning. I feel so bad for him. He is such a good boy. I am sad about this – it’s a shame. Oh – he weighed in at almost 1700 lbs – he is a big teddy bear! The only comfort I find in making decisions such as this is that it will bring Genesis relief from discomfort. Please keep him in your prayers.
I’ll update from the hospital tomorrow. I’m exhausted and am calling it a day. We need to ask for help with his vet bill. They are estimating it will cost about $1500. If anyone would like to help it would be greatly appreciated. Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Donations can be made via our website “Donate” page at theresa. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Theresa

Paint and mini update
A quick update on this morning’s email about a Paint and a mini mare. The Paint has been reported to authorities and we received an inadequate response. We will be following up on this horse but we must give authorities some time to do their job.
Regarding the mini mare that looks to be pregnant – if we can raise first month’s costs and get some monthly sponsorship for her we’d like to bring her in. She’s going to need everything. It’s been a heck of a day and I’m not sure I’ll be at the computer or answering the phone again today. And I’m sorry if you have PM’d or emailed me and I haven’t responded please forgive me – it’s been very busy. But I’ll be checking email and messages by morning. Right now I need to go visit with the horses for a bit and give myself some time to calm and regroup.
Also – the raffle for Gentleman’s bracelet is up to a bid of $165. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Theresa

Paint and mini
I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I’d like to start the day out asking for prayers. This horse needs help. We’re doing what we can but he is on a vacant piece of land – the same kind of situation like Heart was in. He’s a 1 on the Henneke scale. At least he has a thick coat to help him stay warm on the cold nights.
And there is another mini that needs help – looking very pregnant. Please pray for that somehow we can help these horses. Oh, and then there is a family herd of Arabians we have been asked to help with. The Paint and mini are our focus today.
Sincerely,
Theresa

Clippings and Much Needed Baths
March 9th, 2013
Peggy Sue got clipped today – she’s SO cute!
Gentleman got some attention today too. He’s so sweet. His age has caught up to him and he has some not so good days but he has good days too. But when the bad outweighs the good, well, we know at some point we will leave us and the thought of that makes me very sad. He has arthritis and moves slow but he still has lots of life in his eyes and he’s happy. We appreciate each and every minute with him. He is so loved and he knows it.
Solace trying to snooze – there were lots of things going on at the rescue today. Roxie and Jenna gave him a much needed bath.
Bob went to Cedar Key this am to pick up a hood for Genesis with protective eye cup but it didn’t fit – it was too small. The one we thought we were buying at the hospital yesterday had been too small for him too. So today I spent hours looking frantically for something here to work and finally found a mask we had for a horse that had Uveitis flare ups. Sue Ann was visiting from TN and was Genesis’ primary care giver most of the day. I’m so glad she was here to stay with him to make sure he didn’t rub his face (which he had started to do this am) while I spent hours trying to come up with something to protect his eye.
I have lots more pictures but will update again tomorrow evening. It’s been an exhausting day – don’t forget to turn your clocks forward tonight!
Sincerely,
Theresa

Genesis’ Eye Surgery
Genesis did well for his surgery this am. The eye was removed and there were no complications.
Genesis is back at the rescue and doing well. He doesn’t like his medications and giving them to him is not an easy task. He’s a lot bigger and stronger than us humans! LOL One swing of his head could send you to next week!
The hospital mask with the eye cup protector didn’t fit him so we are trying to have one made – it’s going to be tough because it’s the weekend. We’ll be keeping close watch on him. He’s staying around the barn tonight.
Thank you all very much for caring about Genesis. His eye no longer hurts and the bill has been paid in full – it’s been a good day with many blessings! Have a good night everyone!
Sincerely,
Theresa

A little bit of Solace to help the horses…
March 8th, 2013
It’s that time again – we need to purchase 2 more tons of hay for the horses but this time we want to make it a little fun!
For every $20 you donate towards our hay purchase, you will get one entry into a drawing for a beautiful “shoofly” made from Solace’s hair! This can be attached to your purse, a keychain, etc. For example, if you donate $100, you get 5 chances to be the proud recipient of this beautiful keychain!
We will keep going until we meet our goal of $1130 (2 tons of hay). We have enough hay to get us through mid next week.
If anyone would like to help it would be greatly appreciated. Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Donations can be made via our website “Donate” page at www.bhfer.org/donate. Our PayPal address is bhfer@earthlink.net. Please annotate on any donation towards the hay that it is for the “Hay Game”!

Hooficures today…
Adora, Sisco, Gypsy, and several others had hooficures today. I’m not sure Adora knew what a hooficure was but she calmed after she realized it was ok. Gypsy – well, it took awhile to get her done. I had been told she preferred men over women – I don’t think I agree with that – maybe that was the case before she came here but not any longer. Fabio said her feet hadn’t been done in a long time – several months. I’ll get in to this more tomorrow but my headache won’t go away and stress level is very high tonight. I’m going to change all the doggie linens, take a shower, and call it a day. Have a good night everyone.

Theresa
