Bella, Starbuck, and the others…

The baby’s name is Starbuck. It’s been on the tip of my tongue since I first saw him – I don’t know why. I waited for another name to come to me but it didn’t – Starbuck is it!

Starbuck was still having a tough time going poop again today. I was going to run him some fluids after his mom got a bath but that’s when he got his catheter out.

Dr. Tanya came back out and oiled him and put in another catheter – he’ll be getting antibiotics and other meds for a few more days. It is possible he has a meconium impaction which would not be a good thing. He may have gone without needed care after he was born for too long. I hope and pray that isn’t the case.

Starbuck’s legs deviate outwards and he is knees are actually bending backwards – more than he was yesterday. We don’t know if he was born early, late, etc. We do know that Dr. Ryan will be out tomorrow – we’ll likely get x-rays done.

Bella looks better – even if she didn’t get a very good bath.

The other horses that were at the same place that Bella and Starbuck came from were all picked up today – I didn’t want any of them to be left behind alone – they were family. The mini with the ruptured eye was picked up from the hospital this evening and is doing better. She tried to colic at the hospital after the surgery. She’s gone to her new home – thank you Leisha! The stud was picked up by Pam this evening and delivered to his new home (thank you Marilyn!). At the same time he was picked up, Dawn (Faith Equine Rescue) picked up the coming 3 yr old filly – this filly may be pregnant by her sire – a vet will be examining her tomorrow.

God bless everyone that helped us to pull this all together and that has helped in any way. Please – keep all of them in your prayers.

Sincerely,
Theresa

I have seen PVC pipe split open and put on newbies who have problems with crooked legs. Might this be a solution for Starbuck? I hope something can be done soon so he can recover from these weak legs.
