Dr. Porter (PHD Veterinary Services) was out yesterday to reassess Cookie and to do another set of x-rays on her front feet.  She is in very good spirits,  her appetite is great, and she still adores attention!  Another set of x-rays indicated that there has been a bit more rotation.  Also, she is having issue with abscesses that need to resolve as there is risk for infection which could make its way to the coffin bone which could be a very bad thing.  Dr. Porter wants Cookie to wear Soft-Ride boots so we placed an overnight order for a new pair (for a narrow-long size 6) because the pair we had for her to use are too small.

Cookie and Porter 2nd Set

If anyone can help Cookie with her vet and related expenses it would truly be appreciated – no amount is ever considered as being too small.  Tax deductible donations can be made via our website at www.bhfer.org.  Our PayPal address is bhfer@earthlink.net.  You can also click on the DONATE button below.  If donating via PayPal, please designate your donation to ‘Cookie.’ If you select the tab for ‘Friends or Family,’ no fees will be deducted from your contribution.

Thank you all for your continued love and support.  We are most confident that our amazing little village will come forth once again to help Cookie.

“Yummy! I love my milk!”
Whiskers Whiskers
So now you know how he got his name.  🙂

A “Cricket Dance” natural! Baby Whiskers had a great night and was full of himself this morning! There must be something in his milk that we don’t know about!
Whiskers1

We appreciate Kylie staying with him last night. We will be on babysitting duty for the next few nights – at least until he’s comfy. I hope his momma is relieved to see how well he is adjusting. Please watch the short video which was taken this morning of Baby Whiskers doing the ‘Cricket Dance” and for those of you who don’t know what a “Cricket Dance” is, well, just watch!

Please remember to vote as we are slowly closing the gap between first and second place! One vote every 24 hours through July 31st may enable us to win this contest! And don’t forget to share amongst family and friends as well. Winning $10K for the horses would help so much. We have never been fortunate enough to win anything close to this amount. Even though it is a constant and exhausting struggle trying to raise money and take care of the horses all day long, it is truly worth every moment, knowing that we are making a difference in the life of each and every equine that enters through our gates. We are Beauty’s Haven Farm and Equine Rescue, a place where ‘Life begins, again!’

Since Bob had his heart attack, things have been a bit more challenging, but thankfully, he’s slowly getting better. However, more of my time is spent working outside which leaves very little opportunity to be at the computer or in the office to plan fundraising activities and elicit donations which have gone down dramatically. We are a small grassroots organization which consists of Bob and I who work 24/7/365, plus a few very special volunteers.  We normally have volunteer help approximately six hours a day, a few days a week. On some days, however, we have no help at all. So please believe me when I say, every vote helps!

Thank you for your support!

Tropical Storm Colin is coming – currently heading on a direct path to the rescue. We are hunkering down and I may be offline much of the time but please remember to vote once everyday. Its a free and easy way to help win $10K for the animals! PLEASE today and everyday through July 31st vote for us! If we were to win this it would help the horses tremendously. So please, vote.  And, sharing out and asking others to vote and share daily, making this go viral, is the ONLY way we can win the contest.

Colin

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we get through the next couple of days of rough weather hopefully, without incident.  And we will do the same for all of you – stay safe!  Thank you.

How do you get ADHD donkeys to stop long enough to pay attention? Just watch!  Guaranteed to make you smile! Want to spread the smiles? It’s free and easy – PLEASE today and everyday through July 31st and share and ask family and friends to vote for Beauty’s Haven Farm and Equine Rescue to help win $10,000 for the horses! And ask them to share and ask their friends to share and vote too. Sharing out, making this go viral with others, is the ONLY way we can win the contest!

Donks

The stress that comes with what we do is high, constantly, due to the amount of funds it takes to do what we do – many horses (and donks and whatever else comes into our path) need help. The rewards are great seeing the animals recover and find their forever home. Or, in some cases, live out their life here – horses like our little Betsy Rose that are too frail and have special needs. It takes a Village! Please help us to help more like JoJo and Jazzy – they were both orphans when they came to us. JoJo and Jazzy asked me to share this video with you in hopes it will make you smile and hopefully vote today and everyday through July 31st.

So many people say they love what we do – and we appreciate that but we need your support in this effort. Please help us do this – for the horses. Sharing and asking others to vote daily, and share, is going to be key. Thank you – have a blessed day.
PS – we do not receive any local, state, or Federal funds. We operate totally from donations.

Peek-a-boo! So thankful that Sawyer is still with us. He gave us all quite a scare with his epileptic seizures a couple of weeks ago. He’s a wise old soul who is as kind as can be.

Remember when Betsy Rose received a new gift/friend named Bunny? She has so many friends! Right now, they are all tucked in as the storms are coming.
BetsyPinkToy

Remember the day last August when some of the long ears (and Foxy) gathered around – from big to small? I miss Matilda and am so thankful for the time we had with her. Mocha and Daisy are looking for a forever home as pets – they are adorable. And little Foxy – she’s loving life with her mom at their forever home with Bill and Judy

Winds have started to pick up. We are hunkering down and I may be offline much of the time.  We are in the path of Tropical Storm Colin.

Betsy Rose got to go out between the bands of rain today. She’s all tucked in her stall now as JoJo, Jazzy, and CaryLou keep her company. The winds are up. The rains are coming down. This needs to be over.

June 7th…

Calling it a day here. We’re still a bit tired from all of the activity from Tropical Storm Colin, even though it wasn’t too very bad. Ruby and Cookie wouldn’t allow Little E and Peaches in the shelter so we had to move horses around – it’s just been exhausting. But no complaints – everyone is safe and there is no property damage! But now, I hear there may be another storm on the horizon! I hope that’s a rumor!

Remember Montana?
Montana before

A call to authorities from someone who saw a thin, sad, and not so healthy horse chained to a shed led us to this sweet boy. After a couple of weeks of driving by, seeing his health continually decline, they called authorities. Of course, we would take him. He recovered nicely and is now living a life of luxury.  Montana and others are living the good life now thanks to help from supporters!  We couldn’t do it without you!
Montana Lexi

Her registered name was Point to Ponder. We lovingly called her “My Girl.” She was a young, brave, and beautiful TB that was raced 12 times in 8 months before coming to Beauty’s Haven. I’ll let the short video tell the rest of the story. This was a case that reminded us that sometimes doing what is right means letting go – it may be the greatest gift of love there is….
MyGirl

We’ve helped many horses – all with stories we could share. And all of the help we’ve provided to them was made possible because of our village of supporters. We operate totally from donations from the public. There are many more equines that need help.  We know you can’t always donate – but now there is a free and easy way to help the horses!

We are competing in a contest to win $10K for the horses and we are in 3rd place! It’s a free and easy way to help if you use Facebook! Please help us win this by voting once everyday through July 31st. And what would help, very much, is if you share it out to family and friends and ask them to vote and share as well – this needs to go viral! Post it on multiple media platforms – and ask others to vote and share!  Instructions are below and here is the link to vote. Link to vote:  http://wshe.es/65VvE5f1

Betsy Rose’s X-rays
Friday, 16 January 2015
Betsy Rose has been having discomfort mostly in her front feet – mostly the right but she’d shift back and forth between both feet at times and she was laying down more than normal. It started a couple of days after her last hooficure about this time last month. It rained for 2 days after that hooficure. Then Betsy became lame and we thought there may have been an abscess brewing. She did, in fact, pop an abscess in the front right a few days later and she got somewhat better but she still wasn’t herself. We’re always concerned about laminitis so to be sure there was nothing else going on in her feet we opted to have Dr. Porter do some x-rays while he was here on Friday to treat Daisy. We were relieved to see there is no new rotation.
X-rays provided helpful information and the farrier will be here on Wednesday to make some adjustments to Betsy’s feet. And, while Dr. Julia Simonson is here tomorrow to work (acupuncture/massage/chiro) on Matilda, she will also be doing some acupuncture on Betsy Rose. Before coming to us in June 2013, Betsy Rose had suffered. She endured things no horse should ever have to experience. But she is a survivor with a will to live and love beyond measure – she beat the odds. When she arrived, she was too weak to stand and weighed just over 200 lbs. She lived in a sling for the first two months which meant 24/7 hands-on care. Treating bed sores, hand feedings, cleaning her up when she would go to the bathroom, syringing water to her, moving and massaging her legs, helping her to rise and walk in the sling/gantry and, eventually, out of the sling, and much more – her rehab was very intense, time consuming, and exhausting but we held her together. And she held us together – we love her so much! The life lessons she has taught us, and continues to teach us, are worth more than any amount of gold. She believes… And she has taught many others to believe. We’re so very proud of her!
This was Dr. Meeks examining Betsy Rose – the prognosis was poor. Very poor. But it was clear that Betsy Rose wasn’t ready to give up.I made a promise to this little mare the first day she was with us. I promised her that we would do everything we could to make her tomorrow’s everything her past should have been.
The day that Betsy Rose arrived, I apologized to her for how humans had failed her. And then I made a promise to her – I promised her that we would do everything we could to make all of her tomorrow’s everything her past should have been.
We’ll keep you updated with her progress. I know she’ll feel better after her treatment tomorrow – she always does. Some of you may not know Betsy Rose’s story. It’s been an incredible journey. From the day she arrived until 2 months later – here is a video of her first time walking and grazing unassisted – enjoy! Betsy Rose Video

Thank you all for your support – without you we couldn’t do what we do! If you would like to help with Betsy Rose’s x-rays or holistic treatments, any amount of a donation would help. No amount is too small and donations are tax deductible.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Dr. Ryan will be back out tomorrow to examine Mollie’s eyes again and to run more blood work. Mollie is still passing sand in her poop. Her appetite is great. She didn’t get much exercise today because of the weather.

Mollie’s eyes are both cloudy. She’s pretty good about getting her eye meds, thankfully.

Donovan… isn’t he handsome?

Fiona is so sweet. She’s come so far in trust – she approaches and follows me now. Her and Dayo come running when they hear me call (likely because they know they are about to get hay) out to them. The sound of them running across the pasture is simply awesome. If all goes well, both will be at their new homes next week. This has been quite the adventure!

Betsy Rose – what a determined little mare. She was skin on bones and it’s amazing she survived. She has been nothing but determined to make it through her rehab and recovery. She is a great source of encouragement for us. She believes… This photo was taken back in July.

A lovely article about another miracle we were blessed to experience – Baby Girl.

Sincerely,

Theresa

Betsy Rose and Bunny

“Betsy Rose I’m so happy to be here! I’ve heard so much about you from Auntie Barbara! How do you like my bunny outfit? Mommy Theresa – can you please come over and pick me up and turn me over? I want you both to see what is on my shirt!”

Betsy Rose and Bunny

“I BELIEVE!”

Bunny Believes

“I’ve learned that if we believe many things are possible! I never stopped believing that I would have a family that would love me no matter how old I am. And look what happened!!! I have a HUGE family!! Is it ok if we call you Bunny? I have a lot of friends – well, they are family now. And you can be part of our family too!”

Betsy Rose and Bunny

“That’s so nice of you, Betsy Rose, and YES, I would love to be part of the Beauty’s Haven family! Do you think the others will like me? I’m a big fan of Freckles too!”

Betsy Rose and Bunny

“Of course they will like you! Raggedy Ann is going to adore you! Mommy Theresa, please can you take Bunny to my room so she can meet the others? They are all in there trying to come up with stories to tell tonight after you humans go to bed!”

Betsy Rose and Bunny

This is Pink Pony that we are calling Bunny. She is adorable!

And the “I Believe!” on her outfit is beautiful! She fits in here perfectly!  Yes, there really is a horse under those bunny ears!  lol

August 27th, 2013

“Good morning everyone! Betsy Rose here! I wanted to pop in and thank everyone for caring about me and my friend, Freckles. Guess what? We have presents to open today! I saw a couple of boxes Mommy Theresa put in the tack room and wondered what they were. We get to find out later today! Anyway, I just wanted thank everyone.

If you don’ t mind, please take a minute to vote for us on the TSC and Bank contests. With your help I believe we CAN win! I know it would take a lot of worry off Mommy Theresa’s plate. I heard her say the cold season is coming and we’re going to need a lot of hay. And if you ask your family and friends to vote, that would help a lot. I’m alive today because a lot of you helped with my care – many good things can happen when we all work together. Mommy Theresa says it takes a village! I believe we can win – please, believe with me and vote!”

Betsy Rose

“Remember when I came here I said, “I CAN DO THIS!? Well I am doing it – and I want to help other horses by telling the world about what happened to me. I have to go now – it’s feeding time – but I’ll be back later. Have a good day!”

Betsy Rose laid down and got up all by herself!!!!!

WE ARE SO PROUD OF BETSY ROSE!  This is the little mare that “did!”

She got up on her own!

We won’t get much sleep tonight – Betsy Rose does NOT want to be tucked in her sling. She will be on the monitor by the bed so we can see her all of the time and I’m sure I’ll have my eyes on it most of the night! This is a big night Big for her and her BFF Freckles is still jumping around for joy!

Believe!
