Joanne Kelley and Elaine visited yesterday – it was so nice to meet them! Putting names to faces and introducing the horses is something I truly enjoy! I probably talked way too much! LOL

Joanne wanted to get slimmed by the famous Aaleyah Belle – well, she got it ok!

All of the little boys wanted to be the first to say “Hello!”

Indy and Baby Ray are doing great!

Betsy Rose is almost looking a little chunky.

Solace wasn’t feeling so very good today. Hopefully it is just a change in weather.

Cookie is such a sweet girl. I’m not liking what I’m seeing in her eye though. Hopefully Dr. Porter can get out to the farm in the next few days.

Bella is doing better at her foster home with Kim Furse. She’s been started on a new protocol for her respiratory issues which are better. Bella is happy getting more one on one attention at Kim’s and she has a best friend mare named Winnie!

Don’t forget….

Have a great week, everyone!

Sincerely,

Theresa

November 24th – 25th, 2013

We found a blanket for Mollie to wear tonight – the cold snuck up on us! It’s a bit small but her new one should arrive this week. Her eyes look better. Dr. Ryan will be out tomorrow to examine her again and do more blood work to see how… she’s progressing. Her appetite is good but she’s running a little bit of a temperature. She’s still on IV antibiotics and gets other supplements as well. You can see the Arabian in her – she’s a proud little girl and we’re very proud of her! She’s a fighter! I’m so glad she held on and that she never gave up – she had been on the ground overnight and until we got to her that day. She deserves everything she’s been deprived of, and more. Her stunted growth is some evidence of her past. Like Betsy Rose, we’ll do our best to make sure all of Mollie’s tomorrow’s are what her past should have been. We love you Mollie!

Betsy Rose introducing her new little friend with angel wings to Bronson.

This is Classy. We had to take her to UF a few years ago because she had to have a permanent tracheotomy. She can’t whinny because of it. She’s a very sweet mare.

Peggy Sue – she’s so cute! She can’t bend her back left leg. Her pelvis was fractured in 3 places when her breeder/owner pulled a baby from her years ago. Peggy Sue is adorable! She’s lost a few lbs which is a good thing!

Gentleman – he’s an icon here that is simply a treasure. He’s an older Percheron that we pray is with us for many more years to come. He’s loved so much!

CJ is doing very well. He will be looking for a home as a pasture pal. He’s beautiful.

Garan is still looking for a home! He’s handsome, funny, and loving!

It would be really nice if Ceri and Garan found a forever home together! They are both really nice registered Arabians.

This is Indy’s Rising Son. We call him Indy. He’s had a good year of training under him and is looking for a home. He’s not going to be a big boy even though his mom was a Percheron cross. His past is a sad one even though he was born here.

Can’t forget Little E! He’s an elderly Arabian – another that everyone adores!

Almost forgot Solace!

It was a very exciting day here this past Friday! Dr. Julia Simonson arranged for Janek Vluggen (from Germany) to come to Beauty’s Haven to work with Betsy Rose and Bella! Janek Vluggen D.O., MRO-EU, EDO® is recognized as the leading expert in the field of modern Equine Osteopathy. To say that I was amazed, would be an understatement! I’ll share more tomorrow – I’m crashing on a project and need to finish up some things. Have a great night all!

Theresa

October 12th – 15th, 2013

Betsy Rose enjoyed visitors on Saturday.

Betsy Rose

I actually took some time on Sunday to go for a little ride myself. It was nice, very nice! The weather has been perfect!

Oasis

Baby Boo is getting big! Daisy’s tumors appear to be shrinking!!

Daisy and Boo

Remember Starlight? She was a rescue we took in last year that was “unwanted”. She had been living in horrible conditions. Look at what she and Jordan accomplished today!!! I’m convinced there are no “unwanted” horses. Some may be misplaced, but they are all wanted, IMO. I’m so proud of both of these girls – just look at the ribbons!

Look at Lacey with her new human – this is a reminder of why it may take us longer than some to find homes for horses. It has to be the right fit – the right connection. Our goal is to find a forever home. When the time, horse, and human are right, well, great things happen. Look at that SMILE! PRICELESS!

The boys have somewhat of a winter coat already – they are so cute! CaryLou still struts. LOL

“Mommy Theresa that’s my itchy spot! WhooHooo that feels good!”

Gentleman loves his tree with overhead mister. And the others love Gentleman. So, they gather each day – under the tree!

HighTower having fun in the hay. LOL! He’s a big teddy bear!

Bo has become quite the babysitter! Bo is the horse that was dropped off in the middle of a dirt road and abandoned. He walked from the road to a tree and that’s where he stood all day long likely waiting for his owner to come back for him. They never did. It was a hot, sweltering feels like 100 degree day, with no water – from at least 7 am that morning until we picked him up late that evening. I think he was likely a cow horse that got injured and could no longer work. He’s got the moves, but he is very lame from an old injury.

I wanted to share this photo of our human son, Joshua. He went for a helicopter ride over Orlando for his birthday!

Dr. Bess of Tune Ups Veterinary Equine Dentistry and Services, will be here on Thursday – would anyone like to sponsor a horse or two for their dental? On the list are Aaleyah Belle, Lucy, Ruby, Lily, Princess, and Morgan.

Sweet little Lucy wanted to go out and explore in the big paddock today. She’s so cute! Lucy has Big Head Disease aka Bran Disease.  But we all love Lucy!

Little E is getting more and more gray but he’s still very handsome!

Beautiful Bella has developed breathing issues. She’s being treated by Dr. Julia. She needs to find a good home – the longer she is here by this lime rock road the worse she will get. I know, believe me, I know. The lime rock dust is horrible and a large part of the reason I get respiratory issues.

Today was hooficure day! We have many more hooficures needed – would anyone like to help cover this expense? No amount is too small! Our PayPal address is Theresa. Donations are tax deductible and can also be made via our website at https://www.bhfer.org. All donations are very much appreciated!

Hooficures Needed

It’s been a long day and I’m really looking forward to bed. I’ll post pictures from today and provide a detailed update after feeding in the am.

Some not so good news for Bouie.  Some not so bad news for Betsy – whew! Tammie made it down to volunteer for a couple of days and was a big help today! Here she is with Betsy Rose letting her graze for bit.

Betsy Rose

Thank you all so much for your support – have a blessed night!

September 26th – 27th, 2013

It was a very busy day here yesterday. Dr. Julia came to check out Bella (she had breathing issues) and to check on Betsy Rose. Betsy Rose has strained a ligament in her back left. She’s on stall rest for awhile with limited hand grazing. I feel bad for her but she takes it all in stride – she’s a tough little girl.

This was Betsy Rose being checked out yesterday by Dr. Julia. Stall rest for awhile – limited hand grazing. Going to have to get her more toys for her suite.

Dr. Bess (Tune Ups Veterinary Equine Dentistry and Services) came and worked on a few horses. How would you like to have to eat your meals with your top razor sharp tooth piercing your tongue and putting a hole in your lower jaw? This was just one of many issues Vegas had (this is the horse that lived with Chance).

How about this one? This is more than a year’s worth of neglect. You should NOT have a horse if you can’t take proper are of it (IMO)! Seriously, how would you like to have to try to graze and chew with teeth like this?

Have to slip this one in of my little Popper. She’s hilarious! We have two Boston Terrier’s – Popper and Trixie. They really are great entertainment.

Fabio was here this morning and even Betsy Rose got a hooficure – very gently, of course. Her back leg is still bothering her, but it seemed a little better today. I actually managed to get out and do some work today for a bit. Still trying to get over this round of pneumonia.

Bonnie letting Betsy Rose graze a bit today.

Daniele, Trisha Kelly Jones and Sherry-Kenny Luzader taking care of chores today. Extra hands are always good!

Betsy Rose opening a present today. She LOVES presents!

Betsy Rose really loves nosing through her packages. She’s so cute and appreciative of everything. She’s so expressive!

This is my very special blanket that was made just for me with a lot of love in honor of Schoep – a very special dog. Thank you Stop Animal Cruelty Worldwide!”

“I really love my blanket! Here are some pictures of me sharing it with my friends. They all agree it’s very soft!”

“What do you think Freckles – do you like it? Let’s invite the others to see what they think!”

“I think they LOVE it!”

“Do y’all know how lucky we are? I wish all animals could feel as loved as I do. I dreamed about being this loved and cared for and I prayed and I never stopped believing. I have a big family now that really cares about me! BELIEVE!!”

Betsy Rose has a new friend that arrived today! It was Beanie Secretariat!

“Lucy, really? Come on let’s go try to get into the feed room while nobody is looking! I know you’re always sticking your nose into the feed room door when a human opens it. There’s a lot of goodies in there – we’re too cute to get into real trouble! Mommy Theresa will just take more pictures and then give us a good talking to while she’s scratching our butt. It’ll be fun!”

A video of CaryLou and his ball. I think the ball actually won!

Daisy had another surgery this week. The tumor above her right eye continues to grow. The tumors around her left eye are no worse. Dr. Hughes is trying a different chemo treatment. It’s not looking good at this point but we haven’t given up. Daisy is in good spirits and can see out of both eyes. Boo is doing fantastic! Please keep Daisy in your prayers.

This is the portrait of CaryLou and his momma! It’s available through our online store at . The artist is Shannon Mordue!

God Bless and Thank You!

Have a great weekend, Everyone!

Theresa

August 4th – 5th, 2013

Some of the horses got much needed baths this past weekend thanks to Wanda Sue Malphurs, her daughter, Martina, and son, Caleb!  Look at the pretty horses!

Ceri – a really sweet 20 yr old Arabian mare.

Classy – a Sanctuary pony.  She has a permanent trach and front feet issues.

Bella – this is Starbucks mom.  She’s available for adoption.  Very, very sweet girl.

And this is a Clydesdale named Genesis – a Sanctuary horse.  One of his eyes was removed a few months ago and the other has early stage of glaucoma.  The vets say he will likely lose that eye within the next 5 years.  He came to us several months ago with sores on all of his legs.  We were able to get the front ones cleared up.  But the back ones needed some extra attention which Jenny has been diligently giving them and they are much better!  He has a scrotal hernia and a suspected cancer spot that we monitor.  He’s a gentle giant.

Peggy Sue got a hooficure yesterday.  Betsy Rose was happy to give up the sling for awhile.  Peggy Sue is a Sanctuary mini.  She has issues with her back left leg which is basically straight and can’t bend due to an injury years ago when giving birth.  She’s a sweetheart.  We do keep close eye on her.  Sometimes, if she lays on the wrong side, she can’t get up and needs assistance.

Betsy Rose just before being tucked back into the sling last night.  Like me, she was tired!  She stayed out for about 3 hours this yesterday evening.  She hardly coughed any on Monday and her edema is almost gone and her nasal discharge is better too.

We could use some prayers today for Solace, Amy, and Betsy Rose.  Solace had a temp this am and appeared to be trying to choke.  It seems to have cleared and his temp is coming down.  He’s in a stall under fans.  Amy was trying to colic but seems better.  Betsy Rose is coughing some.  It’s too busy here today!

Just a quick update…

Bella got somewhat of a much needed bath today. Still working on that mane. We couldn’t stay out long because the baby isn’t supposed to be out. Bella has layers of dirt so it’ going to take a couple more baths to get her good and clean. She really is a doll. Jean drove up today to help out – thanks Jean!!

Baby managed to get the catheter out of his neck so the vet is coming back out to put another in. I’m so sorry to have to put the baby through this again. It wasn’t wrapped but you can bet that this time it will be. He is still straining to go poo. It’s hard to believe that momma is providing more milk already but she is – she actually has a little bit of a bag. J

Have to run – the vet just got here.

Theresa
