Beauty

More than twenty years ago, a neglected and abused Arabian filly brought light and joy into my life at a time when I needed it the most. After surgery to remove a tumor on my spinal cord, I became a quadriplegic and was told I would never walk again. With determination, faith, and an intensive physical therapy program, I regained the use of my limbs, though had, and still have, no feeling or awareness below my neck. I had to leave the government job I loved due to issues associated with my injury, which left me in a very, very dark place.

While Bob and I were introducing our kids to riding and I was cautiously getting back in the saddle myself, I was contacted about an Arabian filly who was terrified of humans. She was seized by law enforcement from an abusive owner, and I went to meet her. We bonded instantly, and she was mine in that moment. I named her Beauty.

Over the years, we healed each other. She was my heart horse, and my rock through life’s peaks and valleys. And Beauty thrived, becoming the namesake and face of our nonprofit rescue. But injuries and health issues crept in, which we were able to manage over the years.

Until we couldn’t any longer. Ironically, it was a tumor that brought me to Beauty, and it was a tumor that took her away from me. We let her go to Rainbow Bridge in December, 2023.

I have written so much about Beauty. I hope you take the time to read more about our treasured years together on our blog: CLICK HERE.
