Solace – a summary of today’s findings

Solace has small areas of pneumonia but there was no free fluid on his lungs – they did not have to drain his chest. The transtracheal wash revealed an inflammatory process with no bacteria seen – suspicious fungal organisms were seen and a sample is being sent out for additional testing. We don’t know what caused the hemorrhages to the conjunctiva in his left eye but that is the least of our worries at this point. Our big worry – he is anemic and it is getting worse. There were no areas of overt intra-cavity hemorrhage found but based on blood work there is internal bleeding but they don’t know where or what is causing it. His medications were adjusted and another CBC will be done on Wednesday. Based on those findings, Solace may need a blood transfusion.

They did a lot of testing on him today and I know he must be tired. I was worried about how he would handle the trip but I should have known he would endure – he adores life and is a fighter – he is remarkable. After all of the things done to him today he was still bright and alert. He is a very proud horse with character and class.

So we continue his prescribed treatment plan and we pray. Hopefully the blood work to be done on Wednesday will be better. While we know God could call Solace home at any time we find comfort in knowing that he knows he is loved – every second we have with him is a blessing.

I’m beat and need to finish up some things and call it a day. Please forgive me, once again, if I have not responded to your email. I likely won’t get back in the office to get to emails again until tomorrow night. God bless all of you for caring and for your continued support. If anyone would like to help with today’s vetting for Solace you can call a credit into the hospital (Peterson & Smith) at 352-237-6151 or donate via various ways on our website. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Thank you and have a blessed night.

Sincerely,
Theresa

I just left a message on your phone. Check out this site from Dr. Porters blog.

The horse with Pythorsis ( Ithink thats the spelling) is a friend of mine it is a Peruvian and has been going well since trtment. Could this be Solace’s issue? Dr. Porter has seen this several times. He thinks that they pick it up when drinking out of stagnant ponds.

Also check out the Bute toxicity- could this have been Alyse”s issue.

Lastly, I have B Haven penciled in for Jan 19th. I could probably come with Kim and Cindy has also offered to come with a handler. I am not sure who will still need trimming. Let me know.

How is Beauty? She has been in my thoughts.
