This is how we ended our night last night, helping this little girl. She was wandering along the side of the road, alone, thin, hungry and in pain. Her front paw is nearly severed and the smell of infection is extreme. She may have gotten her foot caught in something and had to chew her way out. We’ll never know. She’s as sweet as sweet can be and she truly, deserves a chance. We have named her Kiah.

Kiah was rushed to UF in the wee hours of the morning and has undergone many tests, but the vet said it is most likely she will need to have her foot amputated. Hopefully, the infection can be successfully treated. It’s estimated that Kiah is about a year old.

We hate having to repeatedly ask for help, but we must. UF has estimated her bill to be between $3K to $4K but they will try to keep it at the lower end ($3K). Can anyone help us help Kiah? If so, please click on the ‘Donate’ button below. All donations are so greatly appreciated and no amount is ever too small.

I would like to introduce our latest Beauty’s Haven rescue, Scooter. He’s only about four years old and sadly, he has issues with his feet that likely could have been corrected a long time ago.

Upon Scooter’s arrival, we noticed that he didn’t pick up his feet very high when he walked, he just kind of scooted around. In addition, he had quite a few healing bite marks on his body, but he was, thankfully, of good weight. Dr. Giuliana Marie Templeton performed an exam, ran blood tests and took x-rays. His bloodwork indicates high and low values, he’s definitely been lacking proper nutrition. Stephanie, one of our awesome farriers, worked on his feet after the x-rays were done.

It’s going to take several months to get his feet in optimum shape. He may never be able to run and play like a horse with normal, healthy feet.

The mere act of walking with his feet in such a state has affected Scooter’s joints a bit, but he’s already more bright and active. There was a lot of licking and chewing when the farrier finished working on him which is a very good thing, indeed. He’s a real sweetie.

Scooter would really appreciate some sponsors to help with his veterinary and farrier bills, upcoming dental appointment, and ongoing care.

If you would like to help this adorable little guy, just click on the’Donate’ button below. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small. Scooter may be pretty small but his expenses, other than the amount of feed/forage he receives, are the same as that of a big horse.

Missing Penny

I still look for Penny each morning. She was such a kind, gentle, and brave mare who will forever remain in our hearts.

I’m not sure what his name will be until we get to know him a bit better. But until then, we’re calling him Miles. Miles is simply precious. He unloaded and settled into his paddock just fine. He walked around to check things out and took some time to watch the goats across the street. (Please click on the image above to view Miles on his first walkabout.)

Miles’s eyes are getting softer by the minute and they truly, express a sense of relief. I think he knows he’s going to be okay.

No more wandering aimlessly around country backroads for this boy. I don’t understand why his owner wouldn’t want him or to at least, find a good home for him vs letting him roam the streets. He is a bit underweight but we will be able to fix that in no time.

In loving memory of Penny, Miles now begins a new chapter in his life. I believe he will be just fine.

Many thanks to all who have donated to help this beautiful boy.

Sincerely,
Theresa

About two weeks ago, we were contacted by a number of people who wanted to make us aware of a horse that had been wandering the streets in a rural part of Levy County. The Sheriff’s Department had picked him up as a stray animal and issued a public notice in an effort to find the owner. The horse was also posted on NetPosse’s Facebook page, but no one came forward.

The Sheriff’s Department had stated in their public notice that if the horse was not claimed by a certain date, a public auction would be held and he would be sold to the highest bidder.

Since no one came forward, the auction was held this morning, which I attended, and thankfully, was able to secure this precious soul who needs a kind human touch and proper care.

I truly believe that our sweet Penny most definitely, had a hand in this!

We are reaching out for assistance to help with this boy’s initial vetting, dental, farrier and nutritional needs. In addition, if anyone would like to help by sponsoring him for one or more weeks/months for any amount, we would be forever grateful. If you wish to help, just click on the ‘Donate’ button below.

Many of you may remember Kami and her mom, Haley, who had been adopted to good friends of the rescue several years ago. Sadly, Haley passed away during the night a few evenings ago which left a hole in many human hearts. It also left Kami with no other horsey friend.

Kami’s adoptive parents talked to us about the situation, and, as much as they care about her, we agreed that it would be in Kami’s best interest if she returned to Beauty’s Haven.

We are so grateful to Sherry and Kenny for giving the girls a great home and for loving Kami enough to do what is best for her. Sherry and Kenny will be moving closer to the rescue and Sherry will be back to volunteer and see Kami.

Kami Meets Sassy

We all figured Kami and Sassy would either get along great or not at all. They had a good meeting and walked off together after they met. I thought it would take just a little time for the girls to figure out who is the sassiest and, by the end of the day, I think it was decided by Kami that she is the lead princess.

Haley will never be forgotten and she will forever remain in each of our hearts.

Sincerely,
Theresa

These two boys were about to become homeless on Easter and they needed a safe place to land. I don’t know how old Elvis the pony is, but he’s up there in age. He has some eye and dental issues. Ford… well, I’m not sure of his age but hopefully we will know better today after the vet arrives. Both are in need of everything – bloodwork, exams, hooficures, dental, etc.

Elvis and Ford need sponsors for their initial needs as well as monthly sponsors for their ongoing care.

Any amount of a donation is very much appreciated and no amount is ever too small. Donations are tax deductible and can be made by simply clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below, where you may also sign up to become a monthly sponsor for one or both of these precious boys.

Orphan Newborn Donkey Needs Special Care

The vet has arrived and this sweet little one is a baby girl. Although she has a temperature, she did take a little milk. The plasma the vet had on her truck wasn’t guaranteed to be suitable for donkeys so another bag should be arriving at the farm any minute now. She did get some fluids and antibiotics have been started. We’ve haven’t lost a dummy foal yet and hopefully, this won’t be our first. I’m choosing to believe that this little girl is a fighter and will be just fine. I’ll update after the plasma is administered.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Introducing Valley Girl & Buckshot

Valley Girl and Buckshot, our newest arrivals, have settled in really well. As Hope shared in our last email, these two precious horses arrived late Friday evening. Sadly, their human mom passed away and they needed a place to go. Valley Girl is an Arabian/Thoroughbred cross with some health issues that we are presently addressing and Buckshot is a very sweet Paint.

A New Friendship

It’s bittersweet seeing MacGyver under the Friendship Tree. Peggy Sue is just on the other side of Mac in the first photo above.

The bottom photo includes Tilly, Cricket, Little E, Bria, and Nina gathered around the Friendship Tree. We sadly, lost them all last year – they are all gathered at Rainbow Bridge now. We are blessed that Peggy Sue is still with us and we are so very happy that she and Mac have become fast friends.

Sincerely,
Theresa

I have an announcement to make!!!! Are you ready to listen up? Did you know that I have a new big brother and a big sister? I do! They arrived last night and I can’t wait to meet them! Mommy Theresa said they’re really nice. Their human mommy passed away and they needed a place to go – isn’t that sad? We’ll make them feel right at home. Stay tuned – I’ll tell you more about them after the morning busys around here! That means it will probably be late afternoon. We’ll post pictures too!

Love,
Hope

Uh Oh!

JoJo just discovered that the golf cart was broken and so it has therefore, been sent to the repair shop. When a wonderful friend and supporter learned of this latest setback, she came forth to offer a $300 Match Game to assist with the repairs. If anyone would like to help get the golf cart ‘on the road again,’ it would truly, make two little donkeys, as well as all the humans here at Beauty’s Haven, very happy indeed! You may forward your donation via various means here on our website’s Donation Page. Please note that your donation is for the ‘Golf Cart Match Game.’

Thank you for your continued generosity & support!

Sincerely,
Theresa
