BHFER December 20th -21st Update

A lady contacted us months ago about a gelding she wanted to rehome. We were full at the time and after some discussion, she decided to try to keep him. She would cut corners and try to find a way. Well, she contacted us again and said her situation had become worse – the horse needed basic care that she could just provide. We just couldn’t say no. God does open doors – Ceri and Garan will be leaving for their new home in a few days. Amy will be going to her new home right after Christmas. So, meet Magnum, a beautiful Andalusian cross gelding.

Magnum needs some rehab – he’s a bit underweight, his teeth need to be done, his feet need to be trimmed, etc. He has many sores that we are treating on the sides of his face, on his legs, back, and especially under his stomach. It’s hard to see them because of his coat but the really big one under his tummy is very visible – it’s like one long 14” L x 6” W open sore. We are very thankful that the owner didn’t wait until he was near the condition that Betsy Rose was in to reach out for help. This is Magnum’s friend, Pistol. He’s an almost 2 year old mini donkey that is adorable. He’s still intact but we’ll be fixing that soon.

Pistol is very vocal – when he sings, Matilda sings along with him. It’s adorable! Merry Christmas Magnum and Pistol! Welcome to Beauty’s Haven!

Would anyone like to help with either of them? Magnum has been vetted and blood work has been done. A onetime, or recurrent monthly donation, of any amount would be appreciated. Our PayPal is theresa. Other ways to donate can be found on the "Donate" page of our website at https://www.bhfer.org/oldsite/donate.cfm. Thank you.

I took Betsy Rose for a hand walk stroll around the main paddock yesterday morning – she really enjoyed it! Yes, she was brushed/groomed before our adventure but the weather is nuts. Winter coats grow overnight and then try to shed out the next day.

Betsy Rose – she defied all odds. We love her to no end!

Santana and Bronson went out to play in the main paddock, too. Santana has pretty much claimed Bronson as his herd – he won’t let him out of his reach.

Saturday 22nd:

Marie Riordan arranged a get together today for our awesome volunteers – thank you Marie!

"Betsy Rose the good thing about living at the barn is that we get more treats when the humans get together! Did you see the cake? Pam made it and you are on it! I mean, a likeness of you was on it. And I saw a big bag of carrots go by too!" Betsy Rose replied “I’m going to go check it out Cookie. No worries – if there are treats we’ll get some!"

Merry Christmas everyone! This is the cake that Pam Zarem made for today’s get together! Yes, that’s Betsy Rose!

Whoever knew that Betsy Rose and Santa are really great friends? They go way back according to Betsy Rose!

Dr. Julia Simonson stopped by to check on Mollie, Betsy Rose, and Magnum, and to just visit for awhile. She flushed out Donovan’s tear ducts. Oh, she did hop on him for a bit – he’s always a good boy.

Susan Moon and Kim Foster and her daughters gave Victoria a bath today. She’s doing very well also.

Bob and I both got to sit for a few minutes today. I felt something tickling my ear and found Betsy Rose napping behind me. We truly appreciate everyone who came out today – and to those who couldn’t make it – we missed you and you were in our thoughts! It certainly doesn’t feel like winter here – the temps are near 80 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. Some good news – we are actually seeing some of the grass seed that was spread coming up!

Magnum got his much needed hooficure today. It took awhile but he was a good boy. His blood work came back and the results are pretty much what we see in most malnourishment cases – there are a lot of low values. It will just take some time but he will come around.

Donovan, Matilda, and Mollie. No words are needed – the photo says it all.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Sincerely,

Theresa
