Spring Wish: Many Mini Happy Feet!

Bouie, Frodo, Ebony, Lily, CaryLou, Lucy, Peggy Sue, Luigi, Warrior, Misti, Sassy, Simba, JoJo and Jazzy are on the farrier’s list this week, and while their dream to have “happy feet” on St. Patrick’s Day did not come true, they are hoping it will be fulfilled by the first day of spring.

The average cost of a farrier visit per mini is $33.

Will you be our Valentine?

Guess what everybody? A special day called Valentine’s Day will soon arrive! It’s is a day when humans show appreciation for loved ones, family and friends by giving them Valentine’s Day cards. It would really make all of us ‘Velvet Nosers’ so very happy to be someone’s very special valentine.

Time for another hay run!

Due to the freezing temperatures of the past week and the upcoming cold nights we must make a hay run tomorrow for six large compressed half pasture bales (each weighs approximately 500 pounds) as well as 8 bags of coastal. The cost of the six half bales and 8 bags of coastal is $830, so if anyone would like to help with this need, it would be so greatly appreciated. This hay should last until Tuesday or Wednesday when another cold front will be moving in. Then we will need to do it all over again.

Meet & Help Our 2021 Christmas Saves

Every year, we try to help a horse in need over the holidays. This year, we are once again asking for your assistance to help two precious souls that have been stuck in a very bad situation for over a year now. Their owner and the ‘system,’ have failed them terribly, for they should have been removed from their home long ago.

One is a gray 22 year-old Thoroughbred mare who won several thousands of dollars during her racing career. She was neglected and starved repeatedly over many years, but she managed to survive. Sadly, some of her herd members were not as lucky.

The other is an older donkey who is very thin and has foundered at some point in the past. She recently had her baby weaned from her. It’s so terribly sad that she was intentionally bred with her feet being in such poor condition.

Both of these sweet girls need everything – a vet exam, bloodwork, x-rays of their front feet, and supplements. They also need an appointment with the equine dentist and farrier.

It is with great hope that x-rays will determine the path we must take in order to help this sweet donkey. I’m concerned that findings may lead to a poor prognosis, but I’m praying for a miracle which will give us the opportunity to make her comfortable and thereby grant her a good quality of life. She’s in good spirits, but obviously quite uncomfortable.

A wonderful friend and supporter has just come forth and has offered to match all donations up to $300 to help them. Initial needs for each will be at least $500 but it may be more depending upon how many x-rays are needed. They also both need ongoing support for their care. Dental, Farrier, Fundraising

From hooves to teeth, rescue care from the ground up!

It was a very busy day at the rescue this past Thursday. Dr. Bess Darrow (Tune-Ups Equine Dentistry) spent a good part of the day at Beauty’s Haven taking care of many teeth. Scooter and Simba did great as did Belle Star, Chloe and Nicky, our very sweet blind mare. Actually everyone was good, except for CaryLou who decided he didn’t want to cooperate and opted to make faces to share his displeasure. He’s always starting or getting into something – he’s a hoot! Peaches’s examination revealed that she has not lost any additional teeth and thankfully, all was fine with Luiji as well. Lucy and Peggy Sue were rescheduled for another day as they were not sweating. It truly was a very productive day!

If anyone would like to help with our dental bill, it would be so greatly appreciated. We have already received a number of donations but we are still in need of $750 to have the entire bill covered.
