The Weekend – Gypsy and Others
A quick update from the weekend…
Amy got a makeover yesterday! Wanda and her daughter, Martina, did a great job clipping her and Amy behaved very well! She looks like a different horse! And she is much more comfortable. She knows she’s styling… And we saw the baby squirming!
Amy is a cutie pretending to be a Gypsy Vanner! Ariel is still shy but is getting better. We were told that both mares were bred last April. We’ll have mini babies at the Celebration of Life this year which is scheduled for April 20th!
Sisco was moved to a paddock with Genesis and Cisco – he has already let them know he is in charge!
Beautiful mares that are near and dear to me – Beauty, Princess, and Sunset is in the background.
Sachet, Noelle, Baby Girl, and Baby Ray is in the background munching on hay. Sachet and Noelle will be leaving for their new home together soon. I’m so happy that they get to stay together!
Sunset has a potential home! It would be a wonderful home and she’d get lots of attention and love – I’m so excited for her! She is just a doll!
Remember Starlight? She is adored and is one happy horse! This is what we want for all of them – a life of happiness with lots of TLC!
Genesis had visitors today which he loved – he adores human attention. When I told Grace she could get up on him she seemed surprised. He is a big teddy bear! Once Grace was up there, well, her smile says it all! She sat on him and hugged him and smiled and then hugged him some more. I think he may have a new home.
Gypsy is doing really well. We had some “play” times throughout the day and she didn’t misbehave at all. I groomed her and picked up and cleaned her front feet. I didn’t attempt her back feet yet – I was told they haven’t been trimmed because she will kick and I really wanted to end the day on a good note (for both of us). We’ll get to them at the right time. I was also warned to be careful when I take the halter off of her because she will turn and take off. This hasn’t happened yet. She just stands there looking like “what, we’re done already?” I’d walk away and she would follow. She is very attentive to what is going on around her and seems a bit insecure at times. Those long and pretty ears move all around constantly. Her eyes are soft and she seems content. And she is pretty vocal. Tomorrow we’ll do a little more as long as the weather is nice.
In less than 24 hours, with support from others, we made a difference to this beautiful soul. Gypsy will never be beaten with a 2 x 4 again. She will never again be at risk of being fed to big cats. She will not be put into any situation that would put her in harm’s way. I think she may have been pushed too hard and too fast. And I think that some of the things she did, well, she did them in self defense. It never ceases to amaze me how forgiving horses are. I think she is willing to start over again. We may have some bumps along the way but with time, patience, love, consistency, listening, and whispering – I think she will be ok.
Silver Belle and Rayo will be leaving to go to their new home together next week. We have many adoptions lined up – it’s going to be a tough few weeks as we see them go. But this is what we do and they all deserve their own human family. And it’s only because of help from others that we have been able to give these horses another chance – God bless you all!
Sincerely,
Theresa
