Theresa-fracture
[clear]
On Monday, Theresa was accidentally kicked by one of the horses and she was knocked to the ground. She was immediately taken to the ER where x-rays of her right leg, hip, and hand were performed. Thankfully, no fracture occurred in either her hip or leg.  A CT scan, unfortunately, revealed a fracture of the third metacarpal bone on her right hand.

On Tuesday, Theresa went to the Orthopedic Institute for further evaluation. She will be in a cast for six to eight weeks and thankfully, will not require surgery. Her leg has a sizable bruise as well as quite a bit of swelling and is truly painful to say the least.

While waiting at The Orthopedic Institute, Theresa picked up a magazine and what did she see……Beauty‘s Haven, featured in an article about Mocha and Daisy with their adoptive mom – Emily Pridgen!  Needless to say, even though she was in extreme pain, this truly made Theresa’s day!

Theresa, despite her own injuries, is extremely worried about sweet Tinsel. While some hock swelling has gone down, Tinsel is once again, reluctant to put weight on that leg. She was doing much better until Sunday, and then for some unknown reason, she has taken a step backward in her recovery process.

Our Match Game for Tinsel is still in progress with $373 remaining in available funds so if anyone would like to assist with her medication/veterinary needs, it would be so greatly appreciated. Just yesterday, we had to purchase another medication which cost $400.  If you are unable to contribute, we ask that you please support Tinsel by simply sharing this email amongst family and friends. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed toward Tinsel’s Medication needs.  We are so truly blessed to have your love and support.

Contributions may be made via various means on our website at www.bhfer.org or via our PayPal address: bhfer@earthlink.net. If donating via PayPal, please designate your donation to: ‘Tinsel’s Meds.’ If you select the tab, ‘Send Money to Friends or Family,’ no fees will be deducted from your contribution. You may also contribute via the DONATE NOW button located at the bottom of this email. Please be assured that all donations are greatly appreciated and no amount is ever considered as being too small.  Thank you!

Please keep both Theresa and Tinsel in your thoughts and prayers.

Zahara

Thoroughbred • Black • Mare • 15 Hh • DOB 2007

Zahara is a stunning black Thoroughbred mare that was born in 2007. We were told that her original owners gave her to someone years ago. In 2012, while at that home, she sustained a neck injury. Dr. Michael Porter took x-rays which indicated a fracture at C-4/5. In 2014, her original owners took her back. Not long thereafter, the owners called Dr. Porter because Zahara was looking poorly. Dr. Porter found her to be very thin and depressed. He called us and asked the question – could we take her?  Of course we would!

Zahara was transported to the rescue where she settled in nicely.  She was vetted, her teeth were done, and her feet were trimmed.  Her rehabilitation program went well. She just needed a proper diet – there was no medical condition that led to her being skin on bones.  Dr. Porter x-rayed her neck to compare it to the original injury and he was amazed at how well it had healed!  She’s a very pleasant and honest mare.  While Zahara will never race, jump, or pull a cart or buggy, she will make a nice trail or companion horse.

Zahara has not as yet been started under saddle. She will require an experienced horse person with a background of training horses using natural horsemanship techniques.  A training plan will be included in the adoption contract. If interested, please take time to read our adoption procedures/requirements information, that can be found on our Adoption Page.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MORRISTON, Florida, October 9, 2017

[dropcaps] B [/dropcaps] eauty’s Haven Farm and Equine Rescue, Inc., is honored to be the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Best Friends Animal Society. This award will greatly assist the rescue with the mounting veterinary fees of their 32 plus equines, many of which have special needs.

As the recipient of this award, Beauty’s Haven can continue its most important mission of raising public awareness about the standards of care that are necessary to keep horses safe and healthy while providing assistance, when possible, to horse owners experiencing a short period of financial hardship. Beauty’s Haven also provides information to members of the community, regarding the steps that must be taken when one encounters an equine that is being abused or neglected. As Theresa Batchelor, President and Co-Founder of Beauty’s Haven so aptly states:

“Horses are majestic creatures that have helped mankind for thousands of years – they give so much and ask for so little. They help mend hearts, they forgive and love unconditionally.”

At Beauty’s Haven, horses that have been neglected, abused, and/or abandoned are given a second chance at life, a life without pain and worry, a life with dignity and respect. Equines that are no longer needed, wanted or are useful to their owners are welcomed at the rescue with the goal of eventually placing them in loving, forever homes. Working together with other organizations, Beauty’s Haven tries to find placement for as many equines as possible before they end up in the slaughter pipeline where they would be at a high risk of being sold to kill buyers, then trucked across the borders to Canada and Mexico, where they would be brutally slaughtered for human consumption.

Beauty’s Haven offers sanctuary to a limited number of horses with special needs regardless of age or breed. The rescue has taken in babies as young as two hours old, pregnant mares and senior horses – the oldest rescue was 43 years old! Oftentimes, Beauty’s Haven accepts equines into their program that other rescue organizations may refuse, due to the time consuming and/or costly rehabilitation needs of the horse. Quality of life is always a determining factor in deciding the future of each horse. Beauty’s Haven is pro-life and never is an equine euthanized to make room for another.

Beauty’s Haven has an excellent care team that includes professionals in both traditional and holistic medicine, dentistry and equine podiatry. A horse will be humanely euthanized, however, when they appear to be experiencing more pain than pleasure, are terminally ill or critically injured and all courses of treatment have been thoroughly explored. An animal is never permitted to suffer. Beauty’s Haven has accepted horses with birth defects, broken bones, mutilations, cancer, blindness, COPD and Cushing’s disease as well as those that were starved and extremely emaciated and had other serious diseases. Other animals in need such as dogs, cats, pigs, birds, goats, a lamb and a baby calf have also found sanctuary at Beauty’s Haven, ‘Where Life Begins, Again!’

Eagle Rare 2018

Jeanne has once again nominated me for the Eagle Rare Life Award for Heroism! Winning this could make a HUGE difference in our mission of helping horses (and donkeys, cats, cows, etc.)! We love what we do, but we want to do more and we can, with help! We want to get more community involvement in order to make a difference to more horses AND humans. We are determined to find a way! There are three entries in the ‘Heroism’ category so we have a good chance to win. We are asking that you vote daily through December 5, 2017! It’s so easy and it doesn’t cost a thing – it takes less than a minute to go to this link and cast your vote!

Also, it would make a world of difference if you could share this out through social media as well as amongst family and friends, and ask them to vote daily and share as well. We can do this!

“Don’t give up just because of the obstacles. Regardless of what obstacles face you, just keep going! Go through, go around, or go over – but never give up!”

Thank you all so much!
