It is so hard to believe that summer is fast approaching, which of course, brings yet another round of hooficures. Almost all members of our beloved little herd of 30 are due for a hooficure. Farrier visits have been scheduled beginning yesterday, June 9th, and will be ongoing until next Friday, June 16th, in hope that each of our ‘Velvet Nosers’ will have ‘Happy Feet’ by the very first day of summer.

While donations toward basic needs such as farrier care and hay may seem trivial to many, they are vitally important to the overall health and well-being of our equines. Please be assured that each and every dollar designated for these needs brings us great relief and an inordinate amount of gratitude.

The average cost per hooficure is $45. If you would like to sponsor or donate any amount toward a hooficure, you may forward your contribution simply by clicking on the ‘DONATE’ button below. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small.

Thank you, all, for your love & support!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Let’s Fill Up the Hay Trailer!

The weekend also means that it is time for yet another hay run. Although we do have grass, we must still continue to feed hay to our ‘Velvet Nosers’ in order to keep our grassy areas from turning into sand paddocks.

We estimate this week’s purchase will be approximately $1,000, so if you would like to contribute toward this need, both horses and humans alike would be forever grateful. Just click on the donate button included on this post. All donations are greatly appreciated and no amount is ever to small.

I feel so badly posting each week stating that we need to make yet another hay run. Many of you are undoubtedly growing weary of these weekly requests as well, but the truth is our horses not only need to eat, they need to keep warm during these unusual periods of frigid temperatures here in Florida.

As many of you know, the cost of hay has risen significantly since last year creating much concern for equine rescues across the country who depend upon contributions in order to keep their beloved herds properly fed. Here in Florida, the price per ton of Orchard 3 String has risen to $779; the price per ton of Orchard 2 String has risen to $685; and the price per ton of Half Pasture bales of Alfalfa has risen to $638.

With our hay runs averaging approximately $1200 per week, we have decided to have one big fundraiser with the goal of raising enough funds to keep the hay trailer full through the month of March, when the grass will once again begin to grow.

We do realize that fundraisers for hay and farrier fees are certainly not as exciting as rescuing an equine or other precious being in need, but saving the animal is just one small part of the equation. Once that animal arrives at the rescue, the cost of their initial and ongoing care rises exponentially and hence, the reason why sponsorship is so imperative.

Our goal is to raise $10,800 which will greatly alleviate our stress knowing that the funding is there to cover our weekly hay runs.

If you are in a position to donate, you can do so here on our website or on *Facebook (just click on one of the buttons below). All donations are so greatly appreciated and no amount is ever too small. If you are unable to contribute at this time, you can still help by sharing our need amongst family and friends.

On behalf of everyone, both horses and humans alike, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Due to the freezing temperatures of the past week and the upcoming cold nights we must make a hay run tomorrow for six large compressed half pasture bales (each weighs approximately 500 pounds) as well as 8 bags of coastal. The cost of the six half bales and 8 bags of coastal is $830, so if anyone would like to help with this need, it would be so greatly appreciated. This hay should last until Tuesday or Wednesday when another cold front will be moving in. Then we will need to do it all over again.

MacGyver and Valley Girl, here, helping Mommy Theresa with another hay run! The current need includes 4 bales of Alfalfa (our favorite), 21 bags of Coastal, and 24 bales of Orchard for a grand total of $1078.

So, if you would like to help, it would make our tummies happy and give us a chance to test out our “new” teeth! Dr. Templeton (thank you Dr. T!) worked on our teeth yesterday and took care of some sharp points and other things so it’s much easier for us to chew now! Nicky had to have a tooth pulled and Peaches got an adjustment, too. Jo and Dancer also were done but Mommy Theresa will have to tell you about that at another time.

Please CLICK HERE to choose from a variety of ways to donate.

All contributions are very much appreciated and no amount is ever too small.

P.S. If anyone would like to start a Match Game to assist with this need, we would be forever grateful!

Thank you!

Love,
MacGyver & Valley Girl

It’s me, Hope! Did you know that on Thursday, a ‘controlled burn’ happened next door and went out of control and flames came over to our farm? It was so scary because it was very windy. I became less scared when Mommy Theresa told me that I did a great job helping to raise money for our hay run last week! It made me feel really good so I asked Auntie Jeanne if I could help again this week and she said, ‘Yes!’ We go through lots of hay during the wintertime because the grass does not grow so, if anyone would like to help with this week’s hay run, it would make me and all of my horsey and donkey friends (and Mommy Theresa) so very happy! And guess what? A very special Auntie has offered to match all donations up to $500!

Love,
Hope

Tilly here, to let you all know that we have reached the halfway mark for our hay fundraiser! Sadly, we now need a little more help to make sure we all have ‘Happy Feet’ in time for the holidays. Mommy Theresa told me that donations are way down because a lot of people are suffering and we all feel so very sad about that. If you can spare even one dollar, it would really make a difference in the lives of my horsey friends, but if you can’t, we truly understand. You can still help though, by sharing this post.

Thank you!

Love,
Tilly

Mishka and Mo here, letting you all know that it is time for a Hay Run again! The grass is dormant and, for the last couple of nights, it’s been cool enough that a couple of the minis have had to wear light blankets. Sadly, the weekly hay run is going to have to turn into an almost twice-a-week run. If anyone would like to help the current hay need, it would truly make our tummies happy!

Our beloved herd is in need of a ton of orchard hay @ $610, 2 bales of alfalfa @ $38 and $225 for coastal for a total of $873.

If anyone would like to help with this need, please click the DONATE button below and note that your donation is for ‘Hay Match Game.’

Love,
Mishka & Mo

P.S. Mo here. Mishka really eats a lot of hay!
