Venus & Nadia

These two lovely Arabians still need sponsors to help with their ongoing care. They were adopted out a few years ago but had to return to the rescue a few weeks ago through no fault of their own. Nadia is 21 years young and is truly, a lovely mare. As you can see in this video, Venus, a 32 years young bay, is truly, “Poetry in Motion!”

We can’t do what we do without support from others. And providing proper care of a horse isn’t inexpensive. Please consider making a one time donation or a monthly recurring donation to help these beautiful girls. All donations are tax deductible and no amount is too small. Thank you.

Sophie went to keep another horse company for a few months but recently returned. She gets along with everyone and is so very easy to love. She is now looking for a forever home as a companion or trail horse.

Sophie has no sponsors to help with her care. Isn’t there anyone who would like to help with her needs by making a one time or recurring monthly tax deductible donation?

JoJo really does try to help as you can see by clicking here to view his latest ‘Public Service Announcement.’

Hooficures are scheduled for many horses next week. Would anyone like to help? We need to raise $575. Perhaps someone would like to offer a match game? Donations are tax deductible and can be made via various ways on our website at www.bhfer.org/donate. Our PayPal address is bhfer@earthlink.net. If you can help, please note that your donation is for ‘hooficures.’

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and thank you, all, for your continued love and support!

I was blessed to be able to spend some time with this awesome lady and dear friend of the rescue one day last week. We had all been looking forward to Linda Jenny’s visit! Beauty wasn’t in the best of moods, however, as the farrier was working on her feet while she’d rather have been out grazing with Jazzy.

We hope to see her again at our annual trail ride fundraiser next year, if not before.

Mishka always loves extra attention! It didn’t take long before Starbuck decided to play the “me first” game – he’s such a kid at heart.

Elyza Rose is doing great – she also loves all of the attention she can get. She’s a very sweet mare.

CaryLou greeted Linda, strutting with his “big man” attitude, while JoJo was hoping she’d take off his fly mask! lol

Peaches got some extra attention too – I thought she was going to fall asleep in Linda’s hands!

Betsy Rose Pink Olden

The horses were happy to get out of their blankets on Monday. We’re happy the temps are up a bit but it is predicted that the cold weather will be returning this weekend.

Aaleyah Belle and that tongue! All she wanted to do was slime me!

Cricket really seemed to appreciate her blanket last week during the cold temps and freezing rains.

CaryLou showing off and strutting his stuff in his Betsy Rose poinsettia bows.

We got Betsy a new pack of bows this year – they always looked so cute on her. Sadly, she never got to see them but I didn’t think she would mind if some of the others wore them on Christmas Day.

Cricket was giving me advice on how to unload the hay that weighs much more than I do!

Love it so much when the horses are very happy with their hay. Every horse in this photo is looking for a forever home.

JoJo is one of the most intuitive and caring donks I’ve ever known. This was taken a couple of days after Betsy Rose left us. He just wanted hugs.

I walked out of the feed room to move Beauty back to her paddock for the evening. I looked up to the sky and found a beautiful surprise.

Saving Grace

Baby Ray is home_322pxNovember 9th, 2017

Baby Ray is back from his foster home as Athena, his pasture mate, has been adopted! Baby Ray is now all grown up!  He came to us as a few months old orphan, skin on bones, after having been listed as “Free on Craigslist.” He was born blind due to congenital cataracts. The cataracts were removed at UF and he can now see, albeit he has no lenses and is unable to focus normally.

Little Grace just loves her new home! And her foster family has fallen in love with her – so much so that they are adopting her! Grace has been blessed with her own human family! And we were blessed to be able to help her when she needed us, thanks to the wonderful assistance and support from our village!

Magic is still stunning! Notice the two birds? They are never very far from him. Magic was a bit under the weather for a few days, but thankfully, he is now feeling better.

There must me something magical about the stairs to the office – I never know who I’m going to find there!

These little ones are doing so well. They’re steadily gaining weight and are very happy! Cricket never fails to greet you with a whinny!

We are very thankful to everyone who helped with their needs. They love attention and would make a wonderful addition to a family looking for little ones to love on. If anyone is interested in adopting Jiminy and Cricket,  please read our “Adoption Requirements” in the Notes section on our Beauty’s HavenAdoption Page prior to contacting us.

Golf Cart and Fibre Beet

JoJo Golf CartIt seems as if we are constantly asking for help and that isn’t easy for me. But we are a charity which operates solely from donations and grants and we must depend upon help from others in order to make a difference in the lives of our horses.

Our golf cart batteries have unfortunately, died – and we do properly maintain our tools and equipment. I must admit that it truly, was no fun getting towed back to the barn in the darkness of night! The estimated cost of the batteries is at least $900 (for all 6). We will be purchasing from a different source this time – the batteries that have failed only lasted about 2.5 years. We plan to purchase Trojans with a life expectancy of 6 to 10 years which will bring us much peace of mind.

Betsy Rose Birthday PlainWe are also in need of a pallet (50 bags) of Fibre-Beet from Emerald Valley. We are down to our last bag and are borrowing a bag from a friend until we can get our pallet. Buying it by the pallet, which usually lasts a year, is the most economical way in which to purchase Fibre-Beet (even with the cost of shipping). Betsy Rose, Little E and the other special needs horses that comprise our beloved little herd are fed this along with a ration balancer and needed supplements. Betsy Rose and E are fed five times a day (smaller portions) – they are hard keepers. Betsy Rose has Cushings and a history of choke so she has to be fed a soft diet. Little E has teeth, but they are so worn down, that he, too, must have a soft diet and when the weather is like it is now, he gets gas colic quite often unless he’s on Fibre-Beet. When we have colicky horses, this is a great way in which to keep them hydrated. Fibre-Beet is excellent for horses that have, or are at risk for, laminitis, ulcers, and Cushing’s. A bag retails for $41 but we get a good discount and while we do have some funds already set aside, we still need help as the estimated cost is $1100.

little-e-bio-photoWe were truly blessed to learn on Friday that two wonderful supporters have come forth to offer a most generous Match Game, whereby, all donations up to $1500 will be matched dollar for dollar to assist with the cost of the replacement batteries as well as a pallet of Fibre-Beet. If you would like to play the Match Game, you may do so via various means here on our website or via our PayPal address: bhfer@earthlink.net. If donating via PayPal, please designate your donation to, ‘Golf Cart/Feed Match Game.’ If you select the tab for ‘Friends or Family,’ no fees will be deducted from your contribution. Please be assured that all donations are greatly appreciated and no amount is ever considered as being too small.

On behalf of all the ‘Velvet Nosers’ at Beauty’s Haven, thank you so very much for your love and support!

May 4th, 2017

There’s a new bright shining star in the sky tonight. Penny has joined our heavenly herd. She was blessed with so many humans who loved her. All three of her mom’s were with her when she went to Rainbow Bridge – Penelope, Theresa, and Elizabeth. And her human big sister, Bri, was there too. Penny was surrounded by love. But our hearts are broken.

I came home and looked at some old photos. So many wonderful memories. Watching her as a baby and the five short years she had with us was a true blessing. I want to share some photos of her when she was a baby with her mom, Penelope. And one taken on a recent visit I had with her. She always made me smile.

Penny and Penelope

Penny wasn’t a very healthy baby when she came to us in 2012. But with TLC and proper care, she grew strong and came to be loved by so many.

Penny and Penelope II

Penny would imitate her mom – it was a wonderful experience watching her grow up.

Like Mother Like Daughter

Like mother, like daughter.

Penny has her wings now. I can’t help but to keep asking why did this happen? Why our little Penny? The dreaded disease she had (pemphigus foliaceus) I would never wish on any other. I’m so thankful that I got to tell her how much I loved her before she went to the Bridge tonight. I’m very thankful she’s no longer in pain. I’m very sad she’s gone – my heart is broken. I hugged on Penelope for awhile before heading back to the rescue – she was such a good mom. Whenever I see Penelope, I’ll still see our little Penny.

Fly with the angels sweet Penny – until we meet again. We love you, always.

Thanks to Bonnie, Lucy now has a bell that she wears so that Sawyer can better keep track of her. Sawyer is an elderly pony with greatly diminished vision.  He often gets upset when he can’t find his BFF, Lucy.  Thank you Bonnie!

September 21st…

JoJo was looking for anyone who would play ball today.

JoJo Ball

Many thanks to Judy for clipping Sawyer again – he feels so much better and he looks great! Judy is Timmie and Foxy’s adoptive mom. Judy has clipped Sawyer a couple of times this year – he gets pretty shaggy as he has cushings. We’re so blessed that he’s still with us – he had some bad seizures a few months ago and it wasn’t looking good. But he didn’t give up and he’s doing great!

September 24th…

Elizabeth and Bri surprised us and came out to spend the day! We had a great time – it’s always wonderful to see them.  Waylon really enjoyed some extra attention from Bri.

Waylon Bri

“Mommy Theresa it wasn’t me!  That big hole dug by the gate – that was Jazzy’s doing!  I told him not to do it but he wouldn’t listen.  I tried putting all the dirt back in the hole.  And then I rolled around and around to flatten it out so nobody would notice and so Jazzy wouldn’t get in trouble but there’s not enough dirt.  I don’t know where it went!”

JoJo's Wasn't Me

I wonder if JoJo realizes that he’s wearing the missing dirt?!

August 27th…
I never say good-bye when a member of our little herd gets adopted – it’s just a new chapter in their lives.  We love to see the smiles they bring to others! Daisy and Mocha are loved so very much.
I’m sure going to miss Daisy’s 6:00 am serenade outside our bedroom window each morning, however!
Kylie with the girls just before transporting them to their adoptive family.
Daisy never gave up in her battle with the tumors that invaded the areas around both of her eyes. And we never gave up on her. She’s had a great care team and she has overcome every obstacle that has crossed her path. We believe….
I promised Daisy and Mocha that they would always have each other and they will. Only now they’ll have a human family of their own as well.
I’ve asked their adoptive mom, Emily, to hug them and love them every day for me and she promises she will.
All aboard! The girls will soon be on their way! This is what we’ve prayed for – it’s bittersweet but this is what we do and Daisy and Mocha deserve this.
The BFFs have arrived at their new forever home! Our Beauty’s Haven family keeps getting bigger! We knew that the perfect home would come along. Good things come to those who wait.
Just love those smiles! And Daisy is just beaming with delight!
Mocha is just loving it!
A family of their own – it’s what they all deserve.

I’d say everyone is happy!

Many thanks to everyone that supported our helping Daisy and Mocha.  It’s only because of your support that we are able to do what we do.
