Elvis and Ford have hit the jackpot! They have been adopted into a wonderful home with someone who has adopted from us in the past. It’s a true blessing! We really did not want to separate them. Ford is 13 years young and really loves his little pony, Elvis, who is approximately 30 years young. They have had many changes in their life recently, but now, they have sunny days ahead in their new, loving, forever home. Enjoy the sweet video below of the boys happily prancing about in their lovely new paddock!

Thank you Maggie!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Thank you, all, for your love and support.

Wishing you a Blessed Passover and Easter.

I am reaching out to you on behalf of Theresa who has been dealing with sick horses for the past few days. On top of her routine daily chores, the necessity of keeping the sick horses isolated from the remainder of the herd has created quite a bit more work for Theresa.

Luiji, Warrior, Sassy, Peggy Sue and then, Dancer, started coughing over the weekend. By Saturday afternoon, some started running a fever and by yesterday, they all were feverish.

Thankfully, none of them have stopped eating. The vet was out yesterday morning to examine and do bloodwork on all of the sick members of our little herd, so, hopefully, we will have the results sometime today.

A few weeks ago, Jo was examined by the vet and bloodwork was done. Based on her behavior and symptoms, the vet advised that Jo was displaying symptoms of Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (dementia). Over the past several months, changes were noticed in both Jo’s personality and behavior. At times, Jo has appeared to be lost – she would just stand in one place and stare off into space, she has spooked a few times (which is new), and oftentimes, she takes a bite or two of a meal and then wanders off which is totally out of character for her. In addition, Jo has been fighting an eye ulceration which thankfully, after a few months of treatment, appears to have finally healed.

Jo’s blood test results were not great – there were some high and low values. She is anemic (a symptom of a larger health issue TBD) and her liver is a bit sluggish, both of which has greatly affected her immune system.

Anemia is caused by blood loss, blood destruction, or by the body not making enough red cells. Because she was walking away from her food at times, and she was due for her annual dental exam, her teeth were addressed last week but nothing of significance was apparent. She started running a fever a few days ago (it is currently normal) but there is now a foul odor emanating from her mouth which could indicate that there is something amiss in either her sinus passages or respiratory system. Theresa is making adjustments to Jo’s diet and supplements, and she will likely need additional diagnostics.

Days such as these are the reason why Theresa doesn’t post on social media as much as she would like to as she, Bob and our wonderful team of volunteers are literally caring for horses around the clock.

By the time the horses are all tucked in at night, there is little time for sleep before the next morning arrives. Volunteers help on most days until mid-afternoon and they make a tremendous difference. We are so truly grateful for them – they are such a blessing and we couldn’t do what we do without them!

Sadly, we must once again ask for assistance due to the additional and unexpected vet expenses, medications and supplements created by this current crisis.

If you would like to assist with this emergency situation, just click on the “Donate” button below to forward your contribution and please know that each and every donation is greatly appreciated and no amount is ever too small.

Thank you, all, for your love and support. Please keep Jo, Dancer, Peggy Sue and our “Littles” in your prayers.

MacGyver and Valley Girl, here, helping Mommy Theresa with another hay run! The current need includes 4 bales of Alfalfa (our favorite), 21 bags of Coastal, and 24 bales of Orchard for a grand total of $1078.

So, if you would like to help, it would make our tummies happy and give us a chance to test out our “new” teeth! Dr. Templeton (thank you Dr. T!) worked on our teeth yesterday and took care of some sharp points and other things so it’s much easier for us to chew now! Nicky had to have a tooth pulled and Peaches got an adjustment, too. Jo and Dancer also were done but Mommy Theresa will have to tell you about that at another time.

Please CLICK HERE to choose from a variety of ways to donate.

All contributions are very much appreciated and no amount is ever too small.

P.S. If anyone would like to start a Match Game to assist with this need, we would be forever grateful!

Thank you!

Love,
MacGyver & Valley Girl

Remi, our baby donkey, came to me several days ago with a special request from Hope. At some point either Freckles or Jerry the Giraffe told Remi and Hope about our precious baby calf, also named Hope, who arrived at Beauty’s Haven in April, 2019. Everyone adored Baby Hope, a spirited little calf who had an incredible will to live. A link to Chapter One of her story can be found by clicking HERE.

When Hope, our little mini filly, arrived this past December it took me quite some time to call her by her name without thinking about our little calf, Baby Hope. At times it made me very sad as precious Baby Hope meant the world to us and we miss her so very much to this very day. She was so truly loved.

Hope the mini’s personality began to shine as she was recovering from her colic surgery and I couldn’t help but think how incredibly spirited, bold, carefree, and independent she is.

Volunteers oftentimes comment about how sassy she is. I frequently tell her that she’s our “Little Sassy Pants!”

Back to Remi’s special request from Hope. Hope wants to know if we can just call her “Sassy.” It works for the rest of us and it truly fits her perfectly. So Sassy it is, and she already responds to her new name!

If you click on Miss Sassy Pants’s image above, you will see a video which perfectly captures her amazing spirit, made possible by each and every one of you, who helped grant her a second chance at life. Sassy is yet another Beauty’s Haven miracle!

A New Match Game

A wonderful friend and supporter has come forth to assist with our farrier and hay needs. We are so very thankful, as due to these precarious times, donations have been down for quite some time. The good news is that all donations up to $500 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, so if you wish to help sponsor a “hooficure” or contribute toward our hay needs, it would be so very much appreciated by horses, donkeys and humans alike. Just click on the ‘Donate’ button below and note that your donation is for our “Hooficures” and/or “Hay Match Game.”

Guess what everybody? A special day called Valentine’s Day is coming! It’s is a day when humans show appreciation for loved ones, family, and friends by giving them Valentine’s Day cards. Some also give candy, flowers, and other gifts but it would be okay to give things like treats and hay too!

It would make all of our herd really happy if each one of us were someone’s Valentine. Can we be yours? You could choose any one (or more) of us! Just send an email to mommy Theresa stating which horse, donkey, dog or kitty cat you would like to have as your valentine and she will place a heart next to our name(s).

Valentine’s Day kind of crept up on us this year – it’s only days away so we didn’t ask for cards. But, if you could help by sending a suggested donation of $5 per Valentine (or any amount) we’d really appreciate it! Donations can be sent by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below. If you can’t donate at this time, it’s really okay but we still want each and every one of you to be our Valentine because you’re all very special to us!

Thank you!

Love,
Aaleyah Belle, Beauty, Buckshot, CaryLou, Chloe, Dancer, Ebony, Frodo, Hope, Jazzy, JoJo, Jo, Lily, Lucy, Luiji, Magic, Mishka, Mo, Nadia, Nash, Nicky, Oasis, Peaches, Peggy Sue, Penny, Remi, Ruby, Valley Girl, Venus, Warrior, Shadow, Presley & Oreo

P.S. Thank you all for helping me get better.

It’s me, Hope! Did you know that on Thursday, a ‘controlled burn’ happened next door and went out of control and flames came over to our farm? It was so scary because it was very windy. I became less scared when Mommy Theresa told me that I did a great job helping to raise money for our hay run last week! It made me feel really good so I asked Auntie Jeanne if I could help again this week and she said, ‘Yes!’ We go through lots of hay during the wintertime because the grass does not grow so, if anyone would like to help with this week’s hay run, it would make me and all of my horsey and donkey friends (and Mommy Theresa) so very happy! And guess what? A very special Auntie has offered to match all donations up to $500!

Love,
Hope

As we began our Year-End Campaign (YEC) we were in the midst of helping three senior Thoroughbred mares, Aries, Raz and Nicky, who were part of a Thanksgiving Day rescue effort. Their needs are many and their long and winding road to recovery is quite extensive, but thanks to the generosity of each and every one of you, they are all now happy, proud and much healthier horses. We are thrilled to announce that Aries and Raz will soon be adopted together into a loving home. Nicky, who is blind and has diminished hearing, will permanently remain at Beauty’s Haven as a member of our beloved sanctuary herd as a special needs horse.

Since this campaign began, our precious mini mare, Hope, has also become a member of our little herd. As you all know, her needs have been significant and will continue to be for quite some time. Thanks to our amazing little village of supporters, Hope was granted the opportunity to have her life-saving surgery, proving once more that Beauty’s Haven is indeed a place “Where life begins, again!”

And just yesterday we informed you about our newest arrival, a very thin and neglected boy whose needs, like many who came before him, are quite extensive. But we promised this wise old soul, as we promised all who arrived before him, that all of his tomorrows will be better than his past should have been.

Despite the toll that Covid-19 has taken upon all of us, you have rallied to our cause to help our wonderful little herd, and for that, we remain eternally grateful!

Our YEC campaign is winding down with just $4,790 needed to attain our goal of $15,000, so if you would like to make a last minute tax deductible donation to help the horses and donkeys at Beauty’s Haven, you may do so by merely clicking on the “Donate” button below. If donating via PayPal, please select the tab, “Send Money to Friends or Family” and no fees will be deducted from your contribution. Please also note that your donation is for, “#YEC.” If you are unable to contribute at this time, we truly understand, but you can still help by sharing this email amongst friends and family.

Wishing you Peace, Happiness & Love in the New Year.

Sincerely,
Theresa
