POST IRMA – GETTING BACK TO NORMAL

JoJo and Jazzy were so happy to get out of their stall after the storm..

Penny is a 31 year old blind Belgian mare. Emma is a young QH filly that was shot multiple times a few months ago. They were both very brave throughout the night as Irma passed through – I was so proud of them!

This video features Penny and Emma as they greeted us at daybreak during the eye of the storm.

Kitty Cat had fun with a photo shoot during Hurricane Irma.

My daughter made me do it! But it was a much needed ride – if only for a few minutes. Fancy is a great mare!

The minis will be arriving home tomorrow following their little ‘vacation’ in Tennessee. I simply cannot wait to welcome them home!

We are still assessing the storm damage and a detailed update will be forthcoming.

A LONG NIGHT WITH HURRICANE IRMA

We made it! All horses are accounted for. That was a really long night! We are truly exhausted but very thankful that the storm is over.

Precious little Grace – she’s now officially, a ‘Storm Cat.’

Poor Betsy Rose looks like the way I feel.

The horses that stayed at the concrete barn during the storm all returned home today.

Lucy and CaryLou were quite happy to see their Mommy Theresa!

The rain is never ending. The barn is flooded and the water keeps coming. Thankfully, the stalls are mostly dry. We still have to assess the damage and will keep you all updated.

HUNKERING DOWN

Just a quick update to let y’all know that we’re hunkered down. We are still securing stall windows – the old latches broke. Winds are picking up and we’ve lost power a couple of times.

JoJo isn’t happy that he’s grounded to a stall. Neither are Cloud and Nickers. But hopefully, this will soon be over without any issues or injuries. The winds drive my anxiety level off the chart.

Betsy Rose is doing well. She is much calmer than I thought she’d be.

Lucy, Ruby, and the others that went to a concrete block barn are hunkered down with Jenny.

We were so blessed this morning when a local family we’ve never met, came to help – the windows on the house did get boarded up. Thankfully.

I’ll check in later. I don’t know how the rest of Florida is doing, but I’m praying for all of us. Believe…

IRMA IS COMING – PLEASE KEEP US IN YOUR PRAYERS

The horses in Tennessee absolutely love the weather and are having a great time on “vacation.” We picked up two mini geldings today that were adopted out a few years ago – their human family is going to a local storm shelter as our county is under a mandatory evacuation. Some of you may remember the mini boys – Cloud Dancer and his dad, Nickers.

We will be hunkered down in our barn. Stalls will be full and there will be some horses out in the paddocks. When we built the barn, we included a good size A/C feed room with a fridge and a full bathroom. Fortunately, we have an automatic generator, so we should be okay.

We moved a few horses to another farm today that has a concrete block barn with huge stalls. A piece of my heart leaves every time another load of horses pulls out.

We still have some preparing to do and unless Irma shifts, the eye is headed right toward us. We normally have a bad internet connection and we expect it will get worse. I’ll try to keep in touch with Jeanne so she can keep you all updated.

To those who have donated – thank you. Supplies, stocking up on feed, gas, hay, propane for the generators and moving horses, etc., has been extremely costly. All of this has been exhausting – both physically and mentally but we’re going to make it through okay. Please keep everyone in Irma’s path in your prayers.

PREPARING FOR HURRICANE IRMA

We spent Wednesday beginning our preparations for Hurricane Irma. Many windows were boarded up, but we still have much to do.

On Thursday morning, a number of our horses left for Tennessee.

Last minute kisses.

Seeing the horses off was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do but there’s comfort in knowing that they will be okay.

It is Thursday evening and I just finished tucking in Betsy Rose for the night. She’s slurping away at her soupy mash which makes me smile. This precious girl always reminds me to believe. Against all odds – she survived.

We’re keeping a watchful eye on Little E – when there’s a change in barometric pressure, he tends to get a tummy ache. But what a blessing it is to have all of the horses, including the ones that went out-of-state today and have thankfully, safely arrived, are tucked in for the night.

Magic and the others that are still here are collared and tagged. We used markers to paint our information on their sides. We’re still boarding windows and preparing the barn which is where we will remain during the storm.

We are so truly grateful for all of your support – for your prayers, well wishes and most generous contributions. And to those of you in Irma’s path – stay safe and keep the faith. You’re all in my thoughts and prayers, as are your loved ones from near and far who will worry about you. We’re going to get through this. Believe…

GREAT NEWS FOR TWO LITTLE ONES!

The four mini’s that we recently returned to the rescue, Haley, Kami, Ouija, and Warrior, all got their dentals recently done by Dr. Bess Darrow of Tune-Ups. And we have some really great news – Kami and Haley may have an approved home!

Mini’s in the mist! The mist really feels great in the Florida heat. JoJo is always ready to help me give out hay.

We are so proud of Magic! We recently had a wonderful, fun-filled visit with Macy and Kathy Breakall.

Little E still looks great for his age!

I actually took a few minutes to take a ride a few days ago and it was awesome!

We apologize that we haven’t been able to get many updates out – we’re very short on volunteers and providing daily care for the horses has to be a priority. But we hope to get better at this soon!

I needed a “pick me up” this morning so I watched a video of Betsy Rose that I took yesterday when we were having storms.

Betsy Rose can make my heart smile just by being in her presence. She reminds me, often, that we can overcome. She’s a true blessing. Believe..

Sisco is doing well. He’d love to have his own home and human family for his sunset years. He makes a great pasture pal.

“Kitty Cat, have you seen Jazzy since he got a haircut? He looks like he’s lost a bazillion pounds! He even looks CLEAN!” Kitty Cat loves to talk to anyone – he’s the most social cat I’ve ever met. He likes to give high five’s too!

Many of you have asked about the little lamb, Noah. Thankfully, his leg continues to improve and he’s made new friends that simply adore him!

LUCY’S BELL, SILLY DONKEYS, & BEAUTY

October 18th…

Thanks to Bonnie, Lucy now has a bell that she wears so that Sawyer can better keep track of her. Sawyer is an elderly pony with greatly diminished vision. He often gets upset when he can’t find his BFF, Lucy. Thank you Bonnie!

October 21st…

Even in the early morning sunrise, JoJo and Jazzy play.

“Good morning, Mommy Theresa! Come on, let’s get the day going! It’s Friday you know. And lookie – me and Jazzy already put our fly masks on!”

October 22nd…

Beauty is always beautiful – even in her flymask.

Our first hay purchase of the fall season. Very glad it’s available but not happy with the extra expense.

A DAY WITH ANIMAL WARRIORS

September 10th, 2016

Members from Animal Warriors spent a good part of the day helping out – we got some projects done and some of the horses even got a bath! Animal Warriors is a group of like minded individuals from all walks of life who share a common goal of helping animals with active volunteer groups. All of the horses really enjoyed the extra attention.

Aaleyah Belle – there’s that famous tongue doing what it does best!

I think Aaleyah Belle slimed everyone!

Bouie and Frodo got a much needed bath.

JoJo opted to lead the group on a tour. He’s such a big little helper! He even kept his flymask on!

JoJo is always the little charmer!

Mishka got lots of attention – he’s a really big guy. His name suits him well – it means “teddy bear.”

Mishka also got a bath which he truly enjoyed!

Animal Warriors is a non-profit organization – they have a Facebook page and you can visit them on their website. We truly appreciate their help and hope that they come back again!
