Fancy and Rosita
[clear]
I want to share some wonderful news! I have been praying for the perfect home for Fancy and Rosita for awhile now. While I adore both girls, they deserve their very own family who will love them and be there for them 24/7/365 days a year. Prayers were answered, and last night, Fancy and Rosita arrived at their forever home with Bernice and John who have been friends and volunteers since 2008.

These girls hit the jackpot and just started a new chapter in the rest of their lives. I couldn’t be more happy for them and their humans. I’m so proud of Fancy and Rosita – I know they will give their new family much love and many smiles. Together, they will make wonderful memories which will last forever. I’m going to miss them so much as will our family of volunteers. I’ve cried a river these past few days – a mixture of happy and sad tears. It’s always so bittersweet, but this is what we do. It may take longer to find the right home for each horse, but it has to be a perfect match. Adoption is meant to be forever, but if there’s an unexpected, major life change and the horse(s) need to come back, we are here for them. These horses are always family, a family which expands with every adoption. #Believe…

Getting Fancy and Rosita ready the evening before they were scheduled to leave was bittersweet. But I appreciate the extra time that I had with them that day.

Some of you may remember Joy? She is a Palomino mare that we took in from the July 2010 Naples case. She was pregnant and lost her baby due to dystocia – we almost lost Joy. It was horrible and I never want to experience anything like that again. Joy is doing great and her human mom adores her! This is Joy with her new best friend Jon Jon.

Joy

Penny had been pestering the grown up horses to run and play but none wanted to – she’s so funny to watch. On Saturday it was really great to see Penny and Roxy playing – Roxy volunteers on Saturdays with her dad. I think Roxy wore Penny out!

Genesis

Genesis is doing great.

Sunset is adorable. We are still looking for a home for her – she does not do well here with so much sun and the dust that blows off the lime rock road is horrible. Temps go up and her breathing goes up. Please spread the word on her and help us to find her a home. We thought she was only going to be here for a short time for rehab (which is done) but the home didn’t work out. She needs sponsors to help pay for her care. Sunset is a retired PMU mare that was forced to endure a horrible job so humans could benefit. Here is a link to a video about the PMU industry – you can see the kind of life she lived is just horrible (and she’s had many babies, I’m sure). Lily trying to fly! Here is a link to a video of Bouie, Frodo, Lily, and Ebony playing “Tag – you’re it!” They are hysterical!

And here is Armani – as striking as ever! He’s a big boy and his human mom says “he is not only loved – he is adored!”

Sammi and Joy – Joy isn’t a baby anymore! These two are very lucky girls – they have a wonderful human mom that loves them very much! Here is a link to a video of them when Joy was just a couple of days old. [youtube http://youtube.com/w/?v=vrCu9m4XqKE] Enjoy!

And here is Hollie – all settle in at her new home. She is greatly missed here but it makes me feel really good knowing that she will be much more comfortable there – the heat here just did not agree with her. Her human mom says she’s a keeper and that her eyes are truly a pathway to her soul. I agree 100%! To think that her previous owners were still driving and riding her in the condition she was in before we picked her up is just sickening. We’ll update now and then on how she is doing. To everyone that cared about, and helped her, thank you.

Hollie

Seeing the horses in their new homes, reading their updates, it just helps so much. There is a lot of heartbreak in what we do but the successes are so uplifting and they remind us that we do make a difference. While we can’t save them all we do our best and help as many as we can. And we are very blessed to have the opportunity to help the horses – and if we didn’t have the support from others it wouldn’t be possible.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been pretty busy here. I am behind on emails so please, if you have written to me and I haven’t responded, I apologize but I hope to get to them in the next couple of days. Thank you for caring and for your continued support! We are still in need of flymasks (double Velcro latch), flyspray, detangler, and a few other items. We are also looking for sponsors for hay – just $13.30 will sponsor a bale of hay. In this load of hay there are 41 bales in a ton. If we can get enough sponsors for a ton we will then get $10 off which would almost buy one more bale. Every bit helps! If anyone would like to help we would appreciate it. Donations are tax deductible and very much appreciated!

Theresa

Just a few pictures from today…

Solace visiting with Jessie today.  Jessie and her husband, Ron, are visiting from NJ.  Solace is now munching on hay in his stall with his blanket on.  It’s going to get cold tonight.  We continue to pray that he continues to improve.  Sometimes the effects of starvation and neglect are not known until long after recovery has begun.

Ruby getting her share of carrots.

Penelope got her share too.

This is Rosita with Andrew – a new volunteer that is a student at UF!

We ask everyone to PLEASE vote daily for Beauty’s Haven in the Shelter Challenge and spread the word so that we might win this time around! http://theanimalrescuesite.greatergood.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3&link=ctg_ars_shelterchallenge_from_shelterchallenge

November 24th, 2012…

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was beautiful here. But the nice day closed with temperatures down into the high 30’s yesterday morning. The babies and seniors were blanketed and comfortable. We’ll have to break out a few more blankets though – looks like it’s going down to freezing tonight. Brrrr!!

There’s been so much going on – it’s always busy. I wanted to make time tonight to update on some things. Mostly good things. Morning Star was adopted by his foster family which is simply awesome! I was so happy when Chris told me they wanted to adopt him! Morning Star is a very talented boy and there is never a dull moment with him! Jenna and her dad, Chris, come to help out a couple of days each month and boy it sure helps to have many hands!

Just like her momma, Dora has a special scratching spot.

So does Starbuck.

Cisco wrapped up nice and warm. He didn’t mind that the blanket is pink. He’s just that way – happy go lucky. He’s looking for a forever home.

Beauty and the boys – Genesis and Cisco. And Beauty standing for me to trace her foot so I could put some pads into her slippers – she was sore in the front. She seems to be better today.

Dr. Cogswell working chiropractic on Peaches a couple of weeks ago. And then she worked on Beauty. Dr. Cogswell comes through the Ocala area once a month and does a great job! Dr. Ryan recommended her and I do too! Her website is www.cogswellvet.com.

Lace is ready for a forever home. She’s a sweet girl. Rides nicely but I’ve only ridden her at a walk/trot.

Penny… determined to find a few crumbs. She’s become quite independent and is still as cute as she could possibly be!

Baby Girl – still gorgeous! She munched on some hay until it was her turn for a hooficure. She loves scratches!

And this is Jenny being silly with Penelope on Thanksgiving!

Princess – still a pretty girl. This is Laura doing a hooficure and Kim holding which we appreciate very much!

How the farm looks from up on Cisco and Genesis. Me on Cisco and Kylie on Genesis – it is seldom we get these little pleasures.

Cookie getting a little extra attention from a volunteer – one of the UF students.

Little Rambo now lives with a mini donkey (named Casper) that wasn’t treated very well before going to his current home. Rambo is helping Casper to learn that all humans are not bad. This is Casper getting his first hooficure since he’s been at his new home. Rambo is outside watching. Little Casper did well.

I took some time to take a short ride on Genesis on Thanksgiving Day. And I was actually able to talk Bob into going for a short walk around the paddock! I visited with all of the horses on Thanksgiving and they all got carrots. Both human kids were home and it was just a beautiful day!

Spirit is doing well. She is adjusting to her new surroundings and has made new friends! Her new human mom is doing a great job with her!

Some more good news – Rosita will be leaving for her new home late next week! Some other news – we have been asked to help a very thin Racking horse mare that needs a safe place to land. We would like to make her our holiday save. Even with somewhat of a winter coat you can see how thin she is. Even thin, she is hooked up and driving. We need help with sponsors – she needs about $500 her first month and then about $300 each month after for at least 6 months. Would anyone like to help her? If anyone can help us to help the mare please email me. Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Please help us to give her a new start in life – I know she would appreciate a full tummy and warm blanket for the holiday season.

We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Don’t forget about our fundraiser – the beautiful drawing of Ambrosia – current bid is $150. God bless and thank you for your continued support! And again, please help us to help this mare.

Theresa
