SeAnna’s Dental Day

12/01/16 Wednesday

SeAnna had a dental appointment with Dr. Bess Darrow today. She was a little reluctant to walk on the trailer but it didn’t take long for her to decide it would be ok.

SeAnna is grossly underweight – a body condition score of 1. Sometimes teeth contribute to weight loss but not in this case – she was just not fed. I’m often told that a horse is thin because it’s old. Some older ones may need a special diet but that’s no reason to let them starve. Starving any animal is just plain cruel.

SeAnna has an overbite and needed some adjustments but her mouth wasn’t terribly bad. She had a happy mouth once Dr. Bess was finished with her.

SeAnna is 20 years young and she is an absolute sweetheart. How anyone could just walk away and leave any animal behind to starve is something I’ll never be able to understand. But she’s safe now, a new chapter in her life is underway. Thank you all for caring!

Announcing the winners of our two wonderful raffles! In celebration of the arrival of this beautiful fall season, two wonderful
supporters have joined together to offer a most generous $1,100 Match Game!

All donations up to $1,100 will be matched ~ $5 will become $10, $10 will
become $20 etc. Once we receive $1,100 in this Match Game, the funds will
morph into $2,200! Each and every donation is truly appreciated and please
be assured that no donation is ever considered as being too small.

We currently need $465 more in donations in order to meet the $1,100 goal – then it will morph into $$2,200!

Your votes have done it! We have learned that Theresa’s Eagle Rare Life Award story has made it to the Top 30! Also, five stories from each of the six categories have been chosen and Theresa is now competing with only four others in the “Heroism” category for $5,000. But there’s more!

I’m happy to report that Aaleyah Belle is feeling much better after her gas colic yesterday! Chloe and Aaleyah were both happy to go back down to their paddock this morning. Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers yesterday.

“YOU MAKE A LIFE BY WHAT YOU GIVE”

We are very thankful for all of our volunteers near and far – they are priceless!

Barbara drives over two hours almost every other weekend to come to the farm! Thank you Barbara and Kevin for your love and support!

Betsy Rose did well this weekend despite the heat which was horrid. The injury to her left hip area and leg is slowly improving. We had just taken her out of her sling from a good nap – she was ready to go out and graze. As soon as Barb put on her grazing muzzle, she was gone – totally reenergized!

Jenny gave Spirit a much needed bath. I am so happy that Spirit will soon have a life outside of the little paddock where she is now living. She will be going to her adoptive home in a few days!.

Lois and Mishka having a talk about his bath which he really enjoyed. He’s as sweet as he looks.

When you meet Mishka up close and personal, you then realize how big he really is! We’re all really glad that he’s just a big teddy bear. He towers over Elizabeth and me!

We’re happy to have new volunteers Emma, Sharon, and Karen join our team! Sharon’s husband, Lou, volunteers too!

Time is precious and every minute volunteers give to the rescue is very much appreciated. We couldn’t do what we do without them! Many thanks to all volunteers near and far – you make a difference!

This is Sharon and Karen giving Ruby a much needed bath. I don’t know who gets dirtier – JoJo or Ruby!

BETSY & SAWYER’S EYES & OTHER HAPPENINGS

August 25th…

Betsy Rose and the boys this morning.

Dr. Mangan also examined Betsy Rose’s eyes on the day that he came out to check Penny and Spirit. Betsy has lost vision in her right eye over the course of the past several years while her left eye is showing degenerative changes.

Betsy Rose is so cute and didn’t mind her exam at all.

I wonder what she was whispering in Dr. Mangan’s ear?

“Whatcha see in their Doc?”

Sawyer was good for his eye exam too. Just look at that cute face!

Sawyer’s vision is very compromised due to optic nerve atrophy and his lenses are not well – the aging process impacts eyes too.

Dr. Bess Darrow also worked on Betsy Rose last week.

Betsy lost a tooth which was ready to fall out so Bess just had to help it a little bit.

Little E never fails to let us know when it’s meal time.

EAGLE RARE LIFE – HEROISM

I have nominated Theresa for the Eagle Rare Life Award for Heroism! I’d like to ask for your support in this endeavor by reading her story and then voting for her each day. We Made A Splash & Won $3K!

We won 2nd place in the Make a Splash contest! We had no idea they were offering a 2nd and 3rd place! You all rock – the horses will greatly benefit from the $3000!

Much gratitude to Pet Paradise for sponsoring the contest – it’s very generous! We are a little grassroots organization and struggle, constantly. This helps so much!

Aaleyah Belle – she’ll never outgrow her love of sliming everyone.

Bouie and Frodo – happy ponies!

Classy is another special needs sanctuary horse. She has a tracheotomy and arthritis issues in her front feet. She’s a very sweet girl.

July 7th…

Sisco is recovering nicely from his surgery. He’s still on stall rest but gets hand walked some. He’s going to beat this! There is currently a Match Game going on to help him.

July 8th…

A donkey in the mist! Whiskers is growing little bits each day. I’m sure he wishes he had another donkey to play with but JoJo and Jazzy are not nice to him.

July 9th…

Remember when JoJo got into the dishwasher detergent and had an early morning suds party all by himself? Growing up with JoJo has been a great experience – gotta love him! He was squeaky clean that day!

This morning on Frosty’s Knoll. It was beautiful!

So thankful for the shade trees! Mishka loves standing under it – there is a mister at the top.

The gap is continues to widen between 1st and 2nd place in the #MakeASplash contest. Unfortunately, you have to vote via Facebook. Your vote, once every 24 hours through July 31st is so greatly needed! And what will help even more is if you share amongst family and friends and ask them to vote and share as well.

We CAN do this with your help! We have never been fortunate enough to win anything close to $10,000. Although it is a constant and exhausting struggle trying to raise money and take care of the horses all day long, it is truly worth every moment, knowing that we are making a difference in the life of each and every equine that enters through our gates.
