I don’t want to let this month end without remembering those that have crossed Rainbow Bridge during the month of September since we stood up BH in 2006.

Doc and Sunny – these were Easter saves from a local auction. Sunny crossed in 2009 and Doc in 2010.

Sparky – a New Holland save. Sparky crossed in 2008.

Admiral – a TB gelding that couldn’t overcome the abuse he suffered before coming to us. Admiral left us this time last year.

And Point to Ponder aka “My Girl” – a beautiful TB filly gave it her best shot after breaking down at Calder. She crossed in 2008.

Here is a tribute that was made for My Girl but it applies to all that have, and will, cross before us. Letting go is hard, even if it is the right thing to do. We were very blessed to be part of their life – if only for a little while. [youtube http://youtube.com/w/?v=hnQAlC7-vng]

Several students from the University of Florida came yesterday to help out. It was a beautiful day and by the end of it most of the horses had gotten a bath which they really needed. In some cases I think the humans got more wet than the horse!

Lots of hooficures were done – having extra hands really helped!

Blanket storage bins were cleaned and hiding spiders were vacuumed up!

This has got to be one of the most incredible inventions ever! A backpack vacuum that is lightweight enough that I am even comfortable wearing it! A great way to get up the cobwebs, hoof shavings, etc. instead of sweeping and/or blowing them with the leaf blower which makes horrible dust. And with the extension tools you don’t even have to get near the spiders! LOL! Check it out – it’s got a HEPA filter and is super awesome. Everyone should have one of these – the company website is www.pro-team.com. Or see them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ProTeamVacuums – if you go to August 14th, 2012 you’ll see me checking it out – thank you Janis, Don, Cary, and ProTeam!

And at the end of the day we got to do the UF Gator Chomp! To everyone that made yesterday possible – thank you SO much!

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and that the upcoming week is full of many blessings – God bless!

Theresa

It was a GREAT day here at the rescue – we had lots of young adults come out to help from the University of Florida!

Almost all of the horses got a bath and blankets got cleaned – and we all made new friends!

And guess who the BIG star was… yep – Gentleman! I’ll post an update with pictures tomorrow but I’m done for the day – I’m totally beat!

Tomorrow I hope to get caught up on some emails – way behind there and I apologize.

Have a great night everyone!

Theresa

What a good boy…. The inflammation above his coronary bands is painful but he stands diligently for daily treatment.

And he was very good for his hooficure today. Pam delivered a pretty new red halter to him today and it looks perfectly handsome on him!

And mentioning hooficures – we have several being done tomorrow! Would anyone like to sponsor a horse or two? Any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Theresa

Dr. Ryan examined Genesis today. He let Dr. Ryan do what needed to be done without hesitation. Genesis has a couple of places on his scrotum that we will be keeping a close eye on that could be cancerous. He has what Dr. Ryan believes to be a scrotal/inguinal hernia which is of good size.

Genesis has a dislocated lens in his right eye. The lens is cloudy (cataract) and is floating in the front of the eye – it is no longer fixed by the suspensory ligament. Dr. Ryan says this is the first time he’s ever seen a case like this.

Genesis was also very good for his bath. He is quite the horse – very cooperative, kind, and curious.

He has inflammation and infection above the coronary band on every foot that we are treating. They are all “ouchy.” He will be getting a hooficure on Saturday.

His feet are going to take quite awhile to heal. I’m very glad he is patient and stands for doctoring. We are waiting for his lab work to come back. He truly is a gentle giant and we are very glad he’s here. Thank you to everyone that has donated to help him – he is going to need more help with monthly care costs after this initial month.

I’ve named the Clydesdale "Genesis." He has settled in well and is such a love. Another gentle giant – he is huge! He is of good weight. He has a cataract in his right eye. But I have some other concerns about his health but I’ll hold them close until Dr. Ryan examines him tomorrow. Hopefully I’m just a worry wart and there isn’t anything wrong that can’t be managed.

Have a great night everyone – I’m not feeling well and am off to bed early. God bless!

The Clyde is here. I’ll update more later – sometimes I just have shut down for a little while and that’s where I am right now. Dr. Ryan will be out tomorrow.

I will say that I’m glad this boy is here and that his road to recovery has begun.

We still need help with his monthly expenses starting this time next month. I’m sure we’ll need more than what we estimated for the first month’s vetting needs but will have a better idea of this tomorrow.

Theresa

Cisco is feeling better. His lab work came back yesterday and he’s dealing with sand in his gut (he’s been oiled) and a heavy parasite load which we will tackle slowly. He’s such a sweet boy and is just a joy to be around. He’s more active and alert – it’s really great to see!

I’ll get better pictures tomorrow – I spent much of today trying to resolve computer issues – now I’m having camera issues!

Thank you all for keeping Cisco in your prayers.

We were asked a few days ago to help a 20 yr old Clydesdale gelding. He was a rescue – the person that took him in rehabilitated him and he was doing well. But then owner went back to nursing school and found she could no longer afford to care for him. She found him a new home but there was a horse there that decided she didn’t like him. He got beat up pretty bad and when his previous owner found out what happened she took him back but he now needs a home ASAP. We haven’t met him but his owner says he’s very sweet and is low – like at the bottom. We’re told he’s very laid back and is a very nice boy – he just needs to find the right forever home where he won’t be picked on.

Morgan LaFaye went to her new forever home yesterday and Willow will be leaving this coming Wednesday. This frees up some space.

We would like to help this horse but to do that we need sponsors to help with his care. Pam is taking Willow to her new home on Wednesday – this Clyde is close to her destination so Pam could pick him up on the way back and bring him to the rescue. Would anyone like to help us to help this handsome boy?

If anyone would like to help with a one time donation or sign up to be a monthly sponsor please email me at bhfer. No amount is too small and all donations are tax deductible. God bless and thank you!

PS – Morgan seems very happy in her new home with her new best friend!

Theresa

Dr. Ryan tubed and oiled Cisco. Blood work was done. He thinks Cisco is just gassy. Cisco has passed poop a few times today. He’s going to stay in a stall for awhile so we can monitor his water intake, etc. He’s such a good boy about everything. I would love to know about his past. He’s got beautiful, wise, and kind eyes.

I am going to dinner with my son at the AMVETS but Bob, Kylie, and Barbara are here. I won’t be gone long and I’ll have my cell phone with me. I don’t get out much and when Joshua asked me to go I said “Yes!” I’ll update again tonight though. Maybe I can get my camera to communicate with my computer and post better pictures.

Thank you all for saying prayers for Cisco. He’s a gem!

Theresa
