We are riding out the hurricane and no matter which coast it travels up we are going to get slammed. However, we are evacuating a few horses to TN and the small animals to GA. We are boarding up the facilities, replacing / securing boards and posts, filling gas cans, putting ID collars on horses and and marking them, and much more. We need to get some medical supplies including ventipulmin for Penny and APF that many here need – both are expensive. We were able to have the propane tank filled yesterday (it runs the well pump as a source for water) and we were able to stock up on grain, shavings, and hay.
Transportation expenses, boards and plywood, reflective ID collars for 30+ horses, sandbags, some breakaway halters, hardware to secure barn doors, and other necessary items are roughly going to be $3000. I’m sorry to have to continue to ask for help – it literally makes my stomach hurt because I realize there are many in need. But we do need help.

Together at Rainbow Bridge
Alana’s frail little body was just too weak – she left us for Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Aiden, the stronger of the two, followed his sister to the Bridge a couple of hours later. I was with them when they left – they were never alone since the minute we found them. They were both just so small and frail. But they did matter and they were loved. Thank you to all that prayed for them. They’ll always be in our hearts.
Their mom, Grace, is just a kitten herself. She is in very poor condition. She is getting fluids, as needed, and lots of TLC. She’s trying to get strong and we will continue to do all we can for her. Our little amazing Grace – she’s so thankful for everything done for her. Again, thank you all of caring.

SAVING GRACE – CAN YOU HELP?
August 26th, 2017 – Saturday Afternoon
Our prayers for momma cat to come back were answered, but she is just a baby herself – not even a year old. This had to have been her first (we’ll make sure it’s her last) litter. We took her into the office and gave her water and a little food – she was so hungry. We cleaned her up and put her by the stroller with the babies, but she had no interest in them. She’s exhausted and needs time to relax and regroup.
Grace is only 4.2 lbs (that was after she’d eaten a little and drank some water). She’s so very thin – all bones. She’s been sleeping in her very own bed all evening. Grace did get up to eat and drink a little bit more and she used the litter box. It’s apparent that Grace hasn’t lived a good life. She’s unhealthy – skin on bones and she has some broken teeth. She has no milk to offer her babies and it’s no wonder why her babies were born premature. But she loves humans even after all they did, or didn’t, do for her in her short life – isn’t that amazing? She is amazing – amazing Grace!

PREEMIE KITTENS UPDATE – WE’RE OFF TO THE VET
August 26th, 2017 – Saturday
The kittens had a calm night – their warm nesting bed is in Popper’s stroller. They can’t control their body temperature so it’s important that us humans do what we can to help with that. I parked them right next to my bed and every 2 hours they were fed, burped, gently rubbed, and they had a little help to eliminate waste.
The babies are not much bigger than my thumb! The girl, Alana, is 2.3 ounces today and Aiden is 2.2 ounces today. They were both about 2 ounces when we found them yesterday morning. Gaining weight is good! But they are very fragile and have many hurdles to overcome. Many orphan kittens don’t survive. Being premature, well, the odds of their survival are worse. But we are going to be optimistic and do all we can to help them live.
Popper doesn’t understand why the kittens are in her stroller but she’s ok with it. Popper got hit by a neighbor’s truck a few years ago and it broke both legs and dislocated her hip. Keeping a Boston Terrier quiet for weeks so they can mend isn’t easy but the stroller helped. Now the babies will make good use of it.
Aiden, the smaller one, has a very good appetite but I’m a bit concerned about Alana. I’m very glad we’re headed to the vet.

PREMATURE KITTENS NEED HELP
August 25th, 2017
We found these two precious newborn kittens at the barn this morning – they appear to be premature. One was under the golf cart and the other was by the gate on the concrete baking in the sun. Both still had the placenta attached.
The kittens are warm and comfy and close to where we found them so I am hoping that momma will return. Maybe their mom was a first time mom and didn’t know what to do or something scared her away. She may have been in the process of moving them because they were several feet apart when we found them. We’re going to look around in case there are others. Please pray that they will be okayed that we can find their momma – we will be searching.
I cut the babies’ cords and cleaned them up. They will be monitored and cared for 24/7. Newborns, especially premies, can be a challenge. The little boy’s name is Aiden and his sister’s name is Alana. Alana is the bigger (but weaker) of the two.
Bob made a very quick trip to the store to purchase milk replacer. They both had a little milk and went to sleep in a warm and comfy bed.
I feel bad for their momma. I hope our cats or dogs didn’t run her away. And I’m glad the donkeys were not around the house last night – they may have hurt the mom or babies. Hopefully, mom will return.
