The vet is on the way. Starbuck needs prayers again – we found him with a large tooth dangling in his mouth this am. He can’t nurse or eat. I don’t know if he injured himself or what is going on but it looks horrible and painful.

Also, Gentleman has a rear leg injury on the right side. Dr. Adam will be examining him too.

A coggins has been pulled on Mia, the black mare.

What a way to start the day…

Sincerely,

Theresa

Mia met her new human family today and it was awesome!! Everyone clicked – she’s going to get lots of attention – I’m very happy for her.

When it was time to go Mia wanted to go too! She will make the short trip to her new home on Wednesday. I can’t wait! Thanks everyone – great job!

Sincerely,
Theresa

We received the $100 we needed in donations for her and I went over to the farm and paid her ransom and she has been signed over to us. The vet is scheduled to be there 0830 Monday am to do a coggins that we’ll have in hand 2 pm Tuesday I am told. We need a place for her to go by Tuesday pm – latest Wednesday am BUT we have an appointment with a lady that lives in Ocala in the morning – it sounds promising. If it all works out the mare will be picked up and taken to her new home on Tuesday or Wednesday. Until then – I DID talk to the property owner and he has give me authority to keep the mare there until we can have her picked up which has to be no later than Wednesday. We still need the $30 for her coggins (it may be $35, I’m not sure if it went up).

Sincerely,

Theresa

To say it’s been very busy here would be an understatement. Here we go again…

This black 7 yr old TB mare needs a safe place to go ASAP. The owner was evicted from the farm and can’t take the mare with her so she said she will call the local rendering company to shoot her and haul her away. A person that works on the farm alerted me to her. I went to visit the mare and she is a baby doll that wants to trust. You can feel it and see it in her eyes. She’s never been raced and has basically been living feral. She hasn’t been treated nicely but doesn’t hold it against you. Her feet need to be done, she’s had no vaccinations, she needs a coggins, etc. She has a horribly matted mane with sticker berries in it. She is of good weight and is about 15.3 hh.

She was very inquisitive with me and I feel she really wants to learn how to have a good relationship with a human. She is fearful yet very curious. You can see in her eyes how beautiful she is – I think the eyes really are a window to the soul. She came over to me and put her head down so I could rub her head between her eyes. I squatted down and we spent a few minutes getting to know each other. I didn’t want to leave without her.

This lovely mare is located near us – Morriston, FL. Now the owner wants $100 for the mare and we need another $30 for a coggins. We can’t bring her here but we are working on finding a home – can anyone help in any way?

Theresa

I just got home from visiting Story – thankfully he’s feeling better now that he’s passing gas. He’s as sweet as he ever!

His front legs still give him a time – some days are better than others. If he gets to the point where we can’t help him stay comfortable he will tell us. But for now, he is happy and content – Susan and Ralph take great care of him.

I just received a call from Story’s foster parents – Story is down and won’t get up. I called Jenny and Diane to go there – they are just around the corner and am impatiently waiting for a call back. This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago – Story looks great. I’ll update again when I know more.

Auntie Mel sent her a beautiful halter – made just for a donkey and it sure looks beautiful on her!

“Dora STOP! Stop grazing and look at me (as she stomps her foot)! I know you can see from behind that flymask thingy! Look what Auntie Mel sent to me!”

Dora is likely very happy Domino has her own halter now because she’s been sharing hers which is now worn and torn with Domino. Doran’s never fit Domino right but the new halter fits Domino perfectly with a little room to grow in.

And the color looks great on her – our darling little donkey Domino is growing up!

“Thank you Auntie Mel! Look at my ears – SURPRISE!!! I’m not growing into them anymore – they are growing with me! LOL!!”

Starbuck is doing better each day. His legs are becoming stronger as are his whinnies! We’re still treating his belly button to help to prevent infection he has what is called Patent Urachus. He is still on antibiotics. His mom, Bella, isn’t producing much milk but he has come to like milk replacer. While he was pretty calm the first few days he was here (he was a preemie and his knees were pretty unsteady) he now would love to get out of his stall to play but that won’t be happening for a few more days – we’re following Drs. orders. We’re all amazed at how he is progressing but we won’t let our guard down – he has a ways to go.

His mom, Bella, had her teeth done over the weekend – which she needed. Dr. Bess says she is about 20 years young. Bella is a very sweet mare that loves her baby to no end.

Starbuck and his mom are still in need of sponsors. They use a lot of shavings and his milk replacer is pretty expensive. He will be on antibiotics for a few more days. Donations are greatly appreciated and donations are tax deductible. No amount is too small! Thank you!

Spirit is doing very well. Dr. Bess worked on her teeth over the weekend and she was a very good girl. She’s just that way – she has really settled in nicely.

Spirit is becoming more vocal and animated – she really is a doll. Dr. Porter will be out tomorrow afternoon to ultrasound her to look at the back of her left eye. Dr. Ryan thinks Spirit can see a very small sliver of light through that eye and we’re praying there is something that can be done to help her regain some sight in it.

What a beautiful face – don’t you agree?
