Candace and her mom, Lady Sophia, are doing well at the trainer’s. They’re making new friends and Candace is becoming a bit more independent each day. Amanda Hill (Legacy Hill Sport Horses) is working with Sophia to figure out what she will be happy and comfortable doing. It’s just not the same here at the farm without them, but they are where they need to be to prepare for the next chapter in their life.

We are now accepting adoption applications for Lady Sophia and Candace (to be adopted together) even though they are not yet ready for adoption. Applicants must be experienced with foals and be able to demonstrate their ability to work with both of the girls (natural horsemanship methods only) and continue with their training. Boarding situations will not be considered. Both Candace and Lady Sophia are healthy, kind, smart, honest, and willing to learn. They will make their adoptive human very proud.

Venus & Nadia

These two lovely Arabians still need sponsors to help with their ongoing care. They were adopted out a few years ago but had to return to the rescue a few weeks ago through no fault of their own. Nadia is 21 years young and is truly, a lovely mare. As you can see in this video, Venus, a 32 years young bay, is truly, “Poetry in Motion!”

We can’t do what we do without support from others. And providing proper care of a horse isn’t inexpensive. Please consider making a one time donation or a monthly recurring donation to help these beautiful girls. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Thank you.

Sophie went to keep another horse company for a few months but recently returned. She gets along with everyone and is so very easy to love. She is now looking for a forever home as a companion or trail horse.

Sophie has no sponsors to help with her care. Isn’t there anyone who would like to help with her needs by making a one time or recurring monthly tax deductible donation?

JoJo really does try to help as you can see by clicking here to view his latest ‘Public Service Announcement.’

Hooficures are scheduled for many horses next week. Would anyone like to help? We need to raise $575. Perhaps someone would like to offer a match game? Donations are tax deductible and can be made via various ways on our website at www.bhfer.org/donate. Our PayPal address is bhfer@earthlink.net. If you can help, please note that your donation is for ‘hooficures.’

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and thank you, all, for your continued love and support!

A New Chapter for Sophie II

Yesterday, Sophie and I made a trip to her new home! It’s not far from the rescue and she has a new friend named Dancer. Dancer is a 30+ year young TB that lost her BFF (who was also 30+ years young) a few days ago. Their human mom raised them from babies and Dancer was very, very sad with the loss of her BFF.

A few days ago, one of our vet’s and a farrier, referred Dancer’s owner to us in hope that we would have a horse that could pal up with Dancer – but it had to be just the right horse – a special horse with the right disposition. When I learned of the circumstances, I truly believed that Sophie would be a perfect match and invited Dancer’s mom to come spend time with her. She did, and I saw a new friendship take roots right away, so we opted to give it a try!

I explained to Sophie what was going on as Suzanne helped us get her ready for the short journey to her new home. Sophie walked right onto the trailer with me. When we arrived, she walked off, looked around, and then looked at me as if to say, “I think I’m going to like it here!”

Dancer became more animated by the second and we let the girls meet over the fence. Then we hand grazed them for awhile. When I felt the time was right, we took our leads off and the girls walked off like they’d known each other for years. It was a warm and wonderful feeling!

I stayed for a couple of hours and watched the girls and chatted with Sophie’s new mom – it certainly didn’t seem like we were pretty much strangers. We have a lot in common and could’ve talked for hours. With every adoption, our family just expands!

And so, a new chapter in Sophie’s life begins.

This was Sophie when she came to us in 2015. She was skin on bones and had terrible teeth and feet. With proper TLC, Sophie blossomed into a beautiful and happy mare.

Why did it take so long to find her a home? It had to be the right home and it takes as long as it takes to find that perfect match!

Saving Grace

Baby Ray is home_322pxNovember 9th, 2017

Baby Ray is back from his foster home as Athena, his pasture mate, has been adopted! Baby Ray is now all grown up!  He came to us as a few months old orphan, skin on bones, after having been listed as “Free on Craigslist.” He was born blind due to congenital cataracts. The cataracts were removed at UF and he can now see, albeit he has no lenses and is unable to focus normally.

Little Grace just loves her new home! And her foster family has fallen in love with her – so much so that they are adopting her! Grace has been blessed with her own human family! And we were blessed to be able to help her when she needed us, thanks to the wonderful assistance and support from our village!

Magic is still stunning! Notice the two birds? They are never very far from him. Magic was a bit under the weather for a few days, but thankfully, he is now feeling better.

There must me something magical about the stairs to the office – I never know who I’m going to find there!

These little ones are doing so well. They’re steadily gaining weight and are very happy! Cricket never fails to greet you with a whinny!

We are very thankful to everyone who helped with their needs. They love attention and would make a wonderful addition to a family looking for little ones to love on. If anyone is interested in adopting Jiminy and Cricket,  please read our “Adoption Requirements” in the Notes section on our Beauty’s HavenAdoption Page prior to contacting us.

Penny is such a sweet and trusting girl. She’s a Belgian that was born blind and is about 30 years young. Please consider giving Penny a home for the holidays. She’s an absolutely wonderful and kind mare with lots of love to give.

Zahara

Thoroughbred • Black • Mare • 15 Hh • DOB 2007

Zahara is a stunning black Thoroughbred mare that was born in 2007. We were told that her original owners gave her to someone years ago. In 2012, while at that home, she sustained a neck injury. Dr. Michael Porter took x-rays which indicated a fracture at C-4/5. In 2014, her original owners took her back. Not long thereafter, the owners called Dr. Porter because Zahara was looking poorly. Dr. Porter found her to be very thin and depressed. He called us and asked the question – could we take her?  Of course we would!

Zahara was transported to the rescue where she settled in nicely.  She was vetted, her teeth were done, and her feet were trimmed.  Her rehabilitation program went well. She just needed a proper diet – there was no medical condition that led to her being skin on bones.  Dr. Porter x-rayed her neck to compare it to the original injury and he was amazed at how well it had healed!  She’s a very pleasant and honest mare.  While Zahara will never race, jump, or pull a cart or buggy, she will make a nice trail or companion horse.

Zahara has not as yet been started under saddle. She will require an experienced horse person with a background of training horses using natural horsemanship techniques.  A training plan will be included in the adoption contract. If interested, please take time to read our adoption procedures/requirements information, that can be found on our Adoption Page.
