I got the little mini gelding here this afternoon – hand walked him here from his previous home. It’s hard to believe he is only 3 years young – he looked older before he got some grooming. It was another miserably hot and humid day and he was huffing and puffing and I noticed I didn’t see any sweat – we’ll have to check into this more. I took him into the tack room where it’s got AC and we got to work on him.
He was happy to be rid of the halter that was a bit tight on him. He may have clogged tear ducts.
It took awhile to get the sticky sharp burrs off of him. He was pretty good about standing still for a couple of hours. Terri worked on his tail and I worked on his mane. Bob kept him busy with forage.
Sharp thorns were all through his mane, tail, and forelock. When they’d itch him he’d rub on a fence post and they would scratch him causing irritation.
He felt better after his medicated bath. Most of the unhealthy thick coat is gone and tomorrow we’ll try to clip him again (the clippers broke today).
Rambo will have his feet done soon and Dr. Ryan will come out to check him out, do some blood work, and pull a coggins. When he is ready he will get his vaccinations and be wormed. The dentist will also be checking him out. I was told he has string halt but we’ll have to check into that more too – I didn’t see any symptoms today.
To everyone that is helping this little guy – thank you! It feels good knowing he won’t be baking in the sun another day – especially in a thick and matted coat. Nor does he have to stand in the driving rains we sometimes have. I guess horses get accustomed to living without shelter or shade but I just can’t imagine any animal baking in the hot sun all day long. Well, non-domesticated horses maybe – but not ones that we’ve made dependent up us humans to adequately provide for them.
God bless and have a great night! Rambo thanks you all too!
Sincerely,
Theresa

Halter time for little Domino
“But mommy Theresa I don’t think I want to try it on again!”
“Ok, well, if it means that much to you – go ahead. I’m not happy about it though.”
“Ok, it’s on and it still is too big – I want my own halter! This is Dora’s and it fits her better. Can you take it off now please?”
“Thanks for taking it off Mommy Theresa – I’m going to go talk with Peggy Sue now to see what she thinks of these halter things!”
Little Domino continues to grow into her ears. She really needs some angels to help with her milk replacer which is costing about $100 a week! If anyone would like to help Domino by signing up for a monthly sponsorship for any amount (i.e. $20) please email me at bhfer. Or you can donate through various methods that you can find on our website on the “Donate” page – PayPal, Network for Good, or JustGive. Donations can also be mailed to us at P.O. Box 53, Morriston, FL 32668.
God bless – thank you and have a wonderful day!

Theresa

MoonShadow Pledges
I’m sorry to have to bring this up but we received the vetting costs for MoonShadow. If anyone pledged any amount we would appreciate it if you would go ahead and either send in the donation or call the vet’s office at 352-237-6151.
Any amount is appreciated – it came to over $1000 and all of the charges haven’t been entered into their computer yet – this was just the hospital costs. There were additional expenses when Dr. Ryan treated him here at the farm.
God bless and thank you.
Sincerely,
Theresa

Remember Tiny Tim and Misty?
Another trip down memory lane – only a bit further back to 2008. Some may remember little Tiny Tim. His leg was broken several days before he was brought to our rescue. We did everything possible but he went septic and earned his wings. His short story can be found here: http://old.beautysequinerescue.org/tiny_tim_diary.htm
His mom, Misty, was adopted by a wonderful human family and she is absolutely adored! These were taken about 3 weeks ago.
From all of us here at Beauty’s Haven – thank you! It’s support from others that enables us to help these innocent and loving horses. God bless you all!
Sincerely,
Theresa

Itsuko Update
A trip down memory lane… Some of you may remember Itsuko. She was a TB mare we helped in 2011. Itsuko was born in 1991, had 99 starts in her racing career and earned almost $100K. She had multiple babies. We found her starving and living in an unsafe makeshift backyard pen.
Itsuko the day she came to Beauty’s Haven – June 14th, 2011. She clearly needed help ASAP.
She was skin on bones.
But we saw a lot of light (and gratitude) in her eyes.
This is Itsuko 2 ½ months after rehabilitation – taken August 28th, 2011. What a beautiful mare!
During the first week of September 2011 Itsuko went to Black Beauty Ranch (HSUS) in Texas where she will live a lifetime of carefree living. I think these recent pictures speak for themselves…
It’s really good to share happy updates!

Theresa

MoonShadow – I miss you…
I don’t know what to say – I’m still having a hard time accepting what happened to MoonShadow. I look out my office window and he’s not there grazing. I see Little E standing by the fence by himself – he and MoonShadow were good friends. In the mornings MoonShadow and Little E could be found at the workshop door – an entryway to the feed room. MoonShadow was doing so well and we’d just started looking for a forever home for him.
Colic is such a dreadful thing and for MoonShadow it struck quick and it was very painful. You could see it in his eyes – I felt helpless. At the hospital we learned that his gut had twisted and the prognosis was grim. We released MoonShadow to cross Rainbow Bridge – where on the other side there would never be pain or hunger or hurt again.
When he came here in late April he was skin on bones and depressed. He filled out nicely in less than 2 months. He was happy and content – he knew love and kindness.
I’d like to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. If you have emailed me and I haven’t responded I apologize. I’m moving a bit slow and trying to pick myself up and find some good in what happened. But so far I haven’t found any good about it – only sadness – emptiness. I know we shouldn’t question why God makes the choices he does but still – I want to scream and ask “WHY???” MoonShadow had come so far.
We love you MoonShadow – until we meet again fly with angel wings and know that you are greatly missed. I’m sorry, my friend, that I couldn’t take away the pain. I’m sorry we didn’t get to find you that perfect forever home. I’m sorry I can’t reach out and touch your beautiful face. But I am very grateful for the time that you were with us – you are loved by many.
Our MoonShadow runs with his friend Twilight now and the rest of the heavenly herd.
Our friend Greg A. did this beautiful and touching artwork – thank you Greg.
I love you MoonShadow – always.
Sincerely,
Theresa
