Good morning everyone! I’d love to start your day out (hopefully) with a smile. This was precious cargo that Pam delivered to us around midnight last night. Gracie and her 1 week old baby that has a congenital defect in his back leg that can be surgically repaired. We were his last hope in making that happen – he was facing euthanization. He weighs about 20 lbs. but gets around well.
He looks like a little angel when he naps!
In the wake of the Oklahoma tragedy, I know I needed something to make me smile – well, the liveliness and determination of this little guy definitely brings about smiles! God bless and have a great day!
I’ll share more about this story but right now I have to finish feeding and the dentist is coming.
Sincerely,
Theresa

Dr. Thacker has come and gone. I don’t know what to say other than we’re in a bit of shock right now. Ariel is doing ok – should foal any day now.
Amy, the 24 year old that the vet had said could have problems, at some point lost her baby. Dr. Thacker is the same vet that palpated/ultrasounded Amy back in January. I remember when Amy was body clipped on Feb 23 we laughed at seeing the baby move. We brought the mares in to live around the barn in mid April. So whatever happened, I think happened between that period of time. We’ll never know but I’m glad Amy is ok.
So, Amy will be going on a diet and we’ll be continue to pray that Ariel delivers a healthy and happy baby.
Sincerely,
Theresa

We hope everyone is had a great weekend. I hate asking for more help but it’s only because of help from others that we are able to do what we do.
The vet is coming out today and we need help with:
– examine/ultrasound Amy and Ariel.
– examine Solace. He seems to feel ok but there is an odor coming from his nose which may indicate infection. The vet said he man need x-rays.
– Princess needs both front feet x-rayed.
– We need to resupply some medications (Banamine, SMZ’s, etc.)
– We will need funds to have Stetson gelded when he is ready. Vet will be checking him again today. He’s doing well.
– We need a lot of flymasks in sizes mini, horse and Arabian. Several of the ones we have are just plain worn out and between the flies, lime rock road dust, no-see-um’s and blowing sand we use a lot. We try to have 2 on hand for most horses – one to wear while the other gets cleaned.
– Flyspray & flytraps
– We’re going to need hay by the end of the week.
Donations can be made via PayPal to Theresa or via various ways through our “Donate” page at www.bhfer.org/donate. The vet’s office can be called directly at 352-237-6151.
I’ll try to post pictures with an update from the weekend and today later this afternoon. It’s already very busy here but I had to take a minute to reach out for help. Thank you all – have a blessed day!
Sincerely,
Theresa

Solace wasn’t feeling himself today – he had a high temperature. He got cold hosed and some Banamine. This evening his temperature is normal and his appetite is good. Hopefully it was just a passing bug.
Are they all not adorable? Lucy, Wally, and yes – CaryLou is pretending to be taking a nap!
Ceri under saddle today for the first time since she has been with us. She’s a lovely Arabian mare.
Kylie and Roxy bathed four horses today – including Beauty (“founder” of BHFER and my heart horse!).
I didn’t watch the Preakness but was very happy to learn that there were no breakdowns. Congratulations to all – they are all winners in my book!
Good night everyone – thank you all for caring and for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Theresa

Twinkle has been coughing for a few days. I had called Dr. Ryan when it started and he said to monitor her and if no better to call him back in a few days so he could come out and examine her and do some blood work. So – I called him back this am and he came out. She has not has a temperature and her appetite is always good. But she sounds like a goose! Her blood work is normal so he thinks it’s allergies. If anyone would like to help with Twinkle’s vetting today the bill is $97. Any amount would be appreciated and no amount is too small. Donations are tax deductible and can be called into the vet’s office at 352-237-6151.
We have several hooficures coming up on Thursday and Friday and would be greatly appreciate help with these too. Stetson is #1 on the list to be done tomorrow along with many others. Peggy Sue is on the list for Friday along with at least 2 others.
CaryLou will have his first hooficure – oh joy! Dr. Ryan checked CaryLou today – his breathing is the same. Dr. Ryan is amazed at how built CaryLou is – it’s like he is on steroids! I was worried about his after math from being double barreled by Amy yesterday but he’s not sore from it at all. He is bored – he’s flattened all of his play balls and has been mounting the mares (and he’s not even 2 months old!) and getting into trouble! Amy kicked him yesterday because he tried to mount her. He’s getting friskier and I’m afraid one of his hooves will get Lucy in the face. So, CaryLou has a new friend named Wally. Wally is a mini colt that is about CaryLou’s height – they can play together. Also, when Amy and Ariel have their babies, I’m afraid that CaryLou and his antics would be too much for them – we don’t want any babies being hurt either. So, the boys will be moved to a paddock of their own with Twinkle at some point soon. I have a cute video of CaryLou and his semi flat ball from today that I’ll try to post tomorrow. I’ll try to get pictures of the boys tomorrow. I did remember to put the camera battery on the charger tonight.
If anyone has any mini or horse size flymasks we could sure use them! We also need horse size break away halters. Have a great night everyone!
Sincerely,
Theresa
