Blackie and Lace had hooficures this morning and went home with Pam for the night. They are going to their new home in the morning which is only about an hour away.  I’m so very happy that they were adopted together – they had been BFF for 15+ years.

Solace is doing ok – maybe too ok.  He took off this evening at the barn – running and we’re not sure why.  He slipped and fell but got back up and kept going.  I hope he’s not sore tomorrow.  I would be.  He’s tucked into his stall for the night.

I ate a donut hole this morning with some milk and seemed to feel a bit better after.  But as I got to moving around the nausea started all over again.  I know I need to drink more but I have no desire to – no desire to eat either.  But I did try having a little soup with crackers tonight but it didn’t go very well.

Tomorrow is a new day and it will be busy – some are getting hooficures and visitors are coming.  I don’t want to give what I have to anyone!  Back to bed now.  Would anyone like to sponsor a hooficure?  If so, please LMK.  Thanks everyone – have a good night.

Sincerely,
Theresa

I apologize I haven’t gotten any updates out this week – I’ve been sick since Monday with the stomach flu.  Just when I try to get going again I find out my body isn’t ready and it’s been very frustrating.  But I want to give a quick update on Solace while I can.  We’ve had beautiful weather this week, until today, when it took a drastic turn.

In the early afternoon I ventured down to the barn for the first time and peeked in on Solace – he was down in his stall.  He’d been doing so well – the good weather has been helping him, I’m sure.  I wished all week that I could have spent some time outside with him. When I went down this afternoon I noticed something wasn’t right.  I sat and watched him for a few minutes and it was obvious his tummy was bothering him and heart rate respiration were up.  He had been passing poop but he was gassy.  I called Dr. Ryan and gave Solace medications as instructed.

This evening Solace is tucked in his stall and looking better.  The determined look in his eyes always amazes me.  Bob went to the store this afternoon and for the first time in awhile so the humans cupboard isn’t bare.  I can’t eat – just the thought of it is nauseating and the headache won’t go away.  But the chills have stopped, I think.  I wanted to lose weight but maybe this isn’t the right way to do it!

Hopefully Solace’s blood test results will continue to show improvement. I’ll post when I know more. Have a good night everyone.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Test results came back – values are slightly better!  I’ll take “slightly better” over “worse” anytime!  Solace so very much enjoyed the bath our volunteers, Marie and Bob, gave him today.  Please continue to keep Solace in your prayers!

A recap of the last few days…

The pregnant mini mare’s were seen by Dr. Ryan – they were not very good patients but they survived. J They weren’t the best for Fabio either but he was very patient with them and they learned to calm and trust – I hope they remember for next time. Look at that foot!

The weather has been beautiful – it would be really great if it were like this all year around! Joshua (our son) hopped up on Genesis for a short ride while I hopped on Cisco. Would have liked to have ridden all day!

Volunteers Tony and Michelle got up on Cisco for a short walk. They had a blast! I love to see the horses bring about smiles! Cisco is ready for a home.

Peggy Sue is got a good grooming from Sue Ann (she was visiting from TN). Penelope and Penny decided they wanted attention too and of course they got it!

Kylie and Roxanne gave Rayo a bath which he needed – he was filthy! It was likely his first one in at least 2 years. He was a jewel about it – a very nice boy.

Kylie rode Morgan LaFaye to see how she is doing under saddle and, as expected, she is still great! Solace got a glimpse of this pretty mare and decided he had to check her out. They are now friends. Morgan is a darling little mare that is ready for a home.

Helping the mini’s to get used to the barn and to being handled. This was all new to them. The younger one was afraid of the barn – especially being in it! We gave them both time in and out of the stall – together and apart. Here, the 20 yr old is in a stall with Barbara and the younger one is looking in making sure all is well. They are pretty bonded which was to be expected.

Then we got to work on getting the tangles and stickers out of their manes and coats. Some sharp stickers were buried under their coats and they poked them when they walked – poor girls. We still need to get some under their bellies near their backend. They are not comfortable being handled back there yet but we are working on it. We didn’t want them to go into overload yesterday with too many new things. But it’s very important that we get them used to being handled before the babies come. They are due in March. This is the younger one – about 10 years old. She has a name now – meet Ariel.

And then the older mare got groomed – more tangles and more burrs. She seemed depressed when she arrived but I’m happy to report she is brighter by the hour it seems. I’ve been told that ladybugs are good luck – this mare had a couple of them in her mane! I named her Amy – she is 20 years old. The vet palpated both mares and said we need to be watchful of Amy because she may have issues – let’s pray that isn’t the case. One thing is for sure – Amy and Ariel will not be bred again.

Yesterday day our daughter, Katie, and her friend rode a little bit at sunset.

Nevada got a much needed bath today which he seemed to really enjoy. He’s a good boy. The weather was nice – I saw an opportunity and couldn’t resist! I saddled him up and went for a short ride – I’m glad I did! It was his first ride here and he did great!

Solace is doing ok. We’ll know more after his next blood test tomorrow. His appetite went down yesterday but seemed better today. He’s bright and seems pretty content. Let’s pray the internal bleeding has resolved. He’s quite amazing. Truly amazing. And very much loved.

Bouie and Frodo are doing great – they’re as funny as ever to watch.

And here is Little E grazing with Penny, Penelope, and Solace this afternoon.

Penny and Penelope are so cute! Penny is growing so fast!

Hollie is doing well – she’s put on needed weight and is muscling up too but her breathing has been labored with the recent weather – as has Sunset’s. We don’t have much shade but we can usually find Sunset standing under one of our few shade trees near a waterer most of the time. Sunset’s adoption application is expected to be processed this coming week – her potential adoptive home has much more shade than we do. She is a beautiful mare – floppy ears and all! This is Holly on the left and Sunset on the right.

Starbuck and Dora are settled in at their new home – I can’t tell you how happy I am that they are staying together. We raised these two babies and their adoption is bittersweet. To those that helped sponsor Starbuck and/or Dora we thank you! We’ll provide updates on them – their adoptive mom knows they have many people that care about them. We would like to ask their sponsors to please consider sponsoring another here. There are some horses that have little to no sponsorships. If you would like to pick another to help please email us at bhfer and let us know. God bless and thank you!

To say it’s been busy here would be an understatement! We are very thankful for the warmer temperatures – it’s helped Solace, I’m sure. I know it’s helped me! I want to thank everyone for your continued support – without you we couldn’t do what we do. We would like to ask that you spread the word about our many horses that are available for adoption. In order to help another we need to find homes for ones that are ready. Please visit our Adoption page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/281532335275853/?ref=ts&fref=ts. Our website is not up to date but we are slowly working on it – there will be a new website soon with info that is kept up to date. We just need to make the time to get it done. Our new Webmaster has been very patient with us – he’s done a great job but we’re the toad in the road. L

Have a blessed week everyone – I’ll update on Solace again tomorrow evening. Again, thank you for your continued support! If anyone would like to make a tax deductible donation you can do so via our website at https://www.bhfer.org/oldsite/donate.html. Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small.

Sincerely,
Theresa

It’s not even 10 am and 2 issues already this am. Let’s see if we can fix one ASAP. Remember Rayo? The gray dappled TB we picked up a couple of weeks ago that had a home and was supposed to be picked up tomorrow? Well – the adopter just backed out for reasons beyond her control.

These two are available and are very nice horses – just beautiful! The one on the right is Silver Belle. She is 4 years old – she is a TB with a QH mind. Silver Belle came to us less than 6 months old and is very special to us. The horse on the right is Rayo – he is a rescue we had no room for but couldn’t leave him where he was – we thought he would only be with us for a couple of weeks. He is an OTTB born in 2007. He was to be picked up tomorrow but is now available. These two horses have the same sire. The adoption fees will be waived – we would just ask an approved adopter to make a donation of their choice to help us in our mission to help others. We just took in 2 pregnant mini mares and need to free up some resources and room. Please help us find homes for these nice horses so we will be able to help others in need.

So – anyone interested? We need him, or another here, to find a home SOON. We had not intended for Rayo to be here long. If anyone is interested please contact Melissa at bhfer.melissa@hotmail.com. We have visitors at the farm today and I will be unavailable.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
Theresa
