Aaleyah Belle and Momma Sue arrived at Beauty’s Haven on May 3, 2008, just hours after the filly’s birth. Aaleyah was born with a wry nose and was therefore, unwanted by her owner that was an irresponsible Thoroughbred backyard breeder. Had Beauty’s Haven not intervened, both this precious filly and her mom would have been shot. Tragically, on this very same day, Eight Belles lost her life while running in the Kentucky Derby. In honor of Eight Belles, Theresa named the filly Aaleyah Belle. After several weeks at the rescue, Aaleyah Belle, accompanied by Momma Sue, was admitted to the University of Florida where she had surgery to correct her deformity. Aaleyah Belle, the determined little filly that never gave up, so enjoys her life at Beauty’s Haven and loves to give sloppy kisses to everyone she meets.
