Kiana, a two week old orphan paint filly came to us in the spring of 2014. Her mom had given her everything she had until she succumbed to starvation. The filly tried to survive by nursing off another mare, but that mare rejected her. Kiana was a confused little girl – you could clearly see that in her eyes.

We didn’t hesitate to take her to the rescue. It was obvious that her immune system was very weak and her heart was broken. Theresa saw this baby as a divine little lost angel and vowed to help her after humans had failed both her and her mom. The name “Kiana” came to Theresa one night while sitting with the filly. Theresa promised her that her life would only get better. “Kiana” means divine or heavenly in Hawaiian. It fits her perfectly.

Kiana’s rehab went well and she grew up to be a happy mare.  She received training and has found her forever home.
