BHFER Other Update 07/31/12

It’s been really busy – as usual. It’s either been very hot or it’s rained. Today it was extremely hot but then it rained and there was a big drop in temperature. So much so that Little E shivered! We brought him in and gave him a warm mash which he loved.

We had extra much needed help over the weekend – especially on Saturday. Saddles got cleaned up – so did horses and pictures were taken in order for us to update the website and adoption ads.

So proud of Magic – he’s much better around most people. He’s not even worried about hats any longer. J

Silver Belle was one of many that got a hooficure on Sunday.

Bella did great and seemed to really appreciate hers.

Little Indy also got a hooficure. We appreciate our podiatrists and the handlers that donate their time to help!

Spirit is doing very well. We did get an answer back from Dr. Porter – there isn’t anything we can do to help her eyesight to improve. The right eye is pretty much history. We don’t know what caused the injury – could be from recurrent Uveitis or other injury. There isn’t anything that can be done with the scarring and damage already done. But we can hopefully prevent the eye from getting any worse. Isn’t she beautiful? She’s soooo trusting. Her injuries are healing nicely – the bone is no longer exposed at her chest injury or on her face. She’s a love bug – always asking for hugs and scratches.

Marilyn with Starbuck – look how much better he is standing!

Melissa getting ready to hop on Lacey with baby Dora watching. Lacey did great, especially considering she is a bit out of shape. George got up on Lady Jane and she did good too. It was dark by then – no pictures. Will have to take some maybe this coming weekend.

Popper likes to get in the middle of everything – including lunch!

Nash is very happy at his new home. He has two mares, lots of shade and grass, and a human that will spoil him rotten! He’s only 10 miles away.

Ruby has some visitors today.

Dr. Ryan was out to pull blood work on a couple of horses, pull coggins on some, and to examine the donkey and her baby.

I have to say that golf carts sure do come in handy here at the farm!

Both mom (Penelope) and baby (Penny) were very cooperative today.

Penelope is very thin except for her low belly. If she didn’t have a baby you’d think she was about to. I was told she’s 13 years old and has had more babies than you can count on both hands. Penny is her last and final.

Little Penny was a wonderful patient!

Finding the vein on a thin baby donkey wasn’t as easy as we’d liked for it to have been.

Penny getting a few kisses on the nose.

“One more kiss… please?”

We are still looking for sponsors to help with Penelope and Penny’s vetting today and with getting several mini’s teeth done tomorrow. Penelope will also be checked by Dr. Bess. Not sure she’s up for dental work yet – I think I’d like to give her some time to get stronger first. We should have blood work back tomorrow morning. If anyone would like to call a donation in directly to the vet’s office the number is 352-237-6151.

I’ve run out of energy and need to get to bed. Lots of work in the office and at the barn tomorrow – more hooficures are being done and the dentist is coming. Have a good night everyone and thank you for continued support.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Spirit the blind paint mare looks wonderful!! I’m so happy she is doing better! It still makes me sick to know she was at the end of my road and i had no idea she was in that shape!!! I’m so happy she is safe and well cared for and getting the help she needs. Thank you for saving her.!
