Just 9 Equines to Go!

Our October “Farrier Friday” fundraiser is almost complete thanks to the most thoughtful generosity of our wonderful little village of supporters. Peaches, Jo, Jazzy, JoJo, Ebony, Lily, Luigi, Warrior and Sassy are quite worried, however, as they are the only members of our little herd who may not have “Happy Feet” in time for Halloween.

The average cost per “hooficure” is $40 and these sweet equines would be forever grateful to anyone who helps ensure that they, too, will have ‘Happy Feet’ for Halloween. If you are not in a position to donate at this time, however, we truly understand, but you can still help by sharing this need amongst family and friends. All contributions are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small. Just click on the Donate button below.

Thank you for your love and support!

As we approach the end of October, ‘Farrier Friday’ is once again, upon us. As the majority of our twenty-four equines receive a trim every four to five weeks, with the average cost per hooficure being $40, the farrier bill truly adds up very quickly! We hope to raise $1000 to cover the hooficures for Aaleyah Belle, Beau, CaryLou, Danni, Tobias, Walker, Elka, Luigi, Warrior, Ford, JoJo and Jazzy, to name but a few, and we are confident with your help, we can quickly raise the necessary funds to ensure that each and every member of our little herd will have ‘Happy Feet’ in time for Halloween.

We would be forever grateful to anyone who wishes to help sponsor a hooficure for their favorite Beauty’s Haven horse, mule or donkey, but if you are not in a position to do so at this time, we truly understand. You can still help, however, by spreading the word amongst family and friends. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small. Just click on the ‘Donate’ button below.

Thank you for your love and support!

Sincerely,
Theresa

This has been Mishka’s lucky week! Last weekend, with the help of Jenny and a new volunteer, Juan, we did some work on Mishka’s paddock area. Shadow tried it out and thankfully, it met with his approval! We have quite a bit more work to do on it, which will, hopefully, be completed this weekend.

On Wednesday, Mishka was really good for his hooficure with Tom, one of our farriers, who is so very patient, kind, forgiving and truly wonderful with him. Dr. Julia Simonson was also here in order to discuss and assess Mishka’s feed plan and supplements so as to make some adjustments to his protocol.

On Thursday, Dr. Chris Burnham came out to do some bodywork on Mishka which went really well. Mishka melted with each adjustment! That evening, beneath the most beautiful rainbow, Mishka was all over the place! It’s so nice to see him feeling better while experiencing the joy of just being a horse!

I also discovered another little bird in one of the small waterers this week. We most fortunately, saved him in the nick of time, unlike the baby bird we found last week, who, sadly, did not survive. This little bird, who was a bit larger, fell out of his nest by Mishka’s shelter. We dried him off, warmed him up and returned him to the shelter where he sat in the warm sunshine. When we checked on him about forty-five minutes later, he was gone, so hopefully, he is safely back with his beloved Momma Bird.

We are so very grateful for the shade. When we purchased this property several years ago, there were only five trees by the main road. Over time, we planted over a dozen more, which are all flourishing!

Several members of our beloved herd are awaiting their turn to have “Happy Feet for Easter!”

  • Addi always wants to be the center of everything. She’s beautiful both inside and out.
  • Breakfast seems to have given Willow a bit of extra energy this morning. Please click on the image above to view Willow as she experiences the joy of “just being a horse.”
  • Our golden years girls ~ Jo, Dancer and Valley Girl.

  • Poor Amira has the annoying ‘itchies’ this time of the year.
  • Beau and Tobias wanted to play ‘me first’ this morning. Tobias is one to never shy away from the camera. Or anything else for that matter!
  • Beau and Tobias both ended up getting their fair share of attention.

  • Kalista and Flint are doing great. They both had hooficures on Thursday.

If anyone would like to help our beloved little herd have “Happy Feet for Easter,” it would be so greatly appreciated. There are at least a dozen horses scheduled for the farrier within the next few days so please click on the ‘Donate’ button below if you would like to assist with this need.

Thank you!

Mishka has an abscess in one of his front feet that has been making him quite uncomfortable. I have tried to poultice it but he just won’t cooperate. He’s a big boy and he knows it. He was living with Willow in one of our south most paddocks but I really wanted him up by our house where I can better monitor him. Getting him from way down there to way up here was quite the chore and it took some time, but we did, thankfully, get him moved. We added multiple loads of sand to his paddock so he could lay down in a soft spot. He has Magic on one side of his paddock to keep him company and he recently met Beau who is on the other side.

Dr. Bess was here last week to check his mouth for any issues and most fortunately, there were none. The vet and farrier also arrived at the farm this past Thursday to attend to Mishka and it was a complete success, thanks in part to the assistance provided by Jessica, Bob, and myself. The teamwork was effective, and I am pleased to report that Mishka is showing improvement. Although his feet still need quite a bit of additional work, over time, this progress is a positive development. We have hope! On Thursday, Rachel and Joshua also provided Mishka with a thorough grooming session while Pam most generously supplied extra hay.

On Friday, while preparing Mishka’s evening meal and hay, we discovered that he had escaped from his paddock and was exploring the area around the house, indicating that he is, indeed, feeling better.

We have raised the necessary funds to cover the cost of Mishka’s expenses as well as for future x-rays to be done before the vet and farrier return in two weeks time. Please keep Mishka in your prayers.

On Friday, Stephanie, one of our awesome farriers, came out to trim Peaches, Danni, Magic, and Jazzy. Of course, CaryLou made sure to oversee Jazzy’s hooficure – he’s a hoot! Laura, another of our amazing farriers, came on Sunday afternoon to give Frodo and Bouie their hooficures. As several other members of our herd are scheduled for farrier care this week, we would be forever grateful to anyone who wishes to help sponsor ‘Happy Feet’ for their favorite Beauty’s Haven horse, mule or donkey.

We were blessed on Saturday, to welcome members from the GFWC Williston Woman’s Club who visited the farm to meet the horses, together with new volunteers, Tara and Melissa and her husband, TJ. Pam, another of our wonderful volunteers, was also here as she is on every Saturday. We were also so very blessed to receive a most generous donation from the WWC.

On Sunday morning, we awoke to one of the worst sudden storms we’ve had in quite a while – it almost seemed like a microburst. We are grateful that Cindy and Kristi came out to help with the morning chores, once the rains temporarily stopped. Temperatures continued to plummet throughout the day and night on Sunday bringing extremely cold weather, so blankets will likely stay on for the next couple of days. Thankfully, we do have a blanket for each and every member of our little herd. The porch on the storage building where the feral cats visit is also all set up with heat lamps, which I am certain they truly appreciate. As the terrible rains continued throughout Tuesday, while it was still light, we took Mishka and Willow up to a paddock on higher ground as the big guy’s feet would not do well on wet ground for very long.

Flint continues to do very well and he appears to have a renewed sense of purpose as he carries himself with greater confidence. His eyes are brighter and he’s holding his head higher. He is such a precious and very kind soul. He truly enjoyed meeting our visitors on Saturday and he was literally basking in all the love and attention he received! We are deeply grateful for the support he has received. He still has a ways to go, but his future is looking more promising!

Lastly, during the winter months, we go through many tons of hay on a weekly basis so if anyone would like to contribute to this most important need, it would be so greatly appreciated. Just click on the ‘Donate’ button below.

Thank you, all, for your love and support and please stay safe and warm!

Sincerely,
Theresa

This morning, we trapped another sweet kitten who we have taken to the vet in order to be neutered. Now, we have at least, five more to go! And speaking of felines, yesterday, our sweet Pearle gave us quite the scare after disappearing for the entire day! Thankfully, she returned home late last evening, completely safe and sound.

Match Game Stalled

Our Match Game for farrier care appears to be at a standstill with just $75 still remaining in Matching Funds. JoJo has threatened to have a hissy fit as he did when he was a mere youngster while refusing to wear his fly mask. The images above show just what we are in for when our ‘Drama Prince’ gets mad! So, if anyone would like to help our little herd have ‘Happy Feet’ while doubling your donation at the same time, it would make JoJo and all of us so very happy indeed! The average cost per hooficure is $45, so just click on the ‘Donate’ button below if you would like to help while sparing us all a great deal of ‘JoJo’ drama at the same time!

Sponsors Needed

Mishka and Dancer benefit from Cosequin with MSM and they each need a container. Magic and Amira each need a container of EquiShield SA Powder to help with their ‘itches.’ If anyone would like to sponsor one of these most important supplements, please click on the ‘Donate’ button below.

Thank you in advance for your love and support!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Last Thursday, I took Gabe to stay with Rissie, a volunteer and friend, who adopted Waylon and Rio several months ago. Gabe has asthma, and while we have tried to keep him as comfortable as possible during the course of the summer months, it simply wasn’t enough. As Beauty’s Haven lies parallel to a lime rock road, lime rock dust constantly blows across the farm which greatly affects Gabe’s breathing and overall well-being. As there is little dust at Rissie’s farm, and with temperatures getting cooler, we are hoping and praying that Gabe’s asthma will improve and he regains some much-needed weight.

By Saturday, Gabe had settled nicely into his foster home. He’s so happy to be reunited with his old friends, Rio and Waylon. As Willow, Gabe’s best friend, was now alone, we immediately granted her access to Mishka and Valley Girl’s paddock. As the girls chose to remain together in one paddock, Mishka was now left alone in the paddock next to them. So, we took Walker down to meet Mishka and the boys, thankfully, hit it off! And, while it was a bit of a chess game, as you can see by clicking on the image above, everyone is happy and content!

Happy Feet Match Game

A wonderful friend and supporter has come forth and is offering a Match Game for Happy Feet whereby all donations up to $200 will be matched dollar for dollar! Since the average cost per hooficure is $45, we would be so very appreciative of any donation to assist with this need. So, if you wish to help our beloved little herd, while doubling your donation at the same time, just click on the ‘DONATE’ button below to contribute. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Theresa

As we begin the month of June, we have decided to launch a new program, “Farrier Friday,” in hope that it will inspire our wonderful little village of supporters to help ensure that each and every member of our beloved herd will have “Happy Feet.” Whilst the majority of our equines receive trims every four to five weeks, sweet little Bouie and Frodo must have specialized farrier care every two weeks and as the average cost per hooficure is $45, it really adds up quickly!

Jazzy, Cracker, Shai, Elka, Danni, Tobi, Walker and Gabe are all scheduled to see the farrier this week. We hope and pray that we can raise $395 to cover the cost. We would be forever grateful for any assistance you can offer to help with this need, but if you are not in a position to do so at this time, we truly understand. You can still help, however, by sharing this message amongst family and friends.

All donations are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small. Just click on the “Donate” button below where you may contribute in a variety of ways.

Thank you, all, for your continued love and support.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Rescue horses at Beauty's Haven getting hoof care

We are currently in the midst of our round of hooficures for the month of April. While Shai was a very good girl, Amira simply wanted to photobomb! Waylon was great but we’re still scratching our heads trying to figure out how he let himself back in the barn paddock after I had placed him in the main a few evenings ago. Jazzy was an angel, as always and Bouie was a very good boy! If anyone would like to help Shai, Amira, Waylon, Walker, Ebony, Lily, or any other horse here at the rescue have ‘Happy Feet,’ please click on the ‘DONATE’ button below where you can contribute in a variety of ways.

If you are unable to donate at this time, we truly understand but you can still help by sharing this fundraiser amongst friends and family in hope that they may consider helping the horses as well.

Thank you in advance for your love and support!

Sincerely,
Theresa
