It’s me, Hope! Did you know that on Thursday, a ‘controlled burn’ happened next door and went out of control and flames came over to our farm? It was so scary because it was very windy. I became less scared when Mommy Theresa told me that I did a great job helping to raise money for our hay run last week! It made me feel really good so I asked Auntie Jeanne if I could help again this week and she said, ‘Yes!’ We go through lots of hay during the wintertime because the grass does not grow so, if anyone would like to help with this week’s hay run, it would make me and all of my horsey and donkey friends (and Mommy Theresa) so very happy! And guess what? A very special Auntie has offered to match all donations up to $500!

Love,
Hope

I have an announcement to make!!!! Are you ready to listen up? Did you know that I have a new big brother and a big sister? I do! They arrived last night and I can’t wait to meet them! Mommy Theresa said they’re really nice. Their human mommy passed away and they needed a place to go – isn’t that sad? We’ll make them feel right at home. Stay tuned – I’ll tell you more about them after the morning busys around here! That means it will probably be late afternoon. We’ll post pictures too!

Love,
Hope

Uh Oh!

JoJo just discovered that the golf cart was broken and so it has therefore, been sent to the repair shop. When a wonderful friend and supporter learned of this latest setback, she came forth to offer a $300 Match Game to assist with the repairs. If anyone would like to help get the golf cart ‘on the road again,’ it would truly, make two little donkeys, as well as all the humans here at Beauty’s Haven, very happy indeed! You may forward your donation via various means here on our website’s Donation Page. Please note that your donation is for the ‘Golf Cart Match Game.’

Thank you for your continued generosity & support!

Sincerely,
Theresa

Prayers do get answered! We had several gallons of fly spray delivered on Thursday!
We truly needed this item so very badly.

Many, many, many, thanks to the awesome donor!

Theresa & the “Velvet Nosers”

I’ve been meaning to share an update about Max for over a week now, but we’ve been super busy. Max had surgery a few days ago to have a large tumor removed from his right hip. He was supposed to have surgery weeks ago but it was rescheduled to a date TBD by UF. The tumor was getting larger and Max was becoming pretty uncomfortable – we felt that Max simply couldn’t wait any longer. Thankfully, Dr. Schirmer at West End Animal Hospital in Newberry, took on Max’s case.

Surgery lasted almost two hours, but Dr. Schirmer and his staff did a great job. Max stayed at the hospital for a couple of days and came home this past Friday.

He wasn’t able to get up or walk at first, but he’s gradually getting better. We help him get up by supporting him with a sling in order to put him into Hope’s wheelchair.

His eyes are bright again and today, he barked at someone going down the road for the first time since he’s been home!

Max has watched over this herd for the last 10+ years and deserves to stick around as long as he is comfortable. He’s more comfortable now than he was before surgery and he should have many more years with us. He watches over the farm every night and alerts us to anything amiss. He’s awesome and we all love him dearly. I’ll update more about his progress whenever I can.

If you would like to forward a donation to assist with the cost of Max’s surgery, please click the button below and be sure to designate your donation to ‘Max.’ All donations are tax deductible and no amount is ever too small.

Thank you, all, so very much!

Blessed

Hi Everyone,
I hope this newsletter finds you all safe during these most challenging times. We have been hunkered down here at the farm as we practice social distancing with our wonderful team of volunteers who bravely, come out to assist us with the herd. It is with great hope that you will find some peace and joy as you read this update about our beloved ‘Velvet Nosers.’

Warmly,
Theresa

The Friendship Tree

This tree has been home to many friendships. These are some of our seniors – Little E, Niña, Peggy Sue, and Bria having a post breakfast gathering.

Bria’s Happy Feet

Bria is very beautiful and a very sweet mare. She still has to wear her SoftRides 24/6 but she doesn’t seem to mind at all.

Keeping Cool

Little Tilly has COPD. She hangs out at the barn on the days that are a bit challenging for her. She has a Portacool available to her but she prefers the shade of the tree.

Warrior, on the other hand, really appreciates the Portacoolers since he doesn’t sweat at times and also has seasonal airway issues.

Grateful

We are really appreciating the Carryall 700 that was donated to the rescue a couple of months ago. It saves a lot of time since we only have to make one trip to give out hay instead of 2 or 3 with a golf cart.

Shadow

Lastly, what would an update be without featuring Shadow!

Shadow was recently gifted a cooling mat which he truly loves! His training has been going very well. He is such an awesome dog who is always smiling for the camera!

Hi Everyone,

How about some VERY good news for a change? Beauty’s Haven was gifted a brand new Club Car Carryall 700! It’s going to save us so much time! The long bed can carry many more hay bags, feed tubs, blankets, supplies, etc. than the golf carts we have. The bed tilts with the push of a button!

Annie – God bless you and thank you so much! This is a true blessing! We also very much appreciate Cart World Golf Cars for working with us on the final price and for delivering it!

Snug as a Bug!

The little ones were very happy to get their new sheets. Thank you to Cindy R., Cindy S. and Darlene S., for helping to keep our wee ones as ‘Snug as a Bug in a Rug.’
I’ll get pics of the others when I can. They are adorable.

It’s been a bit stressful these last few days preparing for Hurricane Dorian. Jazzy made sure everyone had their ID collars and halters on and our phone number written on one of their hooves.

Fortunately, with its change of direction, Dorian didn’t have a direct impact on us. We did experience heavy rains, but that’s much better than being directly in Dorian’s path.

It was a huge relief, and blessing, to have been able to procure much needed propane, hay, grain, and medical and other supplies. We were running low on everything – especially propane and medical supplies. We lose power often due to the many storms that pass through – and there’s still a couple months left of the hurricane season. Any funds that were donated to help with hurricane needs, that have not been spent, will be put into an emergency account for the next time we need propane for the generators.

While we are very happy that the hurricane changed its course, we are very sad for those that have been impacted by Dorian. Our prayers go out to them.

We truly appreciate everyone’s support, very much. Our village is amazing – Thank you all!

Hey Everyone!

It’s me, Hope! Mommy Theresa is very busy taking care of me and all my horsey and donkey friends so I thought it would be nice to help her raise funds for our weekly Hay Run. Since we have just enough hay to last the night, Daddy Bob needs to go to the store tomorrow to purchase a ton of three string orchard hay which costs $610.  If anyone would like to help with this need, we would be forever grateful!

Contributions can be made via various secure means on our website, CLICK HERE. Please note in the ‘Comments’ section that your donation is for ‘Hay.’  All contributions are so greatly appreciated, and please be assured, that no amount is ever too small.

Thank you!

Love and kisses,
Baby Hope
