“Mommy Theresa, does this little guy look like me? Even if he does, there’s only one me, right? Is he going to stay? Jazzy and I think he really wants a home of his own!”

JoJo Mini Me 3

Mini Me JoJo is adorable! He even likes to help out in the office! He would make a great addition to any family.

JoJo is too big to come into the office now, but when he used to do so, he was very helpful. And whenever I worked on the computer, he asked a bazillion questions. He’s a hoot!

JoJo’s Mini Me is looking forward to having his own human family soon. He wants a home before the holidays, which will be here before we know it!

September 21st…

JoJo was looking for anyone who would play ball today.

JoJo Ball

Many thanks to Judy for clipping Sawyer again – he feels so much better and he looks great! Judy is Timmie and Foxy’s adoptive mom. Judy has clipped Sawyer a couple of times this year – he gets pretty shaggy as he has cushings. We’re so blessed that he’s still with us – he had some bad seizures a few months ago and it wasn’t looking good. But he didn’t give up and he’s doing great!

September 24th…

Elizabeth and Bri surprised us and came out to spend the day! We had a great time – it’s always wonderful to see them.  Waylon really enjoyed some extra attention from Bri.

Waylon Bri

“Mommy Theresa it wasn’t me!  That big hole dug by the gate – that was Jazzy’s doing!  I told him not to do it but he wouldn’t listen.  I tried putting all the dirt back in the hole.  And then I rolled around and around to flatten it out so nobody would notice and so Jazzy wouldn’t get in trouble but there’s not enough dirt.  I don’t know where it went!”

JoJo's Wasn't Me

I wonder if JoJo realizes that he’s wearing the missing dirt?!

We apologize for the delay in this and the next couple of updates that didn’t go out on time.

September 16th…

Some wonderful news to share about Spirit – she’s ready to go to her new forever home!  As soon as we raise funds for her journey to Oklahoma, she will be on her way!  Her wonderful adopter has experience with blind horses and the perfect pasture awaiting her arrival! Spirit will even have her very own donkey friend!

Spirit

Everyone loves Lucy! We appreciate Foxy and Timmie’s mom, Judy, volunteering her time to hold horses for the farrier.

Poor Jingle! The equine complained that it wasn’t fair that the bovine did not have to wear a fly mask. So……

Beauty’s Haven participated in the Equine Trail Sports Obstacle Course event at Black Prong this past weekend where our wonderful volunteers served breakfast and lunch.

Obs Challenge

All proceeds from the breakfast and lunch went to Beauty’s Haven and $400 was raised to help the horses! Many thanks to ETS, Black Prong, our awesome volunteers, and everyone that made this happen!

Members from Animal Warriors spent a good part of the day helping out – we got some projects done and some of the horses even got a bath! Animal Warriors is a group of like minded individuals from all walks of life who share a common goal of helping animals with active volunteer groups.  All of the horses really enjoyed the extra attention.

JoJo opted to lead the group on a tour. He’s such a big little helper! He even kept his flymask on!

Mishka got lots of attention – he’s a really big guy.  His name suits him well – it means “teddy bear.”

Mishka also got a bath which he truly enjoyed!

August 20th…
Spirit was great for Dr. Mangan! She’s such a sweet mare. She can’t see anything out of her right eye. Her left eye can distinguish light from dark.  Spirit was one of our rescues that was adopted out a couple of years ago.  She went to live with another blind horse. Sadly, the adopter recently passed away and both mares came here.
Penny was also really good for Dr. Mangan – she is definitely blind in both eyes
Penny is a 29 year old Belgian that came to us because her owner passed away.  She needs sponsors to help with her daily care.  If anyone would like to help with her please let us know.  Even a one time donation of any amount would help – click on the “Donate” button below. Thank you.

“Good morning everybody! I’m baby Whiskers but I’m growing up! Did you know that I heard the volunteers talking about changing my name to Gator? I think it’s because I like to go around and “chomp, chomp” on just about anything I can put in my mouth!  But no worries – mommy Theresa says we won’t change it!”
August 22nd
“Hi everyone! It’s me – JoJo! How do you like my smile? I’m smiling because it’s a brand-new day!  We have to go now because we want to say, ‘Hi’ to Daisy and Mocha. They are going to be leaving one day soon.”

August 23rd
Spirit gets dirtier than any horse I’ve ever known. lol
At times, Whiskers is like the Energizer bunny that doesn’t slow down – long ears and all!
It seems that Whiskers legs grow inches overnight!
It’s not unusual to find CaryLou on the porch of the storage building. He’s been coughing a bit more lately as he has a collapsing trachea. It is better though – I haven’t seen him fall over like a fainting goat in quite sometime!.

August 17th…
Daisy and Mocha are getting ready to go to their adoptive home. Dr. Julia did a new coggins on the girls today and they also received their scheduled vaccinations. Tomorrow, they will get a hooficure. I’m going to miss these girls tremendously. Daisy’s story is nothing short of a miracle. I’ll post a short story in the next few days about Daisy and her tumors – from the day we met her to the present. You’ll be amazed!
I gave Betsy Rose a much needed bath today. She had a treatment by Dr. Julia yesterday. Betsy is getting stronger again, thankfully. She has laid down twice in the past week and was able to get up on her own and when she had her hooficure, she did not need the sling!
Betsy Rose was doing well but sustained an injury this past December when a vet who was not familiar with her, tried to sedate her while I went to the tack room to get something. At the time, he was treating Betsy for choke. Betsy almost flipped over backwards when she felt the needle and ended up tearing a muscle and re-injuring an old pelvic fracture. It was so unavoidable – all you have to do is stand behind her and put a hand on each of her hips and she’s fine for needles. I’ll never leave her alone again with anyone not familiar with her history.
Whiskers is so helpful – he loves to dust everything! And he loves to pull the flymaks out of the soaking tub and spread them all over the place. He also loves to play with hoses, ropes, and sponges. My little helper is also getting quite tall! I also want to share some very good news! Whiskers likely has an adoptive home!
I’m really happy to report that Sisco is doing well! He usually can be found hanging out with Mishka.

“Mommy Theresa are you going to post a picture of me in this long nose mask? It’s got pink on it! I’m not going to look up. That way people won’t know it’s me!”
Poor JoJo.
Little E is has a few more gray areas. This aging thing catches up to all of us. He’s still very handsome and quite opinionated.

What was the first thing JoJo did the first time he was turned out around the house when he was a baby? Watch this short video to find out – we hope it makes you smile! Just watch!

What's up those stairs?

It was a long rainy and windy night with Tropical Storm Colin coming through but we got through ok. I hope everyone else did too. We really need help with hay – would anyone like to buy a bale? Even part of a bale?  No amount is too small and every donation is greatly appreciated.

Hay

Each bale is approximately $18 and we need 21 bales = $378. We also need a few bales of coastal which are $7 each = $49. A combined total of $427. The horses would truly appreciate it – so would us humans.

We also need your help to win $10K for the horses. It’s free and easy – PLEASE vote today and everyday through July 31st and then share and ask family and friends to vote for us too!  Sharing out on various media channels, making this go viral, is the ONLY way we can win this. http://wshe.es/65VvE5f1

We don’t receive any local, state, or Federal funds – we operate totally from donations which are tax deductible. Our PayPal address is bhfer@earthlink.net and there are other ways to donate that you can find on our website at www.bhfer.org. If you can help please mark your donation for “Hay”. Thank you.

How do you get ADHD donkeys to stop long enough to pay attention? Just watch!  Guaranteed to make you smile! Want to spread the smiles? It’s free and easy – PLEASE today and everyday through July 31st and share and ask family and friends to vote for Beauty’s Haven Farm and Equine Rescue to help win $10,000 for the horses! And ask them to share and ask their friends to share and vote too. Sharing out, making this go viral with others, is the ONLY way we can win the contest!

Donks

The stress that comes with what we do is high, constantly, due to the amount of funds it takes to do what we do – many horses (and donks and whatever else comes into our path) need help. The rewards are great seeing the animals recover and find their forever home. Or, in some cases, live out their life here – horses like our little Betsy Rose that are too frail and have special needs. It takes a Village! Please help us to help more like JoJo and Jazzy – they were both orphans when they came to us. JoJo and Jazzy asked me to share this video with you in hopes it will make you smile and hopefully vote today and everyday through July 31st.

So many people say they love what we do – and we appreciate that but we need your support in this effort. Please help us do this – for the horses. Sharing and asking others to vote daily, and share, is going to be key. Thank you – have a blessed day.
PS – we do not receive any local, state, or Federal funds. We operate totally from donations.

Zahara’s X-rays were done yesterday. She’s doing well.

Birds everywhere!

Really blessed to have both of our human “kids” home today for awhile!

That famous tongue! Aaleyah Belle loves to slime anyone and everyone.

September 23rd

The Breakfast Club.

Donovan got a “get out of your paddock and roam free” pass today around the house. I think JoJo must have told him there’s something good in the office. I could just picture him making his way up the stairs in one giant step. OMG!

Donovan is one of many horses looking for a forever home. He’s so sweet – I hate to think of him not being here but he deserves his own home.

Lucy getting her morning makeover from Marilyn Doren. Lucy has a trach that gets cleaned each day. Everyone loves Lucy!

Well, I guess it’s official. Fall is here. There are leaves on the ground already. I just hope and pray the green grass sticks around for quite a bit longer.

September 24th

JoJo helping Chris collect feed tubs. He’s a riot!

Betsy Rose and Penny

It’s been a busy week, but we’ve been able to get a couple of needed baths in.  On Monday, I opted to give Waylon a bath, clean his sheath, and check him for a bean. I got three quarters of the way done, but was summoned to do something else. Sue rinsed him off for me – thanks Sue!

We use a great product for sheath cleaning called Healing Tree Sheath Cleaner. It soothes, cleans, and dissolves dirt, grime, etc. and it smells good too! It’s veterinary formulated and the geldings seem to think it’s ok. It comes in a spray bottle which I really like. If you would like to donate this product, it’s available at this link: http://www.besthorseproductsavailable.com/products/go-way-all-natural-repellent-16oz.

Waylon was a pony horse at Calder Race Track but wasn’t wanted anymore. He ended up in a bad situation and was attacked by a stallion that took a chunk out of his backside which has healed nicely. He’s about 19 years young and is one of the sweetest horses you could ever meet! He’s been having a tough time breathing, but with the cooler weather coming, his condition will hopefully, improve.

Ruby, Cookie, and Zahara.

September 25th

Foxy and Zahara love to run along the fence line and play.

September 26th

Paul and Roxy did a great job and had a great deal of fun at the Tack Shack yard sale in Ocala today!

July 22nd, 2013

“I still fit under the golf cart! It makes a great scratching post! I’m a still morphing into a different color. I think I’m going to look like my mommy and she’s beautiful!”

Matilda and Peaches had a hooficure today.

July 23rd

A year ago today Gentleman made his journey to Rainbow Bridge to join his friend, Jake. Life hasn’t been the same here since. The stories don’t come like they used to – the “writer’s block” still lingers. The heart still hurts and the tears still come now and then. GMan was an icon here – he was loved by so many. He had the heart of a champion – he was, and always will be a champion. I still get up each morning and look out the window for him where he used to stand under his tree with his friends. He’s not there – but he is. He always will be.

We love you Gentleman, always.

July 25th

Some of you remember Samantha and Joy, I’m sure. We intercepted Sammi before she got on a truck going to a holding facility where she would have gone to slaughter in 2009. She was very much pregnant. I’ll never forget when Joy was born a couple of months later – she started running around before her feet even hit the ground! They were adopted by a dear friend, Kara that year. Sadly, we lost Sammi last year to bone cancer. But I’m so thankful for the time that Sammi had with Joy and Kara knowing love and TLC.

Kara sent me this lovely photo of Joy yesterday – isn’t she beautiful?

And then there’s Magnum – he’s looking mighty handsome! Melissa and her family adore him.

This photo was taken the day Magnum arrived at the rescue in December 2013.

And we’re very happy for Sophie Blue Eyes. She landed in the arms of her own little boy yesterday in a home where there’s shade! Sophie Blue Eyes is one of the sweetest horses ever. This is what we want for all of them – a loving forever family. They deserve this and its times like this that help us get through the tough times – just look at the smile on her young man’s face!

Foxy loves to be in the middle of everything! Here she is helping Auntie Ruth Wittmann clean Betsy Rose’s stall. lol

July 26th

Why am I not surprised to find him at the bottom of the stairs? lol

July 27th

I’m still a bit under the weather here but I have a Dr’s. appointment tomorrow. In the mean time, I want to remind everyone it’s time for Foxy and Timmie to find their loving, forever home. Foxy’s eye is healed and they are both healthy and ready to go. This is one of the hardest parts of rescue – but they deserve their own human family and home.

We are taking applications on Foxy and Timmy for the next 2 weeks. Please visit our Adoption page and read our adoption criteria. https://www.facebook.com/BHFERAdoptions?fref=ts. If you meet the criteria and are interested in applying please PM me.

Foxy is uphill in this photo which makes her look bigger than she is. She’s like a little pocket rocket all over the place. She’s curious – wants to get into everything!

Sharing some news from Loretta Armstrong! She entered her painting “JoJo and Gentleman” in the County Fair in Amador County, Plymouth, California! She was honored by the “People’s Choice” award. They all loved JoJo and Gentleman!

We will be offering note cards, coasters and other items depicting this lovely artwork. It’s just truly beautiful! JoJo and Gentleman – I just love them, always! Thank you Loretta and congratulations! I so needed a pick me up!

July 28th

Good night everyone!

July 29th

We are now taking applications for Timmie and Foxy! Timmie is a very good mommy and she has a really sweet disposition. Foxy is just a baby – full of energy and curiosity. Timmie is 8 years old and Foxy was born on June 14th, 2015.

Please share their information and help us to find them a perfect forever loving home. Adoption info is pinned at the top of our Adoption page. https://www.facebook.com/BHFERAdoptions?fref=ts

At the end of the day – another storm rolling in. The storms have been horrible lately. I’ve heard many accounts of horses and cows being struck and killed by lightening around this area.

July 30th

It would be so nice is everyday could start like this! I woke up finally feeling better this am. It was a cool morning and did something out of character for me because there is always so much to do. I texted Roe to come for a ride and that’s just what we did!

Bryce has been in training and he came back yesterday. He will be leaving early next week. He’s under saddle now and will continue to have fun learning with his adoptive mom. That’s right! He’s going to have his own human and home!

I have to wonder what Waylon and Bryce were talking about here.

We stopped to let the boys visit a bit with Baby Ray and Mishka.

I think the photo of Waylon stopping by to visit with Sophie is adorable.

It would be even nicer if we could end each day like this. But, after about 20 minutes this morning I had to go to work. But it was wonderful to get out and do this!

Foxy isn’t much bigger than Kitty Cat.

Some of you may remember Lace and Rayo? Well, look at them! I love getting updates on our horses and seeing the happiness they bring to others!

Oh – one more announcement to share before calling it a day. We have an application for JoJo and Jazzy! I get butterflies in my tummy thinking about it but it will all be ok. They will only go to the right home. We’ll be doing a site visit next week and the prospective adopters will be coming to visit. Our boys – I can’t imagine them being gone. But it’s not far from her at all. We’ll see how things pan out.

How JoJo ended up with his flymask like this, well, I have no idea.
