Magic was quite a bit more animated this morning – it was great to see! He got his meds and then made it was clear he wanted to go out.

He even make a few silly faces at me.

Magic passed some poop overnight and after talking with Dr. Ryan about it we decided to turn him out.

We are hoping being out today helped him mentally and physically. He’s not acting uncomfortable in any way and I did hear him pass some gas this am when he took off as I let his gate open. We are praying the impaction is history. I tucked him in a bit ago. We’ll keep watch on him again through the night and assess him again in the am. Maybe tomorrow he can be done with his meds and the catheter can come out. Dr. Ryan may want to run another CBC. Please continue to keep Magic in your prayers.

The bad news of today is Penelope. She always greets us at the side door each am with a beautiful donkey morning song. But this am she was laying at the bottom of the stairs. Poor little Penny was trying to nurse with no luck. Penny was tubed and oiled and has passed poop – she never stopped doing that. Colic isn’t happening just here is all over. The vets can’t keep up with the calls. It’s amazing what a change in weather can do. We had been keeping an eye on Little E – he is usually the one that has an issue with the change of weather but he has been doing just fine. Please pray for Penelope and Penny.

We’ve had so many things going on here – I want to share it all but there is not enough time. Here’s a few pictures of Genesis. Saturday am he took feed tubs out of the back of the golf cart looking for any morsel he could find.

Today meeting Sue and accepting a treat or two.

Genesis getting some attention from Saturday volunteers! Everyone loves him.

And this evening resting.

Dr. Bess was out this past week and was doing Lace’s teeth when Blackie decided he wanted to go into the trailer too! Notice the white butt but the black head with fly mask peeking around the corner. He’s something else. They are both looking for a home(s).

Tomorrow we will be announcing another fundraiser to help with Penelope and Magic’s vet bills. If anyone would like to help you can call a donation in directly to Peterson & Smith at 352-237-6151. Donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Please “share” us with your friends and family. We’ve recently had some pretty major expenses come up. Thank you, God bless and have a good night.

Sincerely,
Theresa

As of late evening Magic had not passed more poop. He wasn’t drinking nearly enough. We opted to run more fluids and not long after I started the fluids he passed a big wet pile of poop. Took awhile but fluids are done and meds have been given. He also made one more little pile of wet poop while he was getting fluids.

I really wanted to post an update on many other horses here but have run out of energy. We have some good news to share. I’ll try to get it posted tomorrow. I’m so sorry if I haven’t responded to emails – just need some time in the office. Also, if anyone would like to help by calling a credit in directly to the clinic (Peterson & Smith) is 352-237-6151.

Thanks and have a good night everyone.

Theresa

WE HAVE OIL!!! What a wonderful way to start out the day!

Magic can’t be turned out for another 24 hours but if all keeps going well I’ll get good pictures of him being turned out tomorrow. I let him out to his porch area right outside of his stall where he’ll be confined for now but he trotted out with his tail in the air – he’s got a lot of stored up energy and is ready to go!

Artist Greg Ambrose sent me this late last night – I think it’s awesome! Blue skies and green grass for our Magic today!

Thank you God for answering prayers and thank all of you that have been sending good thoughts and prayers! He’s still got some oil to clear and we need to make sure his tummy is processing ok so the next 24 hours are important. We’ll likely do one more CBC tomorrow before taking him off the Gentocin (antibiotic). If all is well, and Dr. Eric or Ryan advises, I’ll pull the catheter tomorrow and turn Magic out – I can’t wait!

And today is our son’s 24th birthday! It’s a good day – a very good day already filled with many blessings! Now I’m going to make Magic a nice little mash which I’m sure he’ll devour. Have a wonderful day everyone!

It’s been a long day here. Well, a long couple of days really. Dr. Ryan is off for the weekend so Dr. Eric Evans came out to treat Magic today. Once again, Magic did really well and we’re very proud of him. He was refluxed and oiled. A catheter was inserted so I could run him fluids. It’s thought that he has an impaction. He is passing poop but it’s pretty dry. There was nothing alarming in Magic’s blood work yesterday or today which is good.

There were guns being shot down the road from us today. I guess it’s hunting season for something.

It didn’t rain here today. But look what I found when I looked out to check on Magic – a beautiful double rainbow that started, or stopped, in the field next to Magic!

Just got finished running Magic a few more bags of fluids. Bob and I are both pretty tired and need to get a few hours of sleep. Barbara is here this weekend. Dr. Eric will likely be out again tomorrow.
I’ll update again tomorrow.

Have a blessed night everyone. Please continue to keep Magic in your prayers. Thank you.

Magic was up and down again late evening. No rolling or pawing. I spoke with Dr. Ryan and gave Magic some Banamine. He seems comfortable now.

Tonight, for the first time since this all started, I heard some tummy sounds. I’ll update again in the morning. Have a good night everyone. Thank you for your continued prayers.

So glad to report that Magic has passed poop – twice! We don’t see any oil yet but it’s coming! He’s going to be ok. He just has to be!

Please check out the auction item posted this afternoon on our Facebook pages of a beautiful new leather headstall with "Bling" on it! It was graciously donated by Valerie Carter. Funds will be used to help to pay Magic’s vet bill.

Prayers answered! I’m a very proud momma! One of the things I really like about Dr. Ryan Meeks is that he listens. He understands that I know Magic better than anyone. We did things just the way I suggested in order to keep Magic calm and it went great. When Magic started to get a little upset I asked Dr. Ryan to leave the stall. Magic settled, I reassured him all was well, and then Dr. Ryan came back in. We did that a couple of times and Magic finally calmed. Dr. Ryan agrees that nobody knows their horse better than the primary caregiver. Listening to your horse is just as important as whispering, IMO. Magic was refluxed and oiled. Blood was drawn for various tests.

Dr. Ryan has been very patient with Magic in trying to earn his trust over the past few years and today was a major breakthrough. The last time Dr Ryan tried to work with Magic, Magic almost went over a round pen panel. Magic is not a “normal” horse and can’t be treated as such. He was mentally scared for life before coming to the rescue. He will never forget the things done to him in the past but he is learning to forgive. Bob and Jenny stayed just outside Magic’s area and did just what was asked – I don’t think it could have gone any better. Patience, trust, and teamwork go a long way!

He needs to pass poop. It’s been over 15 hours since he last pooped.

Thank you all for caring – please keep Magic in your prayers. He’s not out of the woods by far.

Theresa

Please pray for Magic. He’s been colicing since last evening. He was passing poop but seemed gassy. After getting some medications he seemed tired but more comfortable. Jenny came and sat with him from about 10:30 last night until 2:00 am so we could get a couple of hours of sleep. But then Magic took a turn for the worse around 5 am. We are waiting for Dr. Ryan. He’s been out on colic’s all night – he’s treated 6 colic’s in the last 24 hours. I won’t be in the office again today but will have my phone.

Most of you know that Magic won’t accept handling by others. We’re working through some of this and he is better. Last night I had to give him his meds but now we need Magic to accept Dr. Ryan. Please pray that he will allow Dr. Ryan to do what is needed to get him better. I’m on my way back out now to sit with him. He’s down resting. He looks tired and I’m sure he is we all are. If I get him up he will walk a little and then lay back down. Please keep us in your prayers. This horse went through hell and back before he came to the rescue. And as you can imagine, I love this horse tremendously. Many do.

It is my understanding that networking efforts have paid off and that the gelding is being picked up tonight. Keeping him in my prayers though! From the person that came across this horse and called to see if we could help to everyone that has networked and helped in some way – God bless and thank you all!

If you shared it out please share this latest news too so efforts be channeled to the next one that may need help!

We have an emergency situation in Christmas, FL. The information I’m providing was passed on to us – we have not seen this horse personally.

Appendix gelding – around 20 years old.

Has diarrhea that looks to have some blood in it.

Looks to be a 1 on the Henneke scale.

The owner wants to surrender him now.

Is there anyone that can help? It makes me sad to say this but we are full.

If anyone can help please contact Melissa at bhfer.melissa.

Theresa
