We are riding out the hurricane and no matter which coast it travels up we are going to get slammed.  However, we are evacuating a few horses to TN and the small animals to GA. We are boarding up the facilities, replacing / securing boards and posts, filling gas cans, putting ID collars on horses and and marking them, and much more. We need to get some medical supplies including ventipulmin for Penny and APF that many here need – both are expensive. We were able to have the propane tank filled yesterday (it runs the well pump as a source for water) and we were able to stock up on grain, shavings, and hay.

Transportation expenses, boards and plywood, reflective ID collars for 30+ horses, sandbags, some breakaway halters, hardware to secure barn doors, and other necessary items are roughly going to be $3000.  I’m sorry to have to continue to ask for help – it literally makes my stomach hurt because I realize there are many in need. But we do need help.

Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. They can be made via PayPal at bhfer@earthlink.net (mark the donation for “friends or family” so no fees are taken out. Donations can also be made via our website at www.bhfer.org. Thank you for any and all support, including prayers.

There is much to do – Bob needs to go get boards and plywood ASAP – I think we have a couple of people coming this afternoon that can help him. God bless and stay safe everyone. We hope and pray Irma goes far, far east.

Our 8th Annual Celebration of Life/ASPCA Help a Horse Day is on Saturday, April 22nd, and almost every year, a horse in need finds its way to Beauty’s Haven just before the event. Well, this year, it’s not a horse, but a baby lamb with an injured leg!

The baby will be arriving this evening and will be going to the vet tomorrow. We are praying that his leg can be fixed. If not, we will address our options then, based on information learned from the vet.

At this point in time, we are only asking for pledges to help this sweet baby boy.

Later Monday Evening ~

Meet Noah – a month old lamb with a fractured leg. He’s a happy little one. We are praying that the vet can set and cast his leg and that Noah will have many years ahead of him.

Baby Noah has the cutest “baaaa!”  Anyone with his milk bottle is “mom.”  He’s off to the vet’s office and we’re getting ready for Cookie’s surgery this morning. It is going to be a very busy day!

Please keep Noah and Cookie in your prayers.

I’ll update on both as I soon as I can.

Some wonderful news to share about Spirit – she’s ready to go to her new forever home!  As soon as we raise funds for her journey to Oklahoma, she will be on her way!  Her wonderful adopter has experience with blind horses and the perfect pasture awaiting her arrival! Spirit will even have her very own donkey friend!

Everyone loves Lucy! We appreciate Foxy and Timmie’s mom, Judy, volunteering her time to hold horses for the farrier.

What was the first thing JoJo did the first time he was turned out around the house when he was a baby? Watch this short video to find out – we hope it makes you smile! Just watch!

What's up those stairs?

It was a long rainy and windy night with Tropical Storm Colin coming through but we got through ok. I hope everyone else did too. We really need help with hay – would anyone like to buy a bale? Even part of a bale?  No amount is too small and every donation is greatly appreciated.

Hay

Each bale is approximately $18 and we need 21 bales = $378. We also need a few bales of coastal which are $7 each = $49. A combined total of $427. The horses would truly appreciate it – so would us humans.

We also need your help to win $10K for the horses. It’s free and easy – PLEASE vote today and everyday through July 31st and then share and ask family and friends to vote for us too!  Sharing out on various media channels, making this go viral, is the ONLY way we can win this. http://wshe.es/65VvE5f1

We don’t receive any local, state, or Federal funds – we operate totally from donations which are tax deductible. Our PayPal address is bhfer@earthlink.net and there are other ways to donate that you can find on our website at www.bhfer.org. If you can help please mark your donation for “Hay”. Thank you.

How do you get ADHD donkeys to stop long enough to pay attention? Just watch!  Guaranteed to make you smile! Want to spread the smiles? It’s free and easy – PLEASE today and everyday through July 31st and share and ask family and friends to vote for Beauty’s Haven Farm and Equine Rescue to help win $10,000 for the horses! And ask them to share and ask their friends to share and vote too. Sharing out, making this go viral with others, is the ONLY way we can win the contest!

Donks

The stress that comes with what we do is high, constantly, due to the amount of funds it takes to do what we do – many horses (and donks and whatever else comes into our path) need help. The rewards are great seeing the animals recover and find their forever home. Or, in some cases, live out their life here – horses like our little Betsy Rose that are too frail and have special needs. It takes a Village! Please help us to help more like JoJo and Jazzy – they were both orphans when they came to us. JoJo and Jazzy asked me to share this video with you in hopes it will make you smile and hopefully vote today and everyday through July 31st.

So many people say they love what we do – and we appreciate that but we need your support in this effort. Please help us do this – for the horses. Sharing and asking others to vote daily, and share, is going to be key. Thank you – have a blessed day.
PS – we do not receive any local, state, or Federal funds. We operate totally from donations.

Today’s voting to win $10K for the horses will done be in memory of Eilian. There are many cases I don’t post about because there is enough sadness on the Internet but I think it’s important for supporters to see how funds help horses and what we do. And, perhaps another horse can be helped in some way by sharing our experiences. Eilian’s suffering started long before we got the call about him back in late summer, 2013. I found him unable to get up and with bones scattered in his filthy paddock – proof of other animals that had died. A skull only a few feet from where he lay.
Eilian

I can’t imagine what Eilian had witnessed there over time.  Did he wonder if he be the next victim?  Did he wish death would come quickly to release him of his suffering?  Did he wonder what he’d done to deserve what was happening to him?

Dr. Ryan Meeks did everything he could – we did our best.
Eilian

After hours of doing all we could, the look in Eilian’s beautiful and proud Arabian eyes said it all – he knew and he understood there were no options but release.  Dr. Meeks helped Eilian to Rainbow Bridge.
Eilian Tried

The only good that came out of this was that in Eilian’s last few hours, he knew love, and he wasn’t alone.  It broke my heart and I know Eilian saw it in the tears that I couldn’t hold back – tears that told him that he really was loved and that he did matter.  Tears that said I was sorry, and ashamed, for how the human race had failed him.  I kissed him one last time and promised him I’d see him at the Bridge.
Eilian
What we do takes a heavy toll.  It never gets any easier. Dr. Meeks and I both had very heavy hearts that day.  But if it wasn’t for support from our Village, we wouldn’t be able to help horses like Eilian, no matter what the outcome.

We were able to help Eilian, even thought it wasn’t the outcome we wanted, only because of help from our supporters.  One key thing that will enable us to win this contest for the horses is everyone voting and sharing daily – reaching out to family and friends and asking them to vote and to share as well.  Sharing will make a ton of difference!  I truly believe we can do this.  I believe.

Vote here: http://wshe.es/65VvE5f1.  They will only let you vote once every 24 hours – it’s very important that you try to vote as close to the same time each day.  Please – help make a difference for horses like Eilian.

Thank you for your support.
