I hope everyone had a great weekend.  The weather here was perfect! Here are a few pictures and updates on a few of the horses.

Sisco yesterday – his cancer site looks good.  We are still applying the cream.  Dr. Porter says at this time he does not think Sisco will need another treatment.  Sisco is so funny – like a big kid!

The other Cisco – he’s looking for a forever home.  He is a Haflinger cross.

Little CaryLou is all boy!  He keeps his momma on her toes!

Lucy is doing ok.  She’s had some tremors Friday and Saturday evenings which caused me a bit of worry.  Dr. Ryan will be out tomorrow to examine her and to pull some blood.  When she was released from the hospital she had hyperlipemia and hepatic lipidosis – her prognosis was poor and very guarded for survival.  She wasn’t eating or drinking, had body tremors, had aspiration pneumonia, and had been running fevers – the odds were against her.  Upon arrival, I immediately modified her diet and put her on Well-Gel and other supplements.  Giving her IV fluids/meds was very important so you can imagine how we felt when the vein on one side of her neck collapsed – the other had collapsed at the hospital.  After the other side collapsed here, the catheter was placed in a remaining good vein in her leg.  But then that collapsed.  It has been a roller coaster ride but we continue to keep the faith and we have hope.  Lucy’s attitude has been bright and positive which helps tremendously.  She is monitored closely – her poop, water intake, appetite, attitude, temp.  I have to laugh at her – she’s feeling better enough to now run the other way when she seems one of us coming with meds in our hands! LOL!  Lucy adores our little tank, CaryLou.  This evening Twinkle finally allowed CaryLou to visit with Lucy without her supervision. Lucy isn’t out of the woods, not by far, and her recovery is going to happen over many months.  Please continue to pray for her.

Silver Belle has made new friends and is doing really well.  She will be starting school soon.  I don’t know what Patti and Silver Belle were looking at in this picture but aren’t they beautiful?

Rayo is also doing well and is enjoying school!

Remember Lexi?  She is Lacey’s 2 year old and Dora’s full sister.  She is also doing great – a very beautiful girl.

We need a load of shavings – the pregnant mares stay in all night and Twinkle/CaryLou also stay in during the hot part of the day. A load (60 bags) of shavings is $230. Would anyone like to help?

Solace has a new snotty nose with an odor to it. He hasn’t run a fever but he’s not as interested in his meals and just seems somewhat “off”. We’d like to have Dr. Ryan examine, scope, him and do a culture to determine if he’s got something new going on. This would be about $150. Would anyone like to help him?

We have had two horses come back in the last week that need vetting – any help with them would be greatly appreciated.  Donations can be called directly into the vet’s office at 352-237-6151.  Please specify if you call how you would like your donation applied – to a specific horse or to our account in general.

We truly appreciate your continued support.  If anyone would like to help with the vet expenses, shavings, hay, etc. you can donate via PayPal address theresa or via our website page at www.bhfer.org/donate.  Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small.  We operate totally from donations – your support makes what we do possible.  Thank you!

We hope everyone had a great weekend!  It was busy here but uneventful which is good.  I did move a couple of horses around this evening to help the “mareish” situation.  Solace paced a 2’ deep trench down the fence line in front of the house last night.

Cisco and Sunset.  Sunset will be heading home to Lisa’s in Colorado in a couple of weeks – we’re so excited for her!

Gypsy’s very beautiful blue eye…

Genesis – he’s doing ok but still having a little trouble with depth perception.  He will get better.

Calling it a day early – I have a Dr. appointment in the am and it’s going to be very busy here.  Have a good week everyone!

Sincerely,
Theresa

This is yesterday’s update:  Solace napping in the sun after breakfast.  He’s doing great.

He has a job he seems to really take pride in – watching over his little herd of mini mares!

Amy has come to love human attention.  Ariel is much better.  Adora is still adorable!

We got the mini mare that I was worried coyotes would get!  We were told she doesn’t know human touch and doesn’t lead.  She’s a cute girl looking ready to foal soon.  I think we will call her Twinkle!  Bob ran into a neighbor at the feet store this evening and he said he has killed 4 coyotes in the last week.  He breeds Beagles for hunting dogs.  The momma dog went out with her 2 pups one evening and the pups came back – she likely gave herself so her pups could run back home.  So sad.  I’m so glad Twinkle is here and a bit more protected from the coyotes.  Her feet were horribly long – she had a hooficure which went ok.  She has got to feel better now that her feet are done.

Will try to stick her tomorrow to see how tall she us.  I have no idea how old she is.  I do think she has had some handling though – either that or she is a fast learner willing to trust.

Dr. Porter will be out next week to do Sisco’s next chemo treatment.

This is from today: LAST DAY TO BID! Don’t forget the horse hair bracelet auction off!  This one is made from Gentleman’s hair!  It was made by Lisa Austin of Crazy4ponytails.  CURRENT BID: $180! Bid increments: $5 Auction ends: 3-15-13.

We need to try to finish up the hay game – will need to get the hay mid next week. I think we are down to needing somewhere in the $500 range.  Remember that for every $20 donation you make towards the hay, you will get one entry to win a nice “Shoofly” made from Solace’s hair!!  We appreciate every little amount you can spare!  UPDATE: We really need to get this hay – we are doubling the chances!  If you have already donated for a chance for $20 you’ll get 2 chances.  From here on out for every $10 you’ll get 1 chance!

Please share the info on the auction and the hay game!  Thank you all for caring – have a beautiful and blessed day!

Theresa

Penny helping this am – she’s a donkey that prefers flavored water! Hay – that’s my Propel!

Genesis thinking about going out into the main paddock for a supervised walk this am. He wasn’t too sure at first.

We have been worried terribly about a pregnant mini mare that looks to be due anytime. She has just been living out in a pasture – her feet need done, she needs vaccinations, vetting, dental, etc. There are so many coyotes this year – my fear is they will get her and her baby when she goes down to foal. Well, some good news!
Today, someone donated funds needed for her first month’s care!

This girl is going to need hay too! Please help our current hay fundraiser! We are down from needing $1130 to $700 for the hay purchase! For every $20 donated towards our hay purchase, you will get one entry into a drawing for a beautiful “shoofly” that can be attached to a key chain, purse, etc. that is made by Lisa Austin of Crazy4ponytales from Solace’s hair! So, if you donate $100, you will get 5 chances to win! We will keep going until we meet our goal of $1130 (2 tons of hay).

If anyone would like to help it would be greatly appreciated. Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Donations can be made via our website “Donate” page at https://www.bhfer.org/oldsite/donate.html. Our PayPal address is theresa@beautysequinerescue.org. If you are donating for the hay game please annotate that this is for the “Hay Game” so that we can keep track of our entries!

Peggy Sue got clipped today – she’s SO cute!

Gentleman got some attention today too.  He’s so sweet.  His age has caught up to him and he has some not so good days but he has good days too. But when the bad outweighs the good, well, we know at some point we will leave us and the thought of that makes me very sad. He has arthritis and moves slow but he still has lots of life in his eyes and he’s happy. We appreciate each and every minute with him. He is so loved and he knows it.

Solace trying to snooze – there were lots of things going on at the rescue today. Roxie and Jenna gave him a much needed bath.

Bob went to Cedar Key this am to pick up a hood for Genesis with protective eye cup but it didn’t fit – it was too small.  The one we thought we were buying at the hospital yesterday had been too small for him too.  So today I spent hours looking frantically for something here to work and finally found a mask we had for a horse that had Uveitis flare ups.  Sue Ann was visiting from TN and was Genesis’ primary care giver most of the day.  I’m so glad she was here to stay with him to make sure he didn’t rub his face (which he had started to do this am) while I spent hours trying to come up with something to protect his eye.

I have lots more pictures but will update again tomorrow evening.  It’s been an exhausting day – don’t forget to turn your clocks forward tonight!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Solace wasn’t feeling very well this morning. Blood tests didn’t show anything – the results were all good. His temp was up much of the day but is finally down to normal. We will keep monitoring him and if he gets worse I’m to call Dr. Ryan. Please keep him in your prayers.

This is Sisco. He had a tumor removed a few weeks ago – squamous cell carcinoma.  The site was injected with cisplatin and cream is being applied daily – he is doing great.  He will need another chemo treatment on about 4 weeks.  If we win first place in the Elder Ford of Tampa contest it would cover the cost of his next treatment.  Please vote for us and ask friends and family to also vote.  Thank you!

PLEASE help us to find a good home for Sunset – she really needs to go somewhere with plenty of shade ASAP. Sunset is a 25 yr young former PMU mare who is in need of a forever home. She has a wonderful, sweet personality. She needs to go somewhere cooler or with plenty of shade as she struggles in the heat – have very little shade. If you are interested in adopting Sunset please e-mail Melissa at bhfer.melissa. Adoption fee will be waived to approved home.

The first bracelet, made by Lisa Austin of Crazy4ponytails, is made from the hair of Solace!  The minimum bid was $40 and bidding increments are $5. B idding will end 3-3-13!  All proceeds will go directly to helping the horses!  Current Bid: $200!!

We are still in need of Arabian, Horse, and Large Horse size double Velcro flymasks. And we need milk thistle – many of the horses here get this. We usually get this from The Healing Barn – if you would like to help with this please let me know. Ideally, we would order the 11 lb. container.  And usually, when ordered and being shipped to us, a discount is given.

Calling it a day a bit early – going to meet a mare (possibly pregnant) in the morning that I’m told will be fed to big cats if a home isn’t found. Thank you all for your continued support – have a great night!

Theresa

Solace had a gas colic last night but is now passing gas and poop.  He’s drinking but has no appetite and his temp is up a bit.  He still has the snots now and then.

Please keep him in your prayers.  I will try to post a video of him on YouTube later today.

It’s going to be a VERY busy day here but I’ll update when I can.  Have a great day everyone!

Some of you may remember Joy? She is a Palomino mare that we took in from the July 2010 Naples case. She was pregnant and lost her baby due to dystocia – we almost lost Joy. It was horrible and I never want to experience anything like that again. Joy is doing great and her human mom adores her! This is Joy with her new best friend Jon Jon.

Joy

Penny had been pestering the grown up horses to run and play but none wanted to – she’s so funny to watch. On Saturday it was really great to see Penny and Roxy playing – Roxy volunteers on Saturdays with her dad. I think Roxy wore Penny out!

Genesis

Genesis is doing great.

Rosita.

Sunset is adorable. We are still looking for a home for her – she does not do well here with so much sun and the dust that blows off the lime rock road is horrible. Temps go up and her breathing goes up. Please spread the word on her and help us to find her a home. We thought she was only going to be here for a short time for rehab (which is done) but the home didn’t work out. She needs sponsors to help pay for her care. Sunset is a retired PMU mare that was forced to endure a horrible job so humans could benefit. Here is a link to a video about the PMU industry – you can see the kind of life she lived is just horrible (and she’s had many babies, I’m sure). [youtube http://youtube.com/w/?v=2I-WYOIx7Ug&feature=player_detailpage]
Sunset

Lily trying to fly! Here is a link to a video of Bouie, Frodo, Lily, and Ebony playing “Tag – you’re it!” They are hysterical!

And here is Armani – as striking as ever! He’s a big boy and his human mom says “he is not only loved – he is adored!”
Armani

Sammi and Joy – Joy isn’t a baby anymore! These two are very lucky girls – they have a wonderful human mom that loves them very much! Here is a link to a video of them when Joy was just a couple of days old. [youtube http://youtube.com/w/?v=vrCu9m4XqKE] Enjoy!
Sammi and Joy

And here is Hollie – all settle in at her new home. She is greatly missed here but it makes me feel really good knowing that she will be much more comfortable there – the heat here just did not agree with her. Her human mom says she’s a keeper and that her eyes are truly a pathway to her soul. I agree 100%! To think that her previous owners were still driving and riding her in the condition she was in before we picked her up is just sickening. We’ll update now and then on how she is doing. To everyone that cared about, and helped her, thank you.

Hollie

Seeing the horses in their new homes, reading their updates, it just helps so much. There is a lot of heartbreak in what we do but the successes are so uplifting and they remind us that we do make a difference. While we can’t save them all we do our best and help as many as we can. And we are very blessed to have the opportunity to help the horses – and if we didn’t have the support from others it wouldn’t be possible.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been pretty busy here. I am behind on emails so please, if you have written to me and I haven’t responded, I apologize but I hope to get to them in the next couple of days. Thank you for caring and for your continued support! We are still in need of flymasks (double Velcro latch), flyspray, detangler, and a few other items. We are also looking for sponsors for hay – just $13.30 will sponsor a bale of hay. In this load of hay there are 41 bales in a ton. If we can get enough sponsors for a ton we will then get $10 off which would almost buy one more bale. Every bit helps! If anyone would like to help we would appreciate it. Donations are tax deductible and very much appreciated!
