It was wonderful seeing Gabe and Maggie (a recent county seizure) together exploring new places and making new friends. They are both such very sweet horses. Gabe has COPD, which we are trying to manage, whilst sweet Maggie does not sweat at times. Maggie’s neglect case is still pending with the county but her owner has been charged. Maggie and Gabe both need sponsors for their care including hay, grain, farrier work, etc., so if you would like to sponsor or help either horse, please click on the ‘DONATE’ button at the bottom of this post where you can make a one-time contribution or sign up for monthly automatic donations which help tremendously.

Nadia is still searching for a perfect friend since we lost Venus in November. Nadia and Venus had been together for twenty-five plus years. A few weeks after Venus passed, Peaches sensed that Nadia was grieving and remained by her side. Peaches has always helped others cope with the loss of a friend, but since she has always been a loner, her comfort to others is only temporary and after a few weeks of giving the other horse time to adjust, Peaches is ready for the other horse to move on. Nadia has Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis (DSLD), a progressive condition that leads to chronic breakdown of tendons and ligaments. Her condition will only worsen and at some point, we will have to make the decision to let her join Venus. We will keep her comfortable for as long as possible, but in the meantime, we will continue our quest to find Nadia another very best friend from within our herd.

Sincerely,
Theresa

It is going to be a very sad day – an emotional one. Little Tilly’s COPD has progressed to the point where her quality of life is just not there and the kindest thing we can do is to let her go to Rainbow Bridge.

Tilly is so very sweet. She still has spirit and spunk, but she is now really struggling. Over the last couple of weeks, she’s lost weight and is having a significantly harder time breathing and she’s not finishing her meals.

Dr. Elizabeth spent time with her yesterday and after reviewing her condition, and what options there are (we are out of options, really), we agree it is time to let her go.

We lost Ceri a few days ago to colic and I learned that we lost Reese yesterday. I will update about them after tomorrow. They were both very sweet mares that were adopted out years ago.

We have lost so many this year. It’s very, very hard on the heart.

Please keep Tilly (and those of us who love and adore her) in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you & God bless.

Sincerely,
Theresa

It’s been many days since I’ve had a chance to share the daily happenings at Beauty’s Haven, but we’re still here and as always, extremely busy!

A few days ago Dr. D’Agosto (aka Elisabeth – a volunteer from years ago – so proud of her accomplishments!) came back to work on a number of our horses and implant some microchips. We are so very grateful to Elisabeth as well as to our wonderful village of supporters who have made our wish for a new Microchip Scanner & Chips a reality!

Ruby received a wonderful grooming and acupuncture treatment by Dr. Elisabeth. Later in the day Dr. Mangan examined Ruby’s eyes as she’s been having issues with her left eye – a flare-up of chronic uveitis and her cataract has worsened a bit. Warrior was also having eye issues so he was examined by Dr. Mangan as well, and is now also receiving some meds. We are so appreciative of Dr. Mangan!

Tilly and Peggy Sue just love the grass. Tilly has COPD – some days can be quite the challenge for her. She also has a rather large hernia on her side which doesn’t seem to be uncomfortable. She’s a really sweet and happy little mare.

Peggy Sue can’t bend her back leg because many years ago, when her humans “helped” her deliver her baby, they shattered her pelvis in multiple places. Thankfully she gets around pretty well. She’s a happy little mare, too.

Thanks to you, our amazing supporters, we’ve been able to help many with special needs. They are all so very precious.

Congratulations!

Lastly, thank you to everyone who participated in our second Betsy Rose Birthday Fundraiser. Congratulations to Pamela H. for being the lucky recipient of this very special collection of Betsy Rose themed items!

Wishing everyone a wonderful week. Stay Safe!

Sincerely,
Theresa
