Good morning! Just a quick email to show you how good Genesis is looking – he’s doing really well!

Genesis is a good boy and enjoys spending time with Cisco under the trees eating his hay. You can also find him running the fence line with the girls at times – he’s very handsome and I think he knows it!

We have at least 6 horses that need hooficures this week – would anyone like to sponsor one or more? Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Thank you so much – have a wonderful day!

Theresa

Spirit the day we picked her up.  Spirit is blind.  Injury on her face that went to the bone – her face was an oozing bloody mess. An injury to her chest that went to her sternum bone and she had many other open injuries. She had bite and kick marks all over her. She was thin. Living on 20+ acres with many other horses, including studs, must have been pretty scary for her. I just can’t imagine what she went through.

And just look at Spirit now! Granted, she has some scars that she will wear for life – they are a reminder of her strong will and love for life. She is beautiful.

It’s been a real blessing having Spirit with us but it’s time for her to have her own human. She is a bright, happy, trusting, healthy horse that is willing to please. She needs training but with someone that starts her from the ground up, using natural horsemanship methods, she will be an awesome student. We truly believe she would make a nice trail horse.

Please spread the word that Spirit is looking for a home – it would be a wonderful thing if she could find a home of her own before the upcoming holidays!

Theresa

We hope everyone is having a good week. I can’t believe it is Wednesday already – almost Thursday! We’re staying busy here – so many chores to do and with the days getting shorter it sure doesn’t help. The weather has been awesome – I wish it would stay like this all year. Today is the first day we had to buy large pasture bales (700 lb compressed bales) of hay for each of the paddocks which kicks off our official hay season. We have about 1 ½ tons of small bales which we’ll go through in no time. But at least, for now, we have hay!

I need to get finished on some things so I’m going to share some photos and get back to work.

Baby Ray and Baby Girl butt to butt – with Indy.

Baby Girl – a very special filly.

Little Indy isn’t so little anymore! But he is still very handsome. He loves to take everything out of the golf cart and then watch humans have to pick everything up and put it all back again.

This is Lace – she is a very sweet girl. She is looking for her forever home.

Starbuck is healing just fine from being gelded. He will be able to go back out with Dora to play in a couple of days.

Dr. Ryan was out this week to examine Bella and run some blood work – she was coughing and looking like she just didn’t feel well. He thinks she has allergies – it’s only recently started. She’s getting meds for a few days. I didn’t hear her cough at all today. But she did whinny at me quite a bit today “More hay please!”

These little donkeys sure do love the attention they get!

Peggy Sue – she didn’t even get out of the paddock this morning before her head went down to check out the grass! Little Rambo had his surgery to fix his locking stifle and he is now with his new family.

Beauty in the morning…

This is a very sweet 8 year old Appendix mare that needs a home. She is not far from Ocala, FL. If anyone would be interested in her please contact Melissa at bhfer.melissa. Please consider giving this girl a home. There is another little filly with her but I think we’ve been able to place her. We will know on Friday. If anyone is interested in this 8 yr old and would like more pictures please let me know before Friday.

Nikole and HighTower have settled into their new home and are doing great. They are being spoiled rotten but they deserve it! I hope to post a more detailed update on some of the other horses soon. This weekend we will be busy sorting through blankets – we’re supposed to have a cool night coming this weekend. Little E gets a thin blanket if it gets below 50 degrees and there is a wind. I know last night I thought it was a bit chilly!

Lastly, I’d like to ask for prayers for a friend – her name is Janet. We hope she feels better soon. I do believe in the power of prayer so if lots of us include her in our prayers hopefully she’ll be back on her feet soon. We appreciate everyone’s continued support – have a wonderful rest of the week. Thank you all!

Theresa

We know that Canada has stopped accepting horses destined for slaughter. We also know there are horses stuck in the slaughter pipeline that we are very concerned about. I’d like to remind everyone that the pipeline starts all around us. It isn’t just the horses on the front lines sitting at Sugarcreek, New Holland, etc. that are going to need help that we worry about. There are feedlots and dealers all over the country that supply KB’s with horses. We are worried about these horses as well. They all will need help.

We are trying to determine how, and if, we may be able to help any of these horses. Some organizations may already be asking for funds to help horses caught in the pipeline – we suggest that everyone be careful and to make sure the organization, and their plans to help these horses, are legitimate.

None of us really know what to expect or when. But we should start identifying ways to help. I know the dealers in our area will expect money for horses they are stuck with. Funds will be needed for this and other things – hay, grain, vetting, etc.

Theresa

We would like to ask for your help. Today we inquired into purchasing a new load of hay – we are down to 5 bales. We were told there are only 14 bales (1/2 a ton) left until a new load arrives next Tuesday and that the price of that hay will be going up significantly. We told our supplier that we wanted to purchase two tons, as we usually do, and asked if he could do anything to help. He said if we committed to the two tons today we could buy it at today’s cost plus he will give us $10 per ton! The price per ton, including the discount, is $525 ($18.75 per bale).

If 56 people were willing to buy just 1 bale, we would have both tons paid for! To pick up the 14 bales today it would be about $260. We just received a donation for 1 bale – to meet today’s goal we need 13 more bales. Would anyone be willing to help with this? Every little bit helps and every donation is greatly appreciated.

Buying these two tons before the price goes up would be a blessing. We would like to pick up the 14 bales today and would need to have the remainder of the 2 tons delivered next week. If anyone would like to help you can call a credit in to Quality Hay directly at 352-529-0888 or donations can be made various ways through our website at www.bhfer.org/donate.html.

For today – 13 bales of hay to go – can you help? Thank you!

Good morning everyone! I’m happy to report all of the horses are doing well this morning!

Magic and Penelope have been doing well. Magic finished up his meds yesterday and, per Dr. Ryan, I pulled the catheter. Magic was glad, I’m sure. When I turned him out he ran and ran – he’s beautiful! Penelope has greeted us for the past two mornings with her lovely braying while Penny runs around chasing who knows what – they’re both so cute! It’s so fun to watch Penny. She will run and run all around and then run to a sandy spot and just throw herself down and roll and roll and then get up and do it all over again. Thank you all for praying for Magic and Penelope.

Many thanks to those that have bid on the beautiful leather bling head stall being auctioned to help with Magic’s vet bills. There is another being auctioned on our Facebook page to help with Penelope’s vet bill and any additional funds from that one will go towards Magic’s bill which was pretty high. If anyone would like to help by calling in a donation directly to the vet’s office the number is 352-237-6151. Donations can also be made various ways available through our “Donate” page (www.bhfer.org/donate.html) on our website. Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small.

Cisco is doing great and is ready for a forever home!

I’m late getting out to the barn. And I have an appointment with someone to meet Rambo. This is her 2nd visit and I think it’s going to work out great. Wouldn’t it be awesome to get horses here that are ready into forever homes before the upcoming holidays?

Have a wonderful day everyone.
