As many of you know, we recently lost Minnie, a mule that had worked her whole life for humans. But when she became unable to keep the pace, she was repaid by having her basic needs go neglected. She arrived skin-on-bones, her body had sores all over from burrs buried beneath her coat, and she was up there in age. Minnie loved her soupy mashes and was simply as sweet as could be. She was very grateful to have humans around her that were kind to her but her body had wasted away to almost nothing and her heart was tired. Sadly, we only had a couple of days with Minnie. But she went to Rainbow Bridge knowing she was loved.

We haven’t stopped thinking about Minnie, and in her honor, we would like to help two other mules that have also given their lives to helping humans.

We have funds remaining from donations that came in for Minnie to cover initial dental, vet, and farrier expenses for one but we need help covering the other. Also, they both need monthly sponsors to help with their ongoing care. We are sure that Minnie would be grateful if we are able to help them.

If anyone can help us to help these precious mules with any amount of a one-time, or monthly ongoing donation, please click the Donate Now button below and note it’s for “MULES”. No amount is too small and all donations are tax deductible.

Gratefully,
Theresa

I feel so badly posting each week stating that we need to make yet another hay run. Many of you are undoubtedly growing weary of these weekly requests as well, but the truth is our horses not only need to eat, they need to keep warm during these unusual periods of frigid temperatures here in Florida.

As many of you know, the cost of hay has risen significantly since last year creating much concern for equine rescues across the country who depend upon contributions in order to keep their beloved herds properly fed. Here in Florida, the price per ton of Orchard 3 String has risen to $779; the price per ton of Orchard 2 String has risen to $685; and the price per ton of Half Pasture bales of Alfalfa has risen to $638.

With our hay runs averaging approximately $1200 per week, we have decided to have one big fundraiser with the goal of raising enough funds to keep the hay trailer full through the month of March, when the grass will once again begin to grow.

We do realize that fundraisers for hay and farrier fees are certainly not as exciting as rescuing an equine or other precious being in need, but saving the animal is just one small part of the equation. Once that animal arrives at the rescue, the cost of their initial and ongoing care rises exponentially and hence, the reason why sponsorship is so imperative.

Our goal is to raise $10,800 which will greatly alleviate our stress knowing that the funding is there to cover our weekly hay runs.

If you are in a position to donate, you can do so here on our website or on *Facebook (just click on one of the buttons below). All donations are so greatly appreciated and no amount is ever too small. If you are unable to contribute at this time, you can still help by sharing our need amongst family and friends.

On behalf of everyone, both horses and humans alike, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,
Theresa

In Honor of Betty

Betty White, who sadly passed away on 31 December 2021 at the age of 99, was a friend and advocate to countless animals throughout her legendary life. Inspired by her legacy and lifelong devotion to creatures both great and small, Betty’s fans encouraged compassionate hearts across the country and throughout the world to honor her by contributing to an animal rescue organization of their choice on 17 January 2022, the day that would have been Betty’s 100th birthday. And once again this year, many organizations will uphold this wonderful tradition in celebration of this remarkable woman and her incessant love for animals, on 17 January 2023, the anniversary of her 101st birthday.

Beauty’s Haven Farm and Equine Rescue, Inc. is truly honored to commemorate the life of this amazing woman through our participation in the second annual Betty White Challenge. Please consider keeping the legacy and memory of the late, great Betty White alive with a donation in her honor by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button below. Please indicate that your contribution is “In Memory of Betty.”

May her radiant light forever shine.

Thank you all for your love and support.

Here we go again! The “feels like” temperatures are dropping below freezing, and coupled with the high winds, it becomes nearly unbearable to say the least. We need to get a load of coastal and some alfalfa hay ASAP which will cost about $925.

If you can pitch in, please click the “Donate” button below, or visit our Donations page for all options to contribute.

I know the horses would really appreciate it, digesting hay helps them stay warm!

Thank you and have a very Happy New Year!

Love,
Benjamin

“Did you know temperatures are dipping down really super cold for the next few nights?

Did you know Mommy Theresa is sick with something called Covid and she’s really worried about us staying warm? She’s been in isolation now since Tuesday and is anxious to get out.

Did you know that if we have hay it will help us stay warm? It’s not too late for us to make a run to the hay store by tomorrow.

Could anyone help us raise $2,005 for ten bales of orchard hay, one ton of alfalfa, two big half pasture bales as well as some coastal hay?

And guess what? Two of my very special aunties have joined together and will match all donations up to $1,150, so not only will you be helping me and my fiends here at Beauty’s Haven, you will double your donation as well!

We don’t even have to fill up the whole hay storage trailer – if we just get it half full, it will last us until Monday.

So, please help if you can. All donations are greatly appreciated and no amount is ever too small!

Have a very Merry Christmas!”

Love,
Jazzy

We brought Jo to Beauty’s Haven on the evening of October 20, 2019. Time was truly, of the essence, as we did not know how much longer she would have survived. At the time, we were unsure if Jo had hours, days, weeks, months, or hopefully, many years left on this earth, but we did know that she would get the very best of care in her sunset years.

Jo’s initial vetting and bloodwork were performed soon thereafter and revealed that her kidneys and liver were stressed and she was fighting infection. She had a heart murmur, severe muscle atrophy, and was at least 300 pounds underweight with a Body Condition Score of barely a 1. She had a poor coat, patches of rain rot, and she was treated for stomach ulcers.

During her first days at the rescue, Jo received a much-needed bath and spa treatment which she thoroughly enjoyed, and she even seemed to hold her head a bit higher afterward! Her sores were treated and her mane and tail were brushed.

Jo also received necessary farrier and dental care; Dr. Bess Darrow, our equine dentist, determined that many of Jo’s issues arose due to the condition of her teeth. Ulcers were discovered in Jo’s cheeks, gums, tongue, and soft palate due to sharp points.

One sharp tooth point put the palatine artery at significant risk of being cut which could have caused Jo to bleed out. There were large “ramps” and her front teeth were on a slant due to misalignment which physically obstructed the motion she needed to properly chew. Because Jo couldn’t chew, it decreased the ability of her digestive system to extract much needed nutrients from any food she did manage to get down. It also put her at risk for choke and colic. The day after Dr. Bess did Jo’s teeth, it felt wonderful knowing that she could finally use her mouth without the pain and discomfort that she had experienced for quite some time. Jo actually looked brighter and happier!

Jo, thankfully, overcame her most recent crisis, thanks to our amazing care team, coupled with the countless heartfelt prayers offered by our wonderful village of supporters. Jo is now able to graze, once again with Dancer, her very best friend, both experiencing the innate joy of ‘just being a horse.’

Jo’s wish this Christmas is for contributions toward her vet bill, coupled with her much needed supplement, Cosequin.

If anyone would like to contribute toward such, it would truly warm precious Jo’s heart! And, a very special ‘Auntie’ has offered to match all contributions up to $500 in order to help fulfill Jo’s Christmas wish! Just click on the ‘Donate’ button below and note your contribution to ‘Jo.’

Wishing you a Blessed Christmas.

Sincerely,
Theresa

It is so hard to believe that the end of the year is upon us! And, as always, every six weeks or so brings yet another round of hooficures. Since this is the holiday season, we thought perhaps our little village of supporters would like to help sponsor a hooficure for their favorite ‘Velvet Noser!’ The average cost per hooficure is $45.

So, if you would like to ensure that our beloved little herd has ‘Happy Feet‘ for the holidays, you may forward your contribution simply by clicking on the ‘DONATE‘ button below. Please designate your contribution for ‘Happy Feet for the Holidays,‘ or the name of the horse that you wish to sponsor.
