We had LOTS of help yesterday and so many horses got much needed baths including Bouie, Frodo, and Peggy Sue!

Hay delivery!!! And the price was very good!

We found a new little mascot yesterday – a tiny baby mouse. So cute!

Sierra – one of our adopted horses – she’s looking great!

Solace

Bella

Sisco is so handsome!

Little E and Gentleman – both are in their 30’s.

Lacey, Sisco, and Chloe. Sunset at the farm is always beautiful. You can’t really see Morgan but she is on the other side of Lacey.

Sherry-Kenny Luzader and Chloe giving Ruby some attention.

Betsy Rose and Freckles have new friends! Raggedy Ann and Camel!

"Hee hee! Camel look at me! You look so small down there! Betsy Rose please be sure not to step on Camel, ok? I’ve always wanted a pony for a friend!"

No worries! Freckles is always close by! Sometimes she entertains the baby boys. Betsy Rose’s appetite is back and she’s feeling better. I think she over extended herself getting up and down and the heat got to her too.

Today, Tuesday

Double rainbow over the rescue this am!

Betsy Rose wasn’t interested in food again today and looked like she just didn’t feel well so I called Dr. Julia out. She is doing some blood tests and we hope to have results this evening. Maybe I’m a worry wart but better safe than sorry.

All of the boys were good today for their hooficures. That’s Pamela Zarem holding them for the farrier.

The 3 baby boys got a good grooming today after their hooficures.

Deborah and Wally.

Theresa

A trip down memory lane and an update on Buttercup!

Buttercup was a nurse mare baby (TB} that came to us at just under 2 weeks old, unhandled, in 2008. Just a few days after Aaleyah Belle and Momma Sue arrived.

Momma Sue making sure her 3 girls: Silver Belle, Buttercup, and Aaleyah Belle play fairly.

Another of the girls playing with Momma Sue trying to keep it all together – she sure had her hooves full!

These girls kept us busy but those were days we’ll treasure forever.

Buttercup is all grown up now! Isn’t she beautiful!

Sincerely,

Theresa

Yesterday, the tumor on Daisy’s eyelid was debrided. Today, she started chemo injections on both tumors (left and right eyes). We hope to save both eyes but hopefully, at least one. If the left eyelid is removed, she will lose the eye. Daisy is handling everything well. She is only 3 – 4 years old and possibly pregnant. I’m sure she feels better with the huge mass gone. I’m not going to say she is going to be ok – only time will give us that answer. She is being a very brave girl and baby Boo is too. We are finalizing a foster home situation for them. Here at the rescue isn’t a good place for any pink skin animal – we have very little shade. I’m very sorry for what Daisy has had to endure – she should have received help when the issue first started. But we can’t go back in time – we can only enjoy the present and the future with her and with baby Boo. And we pray for healthy and long lives for both of them. I’m not sure when they will be released but I’ll update as I know more.

Boo was happy when her mom got back to their stall.

Straight to the milk bar! Daisy is a very good mom.

After surgery – she did well.

Dr. Hughes checking on her.

If anyone would like to help with Daisy and Baby Boo’s care, donations can be called directly into Peterson & Smith Equine Hospital at 352-237-6151.

Thank you all for your love and support.

Sincerely,

Theresa

.

Warning! Graphic Images.

Our newest rescue as of today, Mommy & Baby Donkey. Poor Baby and Mommy Donkey!
A month old baby mini donkey should be running and playing in green fields.

Mommy donkey is not in good shape.

"Welcome to your new family, little one. We’re going to help you and your momma get healthy.
Enjoy the trailer ride and no worries, ok?"

Special delivery!

The vet will be here around 4 pm to see mom and baby. The momma has some real issues to overcome.
I’ll post more then. This was taken before they loaded to come today.

Content. Precious. Sad. Very sad. I’m glad they are here.

Momma is very sweet. She’s only 3 to 4 years young – just a baby herself.

I have no words.

Please pray for momma and baby donkeys. Dr. Julia Simonson examined them this evening and momma likely has SCC. As bad as her left eyes looks, it does not appear that the cancer has reached the eye but is above it on the eye lid. Her right eye, even though it looks better, may be more of an issue. She isn’t making much milk for baby but with proper nutrition and supplements, she will likely improve. The baby is a little thin but bright and playful. They are both munching on forage and drinking water. They seem very content. I feel badly for momma – she is young, only 3 or 4 years old. Dr. Julia is consulting with a surgeon tomorrow to come up with a treatment plan and cost estimate. She can likely be admitted to the hospital on Wednesday.

Sincerely,

Theresa

“Good morning everyone! Betsy Rose here! I wanted to pop in and thank everyone for caring about me and my friend, Freckles. Guess what? We have presents to open today! I saw a couple of boxes Mommy Theresa put in the tack room and wondered what they were. We get to find out later today! Anyway, I just wanted thank everyone.

If you don’ t mind, please take a minute to vote for us on the TSC and Bank contests. With your help I believe we CAN win! I know it would take a lot of worry off Mommy Theresa’s plate. I heard her say the cold season is coming and we’re going to need a lot of hay. And if you ask your family and friends to vote, that would help a lot. I’m alive today because a lot of you helped with my care – many good things can happen when we all work together. Mommy Theresa says it takes a village! I believe we can win – please, believe with me and vote!”

Betsy Rose

“Remember when I came here I said, “I CAN DO THIS!? Well I am doing it – and I want to help other horses by telling the world about what happened to me. I have to go now – it’s feeding time – but I’ll be back later. Have a good day!”

Betsy Rose - I Can Do This!

Love,
Betsy Rose

Morgan LaFaye enjoyed extra attention on Saturday. Roxy rode her for a bit – they had a good time!

I love seeing smiles…

"Hi everyone! we hope you all had a great weekend! The humans here are very busy, but I asked Mommy Theresa to let you all know that me and Freckles are doing great! And I want to thank you all for caring about me – I never dreamed life could be this good!"

‘Did someone say snack? Well, we horses here do eat a bit. I’d like to ask if anyone has any Purina coupons for grain that you don’t need, Mommy Theresa sure could use them. The mailing address is PO Box 53, Morriston, FL 32668. And of course, if you want to send any treats this way that would be great too!"

Betsy Rose LOVES attention – she is like a shadow sometimes. But it’s nice to turn around and find her in your face!

Solace is doing well. We monitor him closely and take his temperature twice a day. He’s not had anymore problems with infection since he went to the hospital. I hope it stays that way. Here he was this am standing under the mister in the tree with Gentleman.

I want to share another wonderful update from one of our adopted family members. Kara adopted Sammi and baby Joy a couple of years ago. Sammi was headed to slaughter when we intercepted her – she was pregnant. I remember Joy’s birth like it was yesterday. She hit the ground running! Both Sammi and Joy are doing great!

From Kara: “Saturday was a GREAT day. First time on Joy! Can you see that smile, how about the tears?!! Did I say it was GREAT day!!”

Lynn mowed/dragged the large paddocks on Saturday. They look so nice – I wish they would stay like this! And I wish we had green grass all year around. The cold season is coming – we need to start our winter hay drive soon. Hay costs $545 a ton here and even more south of us. We go through a ton of hay about every 4 – 5 days in the cold months. Doing the math makes me shudder.

Kylie braided Betsy Rose’s mane on Saturday – she’s so stylish!

Not long after Barbara arrived on Saturday the rains came. She took it in stride and went to work anyway!

After the storms passed through on Saturday afternoon, look who I found under the rainbow – Beauty!

Wishing everyone a wonderful week.

Theresa

Wishing everyone a great weekend.

All of the baby boys are doing well. I’ve been working with Wally on the lead and with his manners. He likes to turn and kick if you don’t feed him fast enough. He’s a hoot! CaryLou still coughs some and the heat doesn’t help him – he has a collapsing trachea. Harvey is as cute as a button and doing well.

Genesis and Bella – both are beautiful!

And then there is Penny and her mom, Penelope. They are like big puppy dogs and they are great entertainment! Penny likes to chase the golf cart and steal our water bottles.

Aaleyah Belle still loves to slime people! She’ll never change – we love her dearly.

Little E and Jenny dancing. He doesn’t like getting a bath. LOL

Cookie. She’s so sweet.

Betsy Rose has declared this stall to be hers and Freckles. She wanders freely around the barn except in the dead heat of the day when she goes in her stall and stays cool with her Port-A-Cool and two fans. The new fly mister system helps tremendously!!! No, this little mare isn’t spoiled at all. Neither is Freckles.

We had storms pass through this afternoon and look who I found under the rainbow – Beauty!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday.

Theresa
