“Did you know temperatures are dipping down really super cold for the next few nights?

Did you know Mommy Theresa is sick with something called Covid and she’s really worried about us staying warm? She’s been in isolation now since Tuesday and is anxious to get out.

Did you know that if we have hay it will help us stay warm? It’s not too late for us to make a run to the hay store by tomorrow.

Could anyone help us raise $2,005 for ten bales of orchard hay, one ton of alfalfa, two big half pasture bales as well as some coastal hay?

And guess what? Two of my very special aunties have joined together and will match all donations up to $1,150, so not only will you be helping me and my fiends here at Beauty’s Haven, you will double your donation as well!

We don’t even have to fill up the whole hay storage trailer – if we just get it half full, it will last us until Monday.

So, please help if you can. All donations are greatly appreciated and no amount is ever too small!

Have a very Merry Christmas!”

Love,
Jazzy

Every year, we try to help a horse in need over the holidays. This year, we are once again asking for your assistance to help two precious souls that have been stuck in a very bad situation for over a year now. Their owner and the ‘system,’ have failed them terribly, for they should have been removed from their home long ago.

One is a gray 22 year-old Thoroughbred mare who won several thousands of dollars during her racing career. She was neglected and starved repeatedly over many years, but she managed to survive. Sadly, some of her herd members were not as lucky.

The other is an older donkey who is very thin and has foundered at some point in the past. She recently had her baby weaned from her. It’s so terribly sad that she was intentionally bred with her feet being in such poor condition.

Both of these sweet girls need everything – a vet exam, bloodwork, x-rays of their front feet, and supplements. They also need an appointment with the equine dentist and farrier.

It is with great hope that x-rays will determine the path we must take in order to help this sweet donkey. I’m concerned that findings may lead to a poor prognosis, but I’m praying for a miracle which will give us the opportunity to make her comfortable and thereby grant her a good quality of life. She’s in good spirits, but obviously quite uncomfortable.

A wonderful friend and supporter has just come forth and has offered to match all donations up to $300 to help them. Initial needs for each will be at least $500 but it may be more depending upon how many x-rays are needed. They also both need ongoing support for their care. You may help by clicking the button below, please note that your contribution is for “Christmas Saves/Match Game.”

Remi has reached yet another milestone! She’s finally decided that she likes her milk pellets. Soon it will be bye-bye bottle! Remi is a quick learner. She’s very curious and likes to learn and experience new things and she simply, loves to please. She loves to snuggle too! Remi is growing like a weed and it is quite amusing to see her run like the wind when she gets her “zoomies.”

If you click on the image above you will see, firsthand, what a good little girl she is!

When Dr. Julia came out yesterday to examine Jo, Remi got lots of hugs and kisses. The child just plants herself in front of you and gives you that “gotta love me’ look and it’s automatic – you just want to hug her! She wraps everyone around her little hoof.

Remi was a “dummy foal” and didn’t receive colostrum from her mom – she couldn’t nurse. She was in a very bad way when she came to us 24+ hours after birth. Her white blood cell count was only 1 and her blood glucose level was only 2! The odds were stacked against her. She received plasma, around the clock care, and many prayers were said for her.

Remi is our little long-ear miracle girl who didn’t give up and a perfect reminder of why we do what we do.

This is made possible by your kind and most generous support. You all make an incredible difference.

An Update on Jo

We brought Jo to the rescue in October, 2019. She was fighting infection – her kidneys and liver were stressed. She had blotches of skin without hair, no fat, and severe muscle atrophy. Jo was at least 300 pounds underweight – her immune system was weakened due to malnutrition and starvation. Her feet needed attention and her teeth were in such poor condition, it wasn’t possible for her to chew. And when she did try to chew, it was very painful for her.

Dr. Bess Darrow, our equine dentist, discovered ulcerations in Jo’s cheeks, gums, tongue, and soft palate, due to sharp points. One sharp point put the palatine artery at significant risk of being cut which could have caused Jo to bleed out. Jo’s front teeth were on a slant due to misalignment. This caused limited mobility of her jaw and physically obstructed the right/left and forward/back motion which a horse needs to properly chew. Jo was starving to death.

About two weeks after Jo arrived, we were able to bring her best friend, Dancer, to Beauty’s Haven. Dancer was also in poor condition but, together, they grew strong and healthy and have been doing well. Both are in their 30s. Jo does require multiple smaller meals a day due to her teeth.

A few days ago, Jo seemed a little off, but she was eating and didn’t have a temperature. It was a day after a pretty bad thunderstorm. Jo got back to normal over the next couple of days and was doing okay. We had another thunderstorm in the wee hours of the morning and a couple of hours later, we found Jo off again.

She reminded me somewhat of what Frodo and Victoria were like after they took indirect lightning strikes several years ago.

Dr. Julia came out to examine Jo on Friday morning although Jo did seem to be her old self at the time. We should have bloodwork results back today and I’ll update again once they are reviewed. Jo does need to have her teeth re-checked which will get taken care of next week.

Jo could use some good thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Orphan Newborn Donkey Needs Special Care

The vet has arrived and this sweet little one is a baby girl. Although she has a temperature, she did take a little milk. The plasma the vet had on her truck wasn’t guaranteed to be suitable for donkeys so another bag should be arriving at the farm any minute now. She did get some fluids and antibiotics have been started. We’ve haven’t lost a dummy foal yet and hopefully, this won’t be our first. I’m choosing to believe that this little girl is a fighter and will be just fine. I’ll update after the plasma is administered.

Sincerely,
Theresa

Hi Everyone!

The look on Domino’s face last evening when she learned the hay trailer was empty and there was only enough remaining to fill the hay bags for today, was priceless!

But do not despair, Domino, two wonderful ‘Aunties’ have joined forces and are offering a Match Game, whereby, all donations up to $500 will be matched dollar for dollar!

We hope to raise $710 for one large compressed bale of orchard/alfalfa mix plus one ton of orchard hay. Daddy Bob hopes to get to the hay store by early afternoon, so if anyone would like to help with this need, we would be forever grateful!

There are many ways in which to donate. You may forward your donation via various means here on our website, or via PayPalMe. If donating via PayPal, please designate your donation to ‘Hay Match Game.’ If you select the tab, ‘Send Money to Friends or Family,’ no fees will be deducted from your contribution. Thank you!

It’s been a bit stressful these last few days preparing for Hurricane Dorian. Jazzy made sure everyone had their ID collars and halters on and our phone number written on one of their hooves.

Fortunately, with its change of direction, Dorian didn’t have a direct impact on us. We did experience heavy rains, but that’s much better than being directly in Dorian’s path.

It was a huge relief, and blessing, to have been able to procure much needed propane, hay, grain, and medical and other supplies. We were running low on everything – especially propane and medical supplies. We lose power often due to the many storms that pass through – and there’s still a couple months left of the hurricane season. Any funds that were donated to help with hurricane needs, that have not been spent, will be put into an emergency account for the next time we need propane for the generators.

While we are very happy that the hurricane changed its course, we are very sad for those that have been impacted by Dorian. Our prayers go out to them.

We truly appreciate everyone’s support, very much. Our village is amazing – Thank you all!

JoJo here! I’m kinda sad today because Auntie Jeanne told me that we have received very few orders in our Giving Bean Fundraiser which would help all my friends and me here at Beauty‘s Haven.

Auntie Jeanne told me that she just received her order of Giving Bean Coffee and it tastes and smells so good because it is so fresh.

Giving Bean ships online coffee orders the same day they are roasted so your fresh roasts arrive at your door in only 1-3 days from roasting date. It remains ‘fresh,’ with proper care, and is fresher than 99.999% of coffee available on gourmet coffee shelves at fine grocers, and even in fine coffee shops. Freshness counts in coffee, just as it does with breads, fine pastries and so many other foods.

Giving Bean also offers a fine assortment of Teas, Cocoa, Biscotti and Shortbread, all of which make wonderful holiday gifts.

Please consider placing an order to help Beauty‘s Haven. Our rescue will receive twenty five percent of every order placed. Just click HERE to place your order!

Thank you all so very much! Mommy Theresa always tells me that it ‘Takes a Village’ and that our ‘Little Village’ is always there for us which truly makes my heart sing!

Gotta go now! Jazzy is waiting!

Have a good week!

Love,
JoJo

Hi Everyone!!

Did you know today is Friday and then there’s Saturday and Sunday! And that’s about how long our hay supply will last. I’d like to ask y’all to check under your seat cushions and round up any coins you find and consider donating it to a great cause – our tummies! No amount is too small because lots of little bits add up! We’d sure appreciate it.

I have to go now to make sure Lucy isn’t bored. We’re trying to figure out if there is a way we might be able to play jump rope. I’ve never tried it but I’d like to! Sending horsey hugs and kisses.

Love,
CaryLou

CaryLou has been quite the character from day one and has absolutely, no fear. He thinks he’s the biggest horse on the farm and I’m not going to tell him any differently!
